River Rat's Canoe Rental - The Duck River (w/Sam)

Met my buddy Sam from Nashville in Columbia, #tennessee , for a 5-mile #canoe trip on the Duck River via River Rat's Canoe Rental. I've been using River Rat's for years and always enjoy their trip. We had some rain hovering around, but made it fine. Also, it was a pleasure meeting Todd who had just recently discovered my channel. Thanks, Todd!! #canoeing

Dan, I’m considering getting a canoe. I see you switch back n forth between canoe n kayak. How do you go about deciding a canoe vs a kayak day? Do you prefer one over the other?

Hey Wes- I probably lean towards the canoe as my favorite boat to paddle, but the decision on which to use depends on several factors. My canoe is 16ft long and requires a bed extender and his heavier, so it's more effort to transport and only works if I can drop it very close to the water. It's great for camping or trips where I need space to carry gear. My 11.5ft sit on top Jackson Riviera is my go-to for summer paddling and small rapids because it's open, easy to maneuver and very responsive. My 12.5 sit inside Old Town Loon 126 is my winter boat because it protects me from wind & waves. It can also be used for camping trips as it has decent storage space and it's the best boat for long distances (if time is a factor) because of it's speed and tracking.

@@SouthernPaddler The 11 Points is there too but I have not floated it yet. The Black River and upper St. Francis rivers are good floats in Southern MO. as well.
