"Rough fish" are cool fish. Gars are a blast (try a fly rod sight fishing in summer) and bowfins are explosive lure mangling lunatics. It's great to have a wife who likes to fish. My wife loves to fish and I enjoy fishing less when she can't go with me.

The only rough fish I'm averse to is the shortnose gar. They bring a pretty lackluster fight. The longnose are a completely different critter, tough as nails. The bowfin fight as hard, or harder than a hybrid striper in my opinion. Glad you have a wife that loves being on the water man. She must be a special lady.

I feel your pain😮 bro!
