Vocally, this isn't the most egregious thing Riverdale has done. If you look at it from the context of _really_ knowing the story of Hedwig though, this episode is a disaster.

I absolutely agree. It’s just a bastardisation of Hedwig. Especially when Kevin tries to reduce the theme to being *different* and *not fitting in*. Like no... it’s about someone who feels divided about their gender which coincided with the division in their country at the time due to the conflict between East and West Germany, and their inner turmoil only gets worse when they tried to have a sex change and it’s botched. How does ANY of that relate to high schoolers in Riverdale?!

I feel awful for the guy because he was just doing his job 😂 Like, I _love_ Hedwig to death, but I have _no_ desire to see _any_ high schooler try to tackle the songs of this show! Don't get me wrong; It's a beautiful show with a beautiful message about finding self-love in the midst of a horrific tragedy, but it is _also_ a highly sexually-charged show littered with a ton of casually crude humor.

Exquisite Corpse literally made me gasp... the fact that it's part of Hedwig's final breakdown moment as she's forced to confront the trauma she's been bottling up the entire show and rages over her gender dysphoria and her (in her eyes) destroyed body... and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and co. were like "this would make a great metaphor for the manufactured relationship drama the teenagers have for 10 minutes"

And yes that was really Cole Sprouts singing. All of the voices are true to the characters. Of course they record everything in a studio first and then act to the soundtrack. It’s the same with Julie and The Phantoms, they recorded first and then acted out to the recordings.

Fun fact, in JATP all the songs were played live, and then mixed with the recordings. You can hear obvious differences between the soundtrack and the episodes. Any pitch corrections were done through the soundtrack, but everything was filmed live. Bit like Les Mis, it’s super cool how television is mixing in live music rather than just obvious lip syncing.

So in the last performance, yes he is the best! I had the same reaction as you! In this episode, the principal Mr. Honey would not allow Kevin to do the performance “Hadwig” in the show the school was putting on. So Kevin decided to do this. In real life, Casey Cott is straight (I believe all of the actors and actresses are) which makes this performance even better because he laid it all out there. I was very impressed!
