Hello! Thanks for watching! When you say "nx grand action" are you talking about the N1X, N2 and N3X actions? If so, I'm not expecting any news at NAMM2025. Clavinova used to have an NWX key action, but that has been replaced with the new GrandTouch and GrandTouch-S actions... so I don't expect that to be back. Hope that helps!

It was easy for us to remove it while filming this video. That said, I wouldn't recommend removing it. You'd lose access to the music rest, your fallboard and two of the piano's speakers.

Not here. Since we don't recommend doing it yourself, we don't want to explain how to do it here. If you contact your local Yamaha dealer, however, they can tell you how to do it.

Any idea why the Kawai NV5S is about almost double the price? Here in Canada, the NV5S retails for about CAD $12500, while the NU1XA is about CAD $6800. Crazy!

NO! ...and I recently played the NV5S. It did NOT feel good! Of course, this is just an opinion, but I thought it played like mud - VERY slow and unresponsive. So weird.

The sound chip and touch are similar. ...but the new speaker system is much nicer and having Bluetooth built-in is a game changer. If those features mean alot to you, you should definitely look into the NU1XA! Thanks for stopping by!

Yep! When the NU1 first came out, they called it the "NU1" because it incorporated the U1 key action. The "X" came about after a redesign and the "A" came after the most recent redesign (where they added magnetic induction sensors).

We haven't heard anything definitive yet, but we'd expect something to happen within the next year. We list the pro's of the new design in the video: higher resolution sensing data, fewer fail points and almost no maintenance.

The "soundboard" feature on the NV5S is just a gimmick. It's just a big speaker with a transducer. There is no acoustic benefit because it doesn't have strings, it's not full-sized and it doesn't have any acoustic characteristics. The transducers attached transmit vibrations to the wood in the same way the transducers in a speaker send vibrations to the speaker cone/core. Kawai's "soundboard" is just a flashy way to do the same thing.

My hobby is to build speaker systems for digital pianos, including "soundboard" speaker systems with large sheets of plywood and transducers (spruce is more resonant but too expensive for experiments). In the case of the Kawai CA901 and NV5S, the wooden membrane on the back (referred as a "soundboard") produces mainly low frequency notes (I have placed my ear near the wooden surface on the CA99). The actual sound we recognize as a piano sound comes from the top speakers. Large plywood soundboards produce a lot of bass for a piano as well as a good piano tone (if you use full range transducers with a full range signal), but the sound is not better than what you can accomplish with speakers. That is why Kawai is complementing the "soundboard" sound with several additional speakers on top. Furthermore, the best sounding speaker system from Kawai was probably the CP1 (Concert Performer digital baby grand) and that one used 9 speakers, not a "soundboard".
