You actually had the hole correctly sized the first time. I use these on steel doors when hanging life safety devices, and the ridges on the threaded rivet (threadsert) make it easy to pound in with a hammer while maintaining its ability to grip the metal and resist spinning, thus negating the need for the nut driver on the other side. If you drill the hole too large, you won't be able to tighten the threadsert and make it grip without specialty tools. They are probably one of the most underrated and least used tools because it takes time to install them properly, so people don't use them. However, when you strip out a sheet metal screw because you install it too aggressively with a power tool, and you only uave 2 of the 4 required screws to hold it on, you might want to use these to fix the issue. Yes it does I buy them in QTY on Amazon so no sharpening just replace them
