It would be interesting to test the tent on the roof rather than over the bed. You drive enough miles to get a good read on efficiency losses, wind noise, ease of use, etc.... I get its not ideal, but for the occasions that the bed needs to carry something larger it would be good to know.

I just finished installing my Skycamp Mini 3 on my RIVIAN R1T and you don’t need to install it on the ground to be able to tighten the inside clamps. All you need is to feed the clamps with the bolts pointing the back of the truck and then reach from the tailgate and tighten the bolts with the long tool.

Great video. Wanted to note the pins that came with your Maxtrax mount is made for the Extreme version of their boards. You have the MK2 boards which are thinner and that’s why you’ll notice they can move when the pins are rotated. You should be able to buy the correct pins from their site.

Great video as always. A few quick comments…1. I use bungies on the cab-side window awning to attach it to the most forward crossbar to open up that window and make the awning funcitonal. 2. If you turn the cab-side crossbar iKamper mounts 180º, you can use the included tool to tighten the mount on the crossbar from the tailgate without having to remove the crossbars from the truck.

Great video again! Your goals and my goals are exactly the same. I'm trying rig out my R1T for overlanding and extended camping trips. We use to do 2-3 day camp trips in my Tesla Model 3, if you believe it. Now that we have the truck, we can go so much further. Love your setup, you'll have to keep us updated on your thoughts of that Skycamp Mini 3! I have so many standard tents I can't, yet, justify pulling the trigger on a truck bed tent, unless it's truly amazing. Keep up the awesome work on the vids!

Great video! Do you know if you would be able to run the Rivian through an automated car wash with the iKamper mounted on the back like you have?

Personally I wouldn’t risk it - it’s weather safe in rain and snow so maybe a touch-free automated car wash could work but not worth the risk to me of something getting damaged. I normally just hand wash or use a self service car wash 👍🏻

Looks great! is it easy to grab stuffs from Rivian truck bed? since it's blocked by iKamper. Do you have to remove iKamper every time you want to grab something?

It can be a little difficult if something is all the way in the front of the bed but hasn’t been a huge issue for me👍🏻

So far I’ve been fine without them but it’s definitely on my list of future upgrades. Unless you are doing some serious rock crawling they aren’t really necessary. I would prefer to have a simple rock slider and not a rock slider/step combo which is all thats available from the aftermarket currently. Hoping for more options soon!

Have you noticed the vampire drain associated with the Rivian during your camping trips?

When I first got my truck yes I did notice some overnight drain (~5miles of range) but with recent software updates and the ability to turn off screens and other accessories in camp mode its much better 👍🏻

I know you installed it with the crossbar removed from the truck, but do you think it’s still possible to install it with the crossbars on the Rivian? Also, do you think the size of mini for sky camp mini or x cover mini can fit 2 adults + 2 young kids? Thanks for sharing.

I think it’s probably possible with the crossbar on the truck but would be tricky to get the tool in there. Both of the Mini series tents are probably going to be too small for 2 adults and 2 kids. You would need to opt for the X Cover 2.0 or Skycamp 2.0 which are going to overhang off the rear of the truckbed a bit.

I was just day dreaming about having one of these cars. I think i would either design and build some kind of fold up house that I could mount on the back, or just pack a big bell tent. what might be a cool idea is an inflatable structure, like inflatable structural beams with canvas or tent materials as walls and with windows that you could inflate with the onboard air compressor. You could park up, open the truck bed with one button, and then press another and watch a big structure kind of grow into place on the back. Wouldn't be very wind proof but having a few choice poles added and you could make a pretty spacious thing if you designed it well. Could be a fun project. I think I'd extend it over the roof of the cab for the bed and have a living room bit further back.

I actually ran some tests the aero is the same facing forwards or backwards (there’s a video on my channel) I actually prefer the look mounted how I have it and also having it open driver side👍🏻

There is no effect because the RTT is lower than the cab roof. If for some reason you raised the RTT(if Rivian adds lifts to make it level or higher than the cab), you'd definitely want the RTT facing downward slope to the tailgate as the video author has it...makes a huge aero difference.

Yeah that would be cool! I get 300+ miles with a charge which has been plenty to get to me out for multi day trips - definitely some really remote places I can’t access yet but so far I haven’t had any issues with running out of battery👍🏻

Looking forward to further developments of EV trucks with better battery packs. The issue now is that most our trips are 5-7 days off the grid covering over 500+ miles so there is no way an EV can handle that at the moment. We will have to stick to our Tacoma for the time being. It would be pretty cool to have our appliances and possibly air conditioning powdered off the truck's battery with EVs.

This is obvious at 12:15 when you review the bed and compare it to 2.0 but you quote company material comparing it to 2.0 and not YOUR experience. Is this a product AD?
