Rizza Islam and Marc Lamont Hill Debate Dylann Roof and the Death Penalty

A week ago, the fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals voted in favor of upholding the death sentence for Dylann Roof.
He is responsible for the 2015 Charleston Church shooting in South Carolina where he murdered nine Black congregants in cold blood. Marc Lamont Hill shared his unpopular opinion that he’s against Roof getting the death penalty. He got a lot of backlash on social media for his take.
Rizza Islam, a researcher, international activist and a member of the Nation of Islam, joins Hill on “Black News Tonight” to debate if Roof deserved the death penalty.

Note how this guy makes it sound like the death penalty wasn't already disproportionally used against Black prisoners to begin with. And unless the pro-death penalty people are willing to live with the acceptance of countless innocent people being put to death (some of whom innocence was proven only after execution), then there is no doubt the death penalty should be abolished. Y'all really act like a 21 yr old possibly living in prison for another 60 yrs is a cake walk. If DR was given 9 life sentences, I guarantee that as the years wear on, his smugness', non-repentance would start to waver. I hear both arguments. Marc is more idealistic. Rizza is more realistic. The only rational argument in this case for him not to get the death penalty, is that the punishment is not severe enough. Meaning death helps him escape long term consequences. It gives him an out. To suffer in jail for a lifetime, and force him to recompensate the families through labor or something, would give more back to the families and societies he attempted to destroy.

It's quite simple, if the death penalty is off the legal books, innocent people won't be executed by the state. If 1 innocent person is saved from this this, sparing the "dylan roofs" to life sentences is absolutely worth it. Rizza is obviously speaking from his emotionalism, & I get it.
