Every exols agree (if not all) that most of EXO songs are best when sing live than to hear it in studio version. "Wolf" was EXO's first comeback since their debut promotions and it came out in May 2013 as part of their XOXO album. "Wolf" was another one of EXO's songs that the mainstream public thought SM was making an even bigger mistake with. It was a song and concept that was too unique for most mainstream listeners when it first came out, and most people didn't really like the song or the MV. However, as many have discovered, it's one of those songs that once you listen to it more, it grows on you, and now it has become much more popular. So what you see in their "Wolf" MV is that all 12 members come together to form the Tree of Life and in the middle of the song you see how they split up into EXO-K and EXO-M and each group creates their own tree. How I interpenetrate that is they are showing how the tree has now been split in half and each half of the tree represents the two halves of EXO. In the intro to "Mama" they talk about how the Tree of Life has been split in two and each half has been hidden away. It's EXO's job to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace in the world. Kai's hair is not really that long. It's hair extensions. It was part of the bad boy wolf/hip-hop theme of this song. (Just like the hair extensions Key wore in SHINee's "Everybody" MV.) Yes, everything on that set says EXO because as a wolf pack, they are supposed to be inside EXO's cave or the pack's den, etc. (Which some theories have pointed to, could be connected to SuperM's "Tiger Inside" MV.) When EXO had 12 members they were both involved in both versions of their MVs. However, the EXO-K members were featured more prominently in the EXO-K versions and they were the ones that sang the main parts of the songs, but if you watch the EXO-M version you will see that the EXO-M members are the ones highlighted in the MV and EXO-M sings the main parts of the song. That is why you need to watch both versions. EXO's slogan is "We are One" which means they are one as a group and one with their fans, so even when they had separate sub-units they were meant to be one group. You should also check out the EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) version of their "Wolf" MV to see what the song sounds like in Mandarin and to discover how the MV is slightly different. In "Wolf" the members are part of a wolf pack. So the entire MV and the song is them acting like wolves. The choreography was created to use movements that made them seem like wolves, and the moves, such as them showing their claws and bristling their backs and shaking are all things that wolves do as they compete for power and attention, etc.The wolf comes out of the forest (as he scratches the ground behind the Tree of Life) in the beginning of the MV and he is stalking his prey. Their prey is the girl that, in the song, they are talking about being so obsessed with and in love with that they can't help but act like a wolf and capture her so that no one else can have her, etc. I'm not sure how this concept was supposed to fit into EXO's larger storyline, but many feel that after the 3 Chinese members -- Kris, Luhan and Tao -- left the group that the wolf part of the story was completely dropped and it is no longer part of EXO's story. So we just watch it as a fun side story now instead. In EXO's songs and MVs it is often thought that the girl that EXO sings about is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life. So, that is why EXO becomes so enamored by her and so possessive and protective of her, etc. Protecting the heart of the Tree of Life -- or "the girl" -- is what EXO has been sent to Earth to do. If you look up the lyrics of the song you will see that the lyrics are also about being a wolf. The main point of the song is they are saying, I'm a wolf, I'm a wolf and I love you so fiercely that I am going to capture you and possess you and devour you like the wolf that I am. "Wolf" and "Growl" are partner songs. "Growl" was the follow up song to "Wolf. ""Growl" was the lead track on the XOXO repackaged album which came out in August 2013. So, now you should check out EXO's "Growl"/"Wolf" Drama video. The drama version combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters. It also might help to explain more of the story in their "Wolf" MV, however, as I said, I'm not sure the story goes any further than being mostly just a fun side story now. in EXO's history of MVs. Fun fact: Kris' eyes turning red will make more sense once you watch the drama version I mentioned above. On top of being aliens -- Kris and Luhan in particular, and maybe Lay -- they also are wolves. Just watch the drama to see what I mean. The concert version of "Wolf" is the remix version, so only the beginning and end of this performance is what you see in the MV -- the middle part, where it slows down, is new, but the hype part at the beginning and end is exactly how the original song sounds. Often, the performance and choreography for their songs in concert is different than the original because they put a different twist on it every time they perform it. And yes, the moving siluet you saw them create in their "Wolf" performance is supposed to represent the Tree of Life. Which is a visual connection between the story in "Mama" and the story in "Wolf". In the MV for "Wolf" you saw they created two separate trees (or one tree that is split in two) because the MV is when they still have 12 members. EXO-K was one half of the tree and EXO-M was the other half. However, as you saw in the concert performance, they don't split up into the two separate trees any more because now there are only 9 members. After the 3 Chinese members left, they now do everything together, so there is only one tree. This concert was in 2016 and Kris, Luhan and Tao left in 2014/2015. What Baekhyun yells in the middle of the performance is "Tokyo Dome" in English because this concert is at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, so he was hyping the crowd. Baekhyun is known for being loud, so he is usually the one that screams things to the crowd. How I interpret the part where Kai Xs out the tree, is that EXO are searching for the Tree of Life and Kai has eliminated that tree from their search. It's not the tree they want, so they get rid of it. In the intro to "Mama" they talk about how the Tree of Life has been split in two and each half has been hidden away. It's EXO's job to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace in the world. So in their live performance, that is what they are doing. They are searching for the real Tree of Life. Just imagine, that was only one song from a 3 or 4 song set in a more than 3 hour concert where they performed 20 to 30 songs. (They also performed "Mama" and "Monster" back to back right before this song without a break.) So, if you think that performance was amazing, keep in mind, after this they only took about a 5 minute break to get ready for the next set of songs and change outfits, etc.

Thanks RJ, that was so much fun! I HATED Wolf when it first came out...HAAATED IT! But it's one of their signature songs...and now I LOVE IT...go figure..even with the Exordium Tour, which I believe lasted about 6-8 months, in 2016-2017...they covered all of Asia and China, some of South America, Europe, Dubai, Mexico, Canada and the States...people were hard pressed to get tickets, pretty much impossible. People were flying from different countries to attend some concerts...making it a one day trip, or a weekend stay, posting vlogs...if they even got a ticket. Tickets ran from $150-$400...scalpers made more...bots were used constant to get a foot in...and they sold out in seconds. And mind you, depending on the venue, and how many shows were planned for whichever country, there were still countries begging for them to visit. Stadiums like the TokyoDome packed between 45,000-60,000 seats, yet sold out 3 nights there in seconds. But Exo are seasoned performers, and have quite the staff, and teams, that put on a 3-hour show, and from the production of a great show, with the logistics and hundreds of workers used, it costs millions...but well worth the outcome. But it all stems from hit songs, hit albums, and of course, vocals.💙🌺 p.s. it's crazy..I wouldn't trade my job for that kind of life...just saying.😊

EXO's "History" MV is supposed to be an introduction for EXO and it was meant to begin to establish their storyline and concept as a group. Exo, as in exoskeleton, means "outer," so as a member of EXO they are outside the ordinary.The group's concept comes from the real term exoplanet, which is a term that is used for a planet that is outside our solar system, so their name was chosen to represent the fact that they are stars that are "out of this world" when it comes to their talents. SM Entertainment has all of EXO's release dates and concepts planned out for years in advance, and it's all designed to connect as part of SM's Universe. So to understand their "History" MV, here is what you need to know: As aliens from Planet Exo, the members are about to be sent to Earth on a mission. "History" is thought to be about how EXO are still on Planet Exo and they are preparing to be sent to Earth. So that is why it has a very futuristic look and feel to it. There isn't a whole lot of story because it is a pre-debut MV so this was meant to just introduce the members and establish their concept. "History" is EXO's second pre-debut track. It was released in 2012 -- about 2 months after their first pre-debut song and MV "What is Love," and about 2 months before "Mama," which is EXO's official debut -- so this is more than 9 years ago. "History" is the introduction of the storyline and it explains what led up to the events in "Mama." In the EXO-K version of "History" you only saw the EXO-K (Korean) members -- Kai, D.O, Suho, Sehun, Baekhyun and Chanyeol -- singing, and in the middle of the song you see them flash to the EXO-M (Chinese) members -- Lay, Kris, Chen, Luhan, Xiumin and Tao -- however, if you watch the EXO-M version you will see that the EXO-M members are the main characters in the story and they only show the EXO-K members briefly. This establishes how the two groups are separate and yet still are all part of one group as EXO. Both versions of their MVs may look the same on the surface, but the story is slightly different because it is being told from a different angle or different perspective in each version. Fun fact: if you compare the English translation of the Korean and Mandarin lyrics, you will see that the songs are slightly different. Because, as the intro to "Mama" points out, the two halves of EXO stand on the same ground and see different things and they stand on different grounds and see the same thing -- they are separate groups and yet they become one, etc. Hence, their songs and story are the same and yet different. To understand the story in their "History" MV this is one time where it is helpful to look up the English translation of the lyrics. The song is called "History" and in the lyrics they talk about making history. It's about failing at something and trying again to make it right. So, the theory is that in this part of the story EXO made some sort of unknown "big mistake" on their planet, so they have been sent to Earth to try and right their wrongs by trying to prevent the Red Force from causing a "big mistake" or prevent humanity from allowing a "big mistake" to happen on Earth. They are trying to prevent "History" from repeating itself. And they want to make "History" here on Earth. It establishes the whole reason why EXO are fighting against the Red Force and why they need to find the Tree of Life and restore peace. They can't let whatever happened on their planet happen again on Earth, etc. The part of the dance where they put their hands in their pockets and shake their pants, I interpret as the nervousness and uncertainty that they are feeling as they are about to embark on this new journey as they prepare to go to Earth and also as a representation of the nerves and excitement they are feeling as they are about to debut. As you can see, even the choreography is designed to tell the story. However, just so you know, we didn't fully understand that was what the MV and song was trying to tell us, until several years later, after we had more context to go on after we had several other MV stories and more information. But that is why we say, if you want to try and follow EXO's story you have to pay attention to everything and you have to remember as much detail as you can about everything you have ever seen and heard from EXO. Because although you might think you understand one piece of EXO's story, with every new release from EXO, we get a little more information, and, sometimes it helps to confirm what we thought to be true and sometimes it turns the whole theory on its head and makes us realize what was happening wasn't what we thought after all. What complicates this even more is the fact that almost nothing in their storyline is in chronological order, so we EXO-Ls (EXO fans) have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of everything any of the members are involved in to try and piece it all together and figure out where each part fits within their larger storyline. And I literally mean everything, from their teaser videos, to their MVs, to their song lyrics and live performances, concert VCRs (videos played in between sets at their concerts) and even some of their choreography, as well as their sub-unit and solo work. Everything EXO does is connected. And now that story has branched out even further to include all of SM Entertainment's groups and artists storylines. Everything that SM Entertainment produces is all part of one giant story, like a giant graphic novel or mystery movie series, and it's all connected to the SM universe storyline, that all started with EXO in 2012. Each new MV or project is another chapter in the story, and it's up to us fans to figure out where it all fits in the larger storyline. To see their dancing better, if you haven't already, check out the dance practice for "History," the choreography is very unique. They have an EXO-K dance practice and an EXO-M dance practice. And it's one of their few choreographies where the two groups are not combined because they were completely separate groups in this MV.

Haha no worries. most people say that they like the last half of Wolf. I used to hate the song but it has haunted me whenever my music is on shuffle. Plus my roommate likes to blast it every now and then. It grew on me and now after hearing it so many times and kind of musically evaluating it, I can now see the musical genius behind it. Their lives are amazing. I can't wait for you to see Overdose. I don't know if you take requests on here or only on Patreon, but my request is to watch their full live performance from MAMA 2014. I enjoyed the studio version of Wolf much more after watching the live remix, but I love listening to the live version the most. I buy ALL of their live albums...they are totally worth it! The remixed version of Growl that they did for 2018 (they also performed it at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics...it was f%$#ing EPIC, you MUST watch that performance. The harder hitting instrumentation and the more grown-up way they sing the song AND dance the choreo, it's all just chef's kiss. This group has an energy, charisma, and yes, SKILLS to draw in anyone with their live performances and make them never want to leave. And Exo concerts are amazing that's why it took only 0.2 seconds for their tickets to sold-out. It's still part of my bucket list to attend an Exo concert.
