Do i have to release the lockout before removing the lowers? Tia
@stephenhealey70742 жыл бұрын
You missed something. Service should include taking out the seals so you can also pull the plastic sleeve bearings. Seals slide out with encouragement from a flat blade screwdriver. Then reach down inside the lower and work out the sleeve bearing- one per side. The sleeve bearing is what actually contacts the stanchion. It MUST be cleaned and relubed. just dabbing grease down in there with a stick is not enough. Clean the seals too. As an annual service you should clean and lube seals and sleeve bearing, clean stanchion, but don't bother with all other stuff. The spring doesn't care if it has fresh grease on it. The way these forks fail is wear or corrosion of the stanchion, and that is controlled by seal and sleeve bearing. In your 2014 video servicing a Suntour T890 fork, you did get the sleeve bearings out and cleaned. The sleeve bearings are a very similar design to what I found in my ~2013 XCR 29er.

Good video, very straight forward and informative. @@RJTheBikeGuy Actually, it's impossible to get anything useful about this Fork. Either this system is too old or too rare on the market. What I found was a low res image of spare parts. So, after unscrew both top pipes from the springs, remove both screws at the bottom of the fork, and you need a longer imbus to fixed bottom beds and unscrew each spring from the bed. That's all. -------- Oh, and advice. The paper, which covers both springs inside the pipes, it's not plastic. It's called calibrated paper - in my case it was brown and it is widely used in the graphic industry, under the offset rubber printing blankets... Brown color has a thickness of 0.15 mm and it's very strong and robust paper. You can buy this paper in sheets in any shop with offset print materials. Before usage soaks it in oil. If you buy that paper in the graphic store, ask also for Varn VWM-111 cleaner. You will be amazed at how effective it is. I’m going to do this to my xcr fork. Mine has been leaking though. Do you think this will fix it? I have heard people mention fork seals but I didn’t notice any in the video. Do you know what they might be referring to?

Can petroleum jelly can be used instead of slickleum grease?
@RJTheBikeGuy4 жыл бұрын
That was covered in the video.
@joepje03183 жыл бұрын
i used vasaline to it realy doesnt matter that much. if it its grease its grease.
@avtechnz3 жыл бұрын
Petroleum Jelly is an oil based product so would not be a good idea as it might break down the plastic parts. Don't use any mineral oil based grease. If you use a synthetic grease (other than Slickoleum) make sure its safe with plastic parts.

If you take the fork apart, isnt it a good idea to also replace the fork seals too??
@RJTheBikeGuy3 жыл бұрын
If they are bad. Not part of regular service.
@juanantoniocruz29373 жыл бұрын
@@RJTheBikeGuy i guess i just dont do a regular service that regularly that my fork seals go bad before i even touch the internals of the shock, hahaha welp
