I was working on a track with a friend recently, and at some point he asked me why I kept fiddling about with "that calculator thing". He hadn't realised that I have switched from sequencing with the Roland W-30 that I've used for years to the RK8, and the "calculator" is actually my sequencer.

If only there were some way to insert/lift out sections of time on individual tracks, we'd be able to combine all these tricks into a full-fledged three-point editing system.

Not sure how a three point system would look, but to take parts of tracks to another one track/part is possible but with a bunch of steps: copy part, shorten begin and/or end of that part with part length to take out the section you need and then shift/merge it back together with a part you need that section on.

Really want to like this unit but boy I find it hard to get it to work. Getting midi in using the supplied cables seems limited to Novation keyboards. My original Arturia Keystep 37 is a no go. If I arm the track I’m not getting metering. Checked midi channel definitely sending out on channel 1. I also tried my Korg nano key Studio with Bluetooth set on RK008 to on “peripheral” again keying on channel 1 still no connection when armed and keying. 3 times now I had the RK 008 out the box spent a hour trying to get it to work and given up in frustration as just can’t seem to get started. Considering selling as it’s a paperweight at present. For the price this thing is would expect a smoother ride. Currently running the latest firmware managed to update it at least. Would love to get it to work I’m pretty good at midi usually but this one foxed me.

Sorry you have problems with it, the provided cables are TRS-A to DIN5 MIDI standard, arturia TRS connections have the TRS-B ones (e.g. beatstep) which need the TRSA-B adapter dongle or something similar (TRS-X with a stereo audio cable also works) once you’ve got this aligned it should be working. If you don’t get a midi echo or indication on the display it can also be you have the ‘ROUTE’ disabled. To get the nanokontrol BT working, just set the RK008 Bluetooth mode to ‘party’, put it to sleep, switch the nanokontrol on in BT mode and wake the RK008, the antenna icon will blink on the RK008 and pairing between the two should start. Also, do check the nanokontrol settings and it’s manual, Korg has done some updates on the BT modes to enhance the nanokontrol connectivity.

@@RetrokitsDev Cheers for the info the 5 pin din cable supplied is going straight into the Arturia Keystep 37 5 pin midi ding socket. I’m not using Arturia TRS cables, is all Arturia hardware B standard aswell ie the actual 5 pin din female midi socket ? Is there any way the RK 008 can show or name available Bluetooth devices in a list via its software on screen as at present as it seems hit or miss to show what’s connected? Anyway our keep trying. As a side note on my iPad the RK 008 is listed as a available device under the CME WIDI app which I use for the Bluetooth dongles I brought from CME, however under the native Apple settings app under Bluetooth the RK 008 is not recognised. Probably something to do with host or peripheral.

@@MeerkatMuzic yes it you want to use it on iOS it’s more convenient to use it as a pheriperal (bt menu to ‘on’, not ‘party’) if the other side is din5 then it should work, maybe the rk008 route mode is not engaged then (or a faulty cable somehow)

Did you experience problems updating firmware? Mine won't be recognized by the computer with the right drivers and settings. How did you manage?
