Bait fishing near the wall at Waranga Basin

After my recent success at the lake, I headed back in search of some more redfin to take home for dinner. This time I headed up to another spot I'd never fished before, right up near the wall. A hot bite on the Jan Juc worms kept me very busy, but unfortunately the majority of the fish were very small, partly due to the fact that my reels were both very short on line which limited my casting distance.

As you were only fishing 1 rod Rohan you should have tied a leader knot and run the line from your other rod onto the one.You may have been able to cast out too some bigger ones.Looks like you have fun.

That's a great suggestion, I wish I thought of that on the day haha! Oh well, both rods have been spooled with brand new line now, I'll have to go back and try again. I definitely had loads of fun, cheers mate.

I’ve been flicking yabbie soft plastics off the wall lately and have been catching some monster reddies got one that was about 3lb with missis and just have a bait rod with a worm for the little ones to keep yourself entertained.

Wow nice they sounds like great fish! I wasn't sure how close I was allowed to get to the actual wall, the signs said no swimming and then underneath said no people access beyond this point so I wasn't sure if that meant swimming or just straight up no access at all haha. Thanks for the tip anyway mate, I'm hopefully planning to drift over there in the kayak and catch some monsters soon

Nice trip mate! Every time I see you catch these redfin it makes me want to get out there and catch some yellow perch! Right now our water is cold, but I have caught perch in the winter so it might be time for me to get out there and break some necks!

Thanks mate! I live in a tricky spot because the water freezes, but it's not often enough for ice fishing. I know of a spillway where there is probably still open water to fish from shore and that will probably be my first winter outing of 2021 in a couple of weeks, and yellow perch will be on the guest list for dinner that night!

Thanks mate, they certainly kept me very busy and entertained! You can get the odd one over 30cm from the shore like that, but you find a healthy supply of the bigger ones out in deeper water on a boat

Thanks so much Andrew! The rods are only cheapies, the blue one with the yellow tip is a Jarvis Walker from K-mart, and the orange and black one is a Shakespeare Amphibian junior rod. I did spend a bit more on the reels though, they are both Shimano Sienna 2500 size reels which are usually about $55 when they go on sale at BCF or Anaconda

I appreciate that you break their necks before putting them on ice. I always find it annoying when people let them flop around for 5 minutes while they slowly die. I know fish don't feel pain like we do, but it just seems disrespectful to nature.

Thanks mate, I find that annoying as well. Even with pests like carp that we have to kill, I still like to do it quickly and efficiently so they don't suffer. Even if they don't feel pain, I reckon they feel stress
