When I hear this song, I think of the amazing time before the asteroid hit, especially in the ocean. And then the animals, the dinosaurs, pterosaurs, sea reptiles. All fade away. All of this thought accompanied by the image, of that Liopourodon lying on the beach, taking it's final breath as the weak and once preyed upon. Gather to feast. A common occurrence. First animals like the Postasuchus experienced that situation, dying as Coelophysis gathered around to feast. And when the dinosaurs were dying out, the mammals had patiently waited. And finally took their turn. But now, when are we gonna have to bow out, and which organism will be waiting for that day to come?

You might be interested to learn about a bite mark on a pliosaur specimen called the Monster of Aramberri. It was very likely made by an enormous pliosaur. In fact the pliosaur who made this bite mark had to have a tooth with a crown of 300mm, 2.5x longer than Kronosaurus queenslandicus' crown. Kronosaurus queenslandicus was 10 meters long and weighed around 10 tons, it was one of the largest pliosaurs to ever have lived. Do the math and what you get is a leviathan of a pliosaur 25 meters long and weighing about 150 tons (Coincidence?) while certainly not Liopleurodon this does give a bit of evidence to the idea of whale-sized pliosaurs. Also apparently the bitten pliosaur survived somehow and was then killed by something with tooth marks about two thirds of the larger one. It's certainly interesting to think about even if more study is needed to understand the fossil properly.

When I learned that liopleurodon was a measly 4 m and that predator X, the supposed true king of pliosaurus, was 12m I was a little disappointed that the 25 m monster was nerfed

top text bottom text Using any actual pliosaur as a base to scale it yields sizes no larger than 15m using Liopleurodon and less using others such as Pliosaurus, which yields a body length of 9.4 m using centrum length (but the centrum width of Aramberri is proportionally larger suggesting a robust built and a possible mass of 10.4 tonnes scaling from a graphic double integration mass estimation of Pliosaurus)
@toptextbottomtext30623 жыл бұрын
@@dylangillespie1976 You're getting things confused I never implied the Aramberri monster was any bigger than an ordinary pliosaur. It's the enormous bite marks on the specimen I'm using to scale whale-sized pliosaurs. You're absolutely correct about the Aramberri monster's size but not whatever bit it.

Yeah, you’re right. Sorry. Felt like a bit of an asshole immediately after posting my reply and tried to delete it but couldn’t because I’m using the KZbin web app. There is also an enormous Pliosaur scapula from the oxford clay (where cruel sea is set) suggesting a 3-4 metre skull.

@stoyantodorov21332 жыл бұрын
The budget was far from limited. It's the most expensive documentary ever made, costing around 10 million dollars per episode. Still, I get your point. Considering how much better and more affordable CGI has become it's shocking that no other dinosaur documentary has come even close to the quality of WWD.

This soundtrack really fits with life under the sea. They are in a place that is unfamiliar to us as we know more about mars and the moon and that we only explored so little of the ocean. From all the life we know from the sea, there are potentially many more species of animals we haven't discovered yet. We wonder to ourselves for thousands of years our existence, what's living under the ocean?
