Along with Ann Wilson, Deborah Harry had one of the best female voices in rock. No auto tune, no back up singers, just standing there and effortlessly knocking it out of the park.

This song shows Clem's brilliance; Deborah had a quaint habit of singing out of the side of her mouth at times, def. not pitch perfect, but an outstanding standup entertainer

Debbie never had the range that Ann Wilson did in her younger days. Ann was in a choir and also studied opera in her youth. I don't believe Debbie had that experience or any voice training, but that being said I love Debbie's unpretentious singing and stage presence.

I think the entire band was underrated, due to one thing; Debbie's looks. Arguably, she is the best looking female lead singer of all time. I believe that overshadowed her, and the rest of the band's, amazing talent.
@LeftistUprising2 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. She was actually hindered by her telegenic looks. Nobody could take here so seriously as a musician, because they had already pigeon-holed her as just a pretty-face.
@tedlast48962 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean here, but I have to disagree. I don’t think they are underrated. They were massive with youth culture in the early 80s and have influenced countless musicians and artists in the subsequent generations. I think they get the credit they deserve as a band. In fact, I once heard VH1 make the absolutely ludicrous claim that blondie helped pioneer rap with “Rapture”.

Underrated? No.
@EricaEchos Жыл бұрын
Best looking female lead singer of all time was Suzanna Hoffs of The Bangles (and she was no slouch vocally.) Also can't forget Stevie Nicks, the Wilson sisters from Heart, Cher & Linda Ronstadt. Later on you had Madonna, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Shania Twain, Nicole Scherzinger, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and many, many other beautiful and talented female singers.
@chris8405 Жыл бұрын
@@EricaEchos, these things are of course subjective. Some of those women you list were / are very attractive I agree, Shania especially - and I can name some more - but Deborah Harry was already 32 years old when Blondie became known. I was amazed by her stunning beauty and she was by then old enough to be my mother. She was still stunning aged 54 last time I saw Blondie.

Debbie's performance only cemented my belief that she was the the ultimate goddess. Even 44 years on, Dreaming still sounds as good as it did the day it was pressed onto Eat To The Beat, and No 3 in my favourite Blondie tracks, only being beaten by Union City Blue with 11:59 being the so underrated No 1.
