The line about the monk is probably in reference to a monk who went to the press to disclose what RM had said to him in confidence during a visit to a temple just before he went to the military. The line about being a diplomat is probably also a reference to BTS' work as cultural ambassadors- they've spoken at both the UN and the White House. In South Korea idols are held to extremely high standards with regards to their behaviour - no smoking (agust D smoking in Haegum is a fuck you to this specifically) , no public dating, no drugs, not even a hint of anything illegal- can't help but feel like that's what he's referencing with the lines about not doing anything illegal. Overall you're right, the album was all about getting everything off his chest before he went into the army!

I think the line about the monk is also more direct. If someone is ‘no monk’ it means they’re sexually active, not removed from the temptations of the world like a monk.
@ZariDV3 ай бұрын
@@butterbuttersbetter3689 I think it's both. RM is a rapper through and through so double entendres and wordplay is his playground. He's no stranger to having multiple meanings to a single line or word.

I think this whole album was a form of therapy for RM. He talks about it in the MMM (album exchange chat with Jimin) vid on BangtanTV. The original plan was for RM to enter the military after the release of his previous album Indigo, but there was too much inside him that he felt was unsaid that he needed to get out. Discussion was really great insight into the creation of this project.

RM stated that he said "everything he wanted to say" on this album...got it all out. "Groin" IS the body part, but he also said he pulled all of his emotions from that place deep deep inside (the groin area) for these songs. He also said he didn't want people to feel too comfy when listening to this album...wanted them to feel like they are on a rollercoaster.

The line "when I think I'm gonna crash, that's when I step on the gas" is inspired by a BTS song called Intro: Nevermind written by SUGA "if you feel like you're gonna crash then accelerate more". This song means so much to BTS members that another line "nevermind, it's not easy but engrave it onto your chest " was so inspiring to Jimin that he actually tattooed "nevermind " on his chest.

RM really played with a lot of melodies in this album. The whole album is a masterpiece as a whole and It's not really meant to be a mainstream music. RM was really raw and real with lyrisc(usually the topics about smoking aren't mentioned and It's kind of a big deal in Korea). The album is art as expected of RM so you always need to deep dive into his lyrisc.

V has a full album, Jin doesn't have one right now but now that he is back from military( a mandatory military enlistment every man has to do in Korea) he is preparing for it. But he does have some solo songs from the group's albums and more. His songs are- Tonight, Abyss, The Astronaut (Coldplay and him worked on it together), Awake, Moon, Epiphany. Now for V his album's name is Layover and the songs are- Rainy days, Blue, Love me again, Slow dancing, For us and slow dancing(piano ver.) More of his songs are- Fri(end)s, Stigma, Singularity, Inner child, Sweet night, Christmas tree (these two are an ost for k dramas) Winter bear, Scenery and Snow flower.

I love the shade thrown with the monk reference, but I also think it applies to the expectation that an idol should remain chaste and pure like a monk. RM has an innate sensuality that he doesn't often get to express as the leader or even as rap line. These solo albums are so crucial not just for RM and the other members, but for the fans to see them as more than just idols.

I don’t know if it’s been said in the comments anywhere but I like the lines “get your out the trunk”. I saw another interpretation of it as a way of saying don’t try to get a free ride off the legacy RM/BTS has created. Knowing what’s going on at Hybe at the moment (even though this was written a year ago) and the constant talk of “the Next BTS” makes the people wanting a free ride of their name idea hold up.
