RM Italy KL 200-P linear amp six month review

I have that same amplifier paired up with a President McKinley. The McKinley has a 1 and 1/2 watt dead key with a average 8-watt swing. And through the kl203 I'm getting a 20-watt dead key with an average power of 50 Watts with the pep around 110 watts. I've had mine for about a year now no issues whatsoever. Anyway great video appreciate it

RM Italy is obviously more affordable but a palomar or Texas star is the way to go. I run palomar with my cobra 29s less of a chance for RF feedback . 73s 406 caveman

That is an excellent buy. Can’t go wrong with RM Italy, they are reliable and tuff. Just don’t overdrive it ,2 1/2 to 3 watts max drive will do.I hope you can get it for that price, best of luck, 73s 406 caveman.

I run one of these in my truck. When I set mine up I ran the amp dead key up to the max without any modulation which was around 70 watts then I backed off the input power for a 50 watt carrier. What I wound up with was a radio with a 50 watt dead key that would swing anywhere between 65 to 75 watts depending on how loud you were speaking. I also have both the KL503 older version when they were using actual pill transistors and I also have the KL503 where they switched over to the MOSFETS. Both work very well and I only use these on the base station. Those amps are capable of a 240 watt dead carrier but I run mine at a 100 watt dead carrier that will easily swing right up to the 240 mark with a whistle but just speaking I see a good 50 to 60 watt swing from the 100 watt dead carrier. Not bad for these little amps.

All i have done to mine is soldered in some 30 amp cable and done away withe the fuse holder inside the amp and put fuse holder nearer the power supply and my amps been doing 250 watts pep all day long for about 8 years now. I think the power cable rm use is to thin and in all the years ive been running these amps the fuse never blows inside the amp the amp always goes first its better to have the fuse near the power supply as it goes before the amp. They seem to run better this way

LMR 400 is the best. but very expensive, or RG 58 is more affordable. LMR has zero loss at 100 feet .. RG you lose 30-40% at 100feet . Hope this helps. 73s 406 caveman.

How many watts was your cb radio swinging to without the linear ?PLMK

my radio swings 4w on AM on lowest power setting. that’s the max for that amp on AM. on ssb I turn the power all the way up swinging 40w. any more than 45w you will loose modulation clarity. I hope this helps thanks for watching. 73s 406 caveman

@@mancavestudiosnc Thank you very much.That is exactly how many watts most of my radios swing to.I run most around a 3 watt deadkey.Thanks it is great to have somebody review this linear without running it on a competition radio that swings 30 to 40 watts and then checking it on one of those PEP add on kits they add to the Bird Watt meters.Your review was very helpful for people not running a DX Radio with that many PEP Swing Watts..Thanks a bunch.:-)

No . It’s not harmful to the radio just make sure your SWR is under 1.5 and there is no possibility of audio feedback . As a rule of thumb the radio is always more harmful to the amp. hope this helps. Thanks for watching. 73s . 406 caveman.
