What do you mean if anyone will watch?? You are a master class! There is something peaceful about watching you fix a broken part and make it work. The talking, the not talking. It I very relaxing and informative. "Issues" find us all. It's how we deal with them and I have no doubt you will continue on and handle with dignity and grace.

Thanks! Sitting down to do a job like this is something I do when everything else is stressing me out, so maybe it works on both sides of the screen?

Good Job.. The Newer RM's have a clamp circuit built in so they are harder to overdrive. The older ones could pop a mosfet in a blink of an eye, if you used it on a unit that had the "golden screwdriver" applied to it. Whats the old saying...Once you let the smoke out .. well you know the rest. FYI If you place a thermal pad on the heatsink of the mosfet and then attach that to the metal plate thats mounted to the base (heatsink) of the exterior unit.. you will get better heat transfer, and longer key up time. also check the fuse on the board

Is that true what you said about the newer RM amps? Do you know what year they started doing that approximately?
@dcvoltzz44722 жыл бұрын
@@trackpackgt877 yes its true.. it can be blown but now u gotta work for it.. no I dont know when but it was early on.. back when they kept getting units back and got tired of proving they had been overdriven.

@@dcvoltzz4472 I appreciate the info because I have some amplifiers I inherited from my grandpa one of them is an KL 203 and I think it's probably from the '90s could be newer it's blue heat sink with red switches im always afraid to use it since it has sentimental value I don't want to blow it but on the other hand my grandpa used it for decades in his mechanics truck on a stock radio so idk lol thanks for the info brother

@@trackpackgt877 just don't push it beyond the spec and it will work for years
@trackpackgt8772 жыл бұрын
@@dcvoltzz4472 yeah but the spec is 1 to 10 watts so of course I went to the internet and I see everything from no more than one watt dead key or you'll burn it up to people saying I key 10 watts and never blowed mine up so I just can't get a straight answer on the internet I figure they're probably made to run off of a stock radio 4 Watts. I mean why would they build an amp that you then have to take your radio to be turned down so you would think they were made to run on a stock 4 watt am 12 watt ssb radio. Thanks again brother

I wish radio shack would bring back all their 2 meter radio gear and amps. The 1980’s radio shack was incredible. Lots of things you wanted/ needed right in stock.

If it's broke and you work on it and at the end it's not broke, you fixed it. Don't argue with success.

When I solder now it looks like a bad weld job on a home made go-kart frame :) there with ya on the worn out joints ( a little beyond really ) But working on radio’s and components is always fun and satisfying , and can resist working on a model.

Good morning and good job, Erik. I Feel your pain and then some. Pushing into my latter 60's. Worked like a bull all my life, and I am still working full time. Now add multiple decades of full contact martial arts. It takes a brighter light, a bigger magnifing glass and a little more time, but I still work on my own radios, and others on occasion. Always awaiting your next video. 73's.

Constructive criticism tip #1. When soldering components especially transistors, clamp on a alligator clip between the main body of the component and the legs to be soldered. This will act as a heatsink and dissapate the heat so it doesn't damage the transistor itself, also, always put a fresh film of heatsink grease on the component prior to reassembly. The only way to learn how to do anything is trial and error, nothing wrong with making mistakes, it's a part of life.🇺🇸✌️

Back in the 80’s and 90’s there was a little 25w amp called the mosquito, gave you just a little nudge. For some of your subs maybe do an updated video on making your own jumpers and soldering. Since you are doing repair video Nice video
