Your tutorials are fantastic! Absolutely pro - well done in terms of A/V quality, narration, and best of all - easy to understand. Having two boys (and me, dad) with dirt bikes I can't afford to run to the dealer for every little service requirement. So this is a superb resource. Keep up the good job! I am looking forward to seeing lot's more! Dirk (Cheltenham, ON, Canada)

Cartridge type. The RM 250 didn't get twin chamber showas until 2004. yes you can change the bushings when the forks are apart.

Refer to your owners manual for service schedule. Some guys just wait till they leak. I do a couple times a year. Regarding the bushings, inspect them when you have them apart. If the Teflon is wearing off, they need to be changed. We sell seals and bushings separate, but we also sell a pivot works kit with everything. Yes, they are machine specific.

@Yamahayz2502t - That is the air bleeder. it is an aftermarket accessory - there is just a screw there stock. They simply thread into the fork cap. If just the rep park came off, I would assume you need new ones. The red part shouldn't come off. We sell them on our site (not red though).

the cartridge fork video. The poor WR 250 never got the dual chamber fork. The WR450f finally got it in 2013. However, I too have a wr250f and the stock cartridge forks work great!
@rmatvmc12 жыл бұрын
- yes. Your 05 YZ will look a little different though (process is basically the same). The 05 SSS fork was new that year and totally changed in 2006.
@rmatvmc13 жыл бұрын
@2braappin - yes Basically the same. To change the oil, follow the steps in the video. If you are going to the trouble, put new seals in while you are at it; otherwise, you will find your seals leaking right after you went to all the work.
@rmatvmc15 жыл бұрын
@SuperDuke1995 - If you just want to cahnge the seal, no. You don't need to take apart the inner chamber. Howerever; why not? It most likely could use some freshening up anyway.
@rmatvmc14 жыл бұрын
@skiercaleb - No it is not. you need to watch the cartridge fork video we have. As a WR owner myself, I am disapointed yamaha hasn't put the new SSS (Dual chamber) fork on the WR yet. Even the 2011 WR's are still running the old fork. We are pretty much running 2004 YZ forks on the WR.

@hovchov123 - it is Necessary if the old ones are bad: however, it is always a good idea. Dust seals prevent dirt from getting to the seal thus prolonging seal life.

@661sand - The KYB SSS fork is a dual chamber type fork.
@rmatvmc14 жыл бұрын
@darsktm - to remove the inner chamber, you need to pull the bolt from the bottom of the fork, thus dumping all the oil in the outer chamber. You will need to remove the fork to do it right.

no you shouldn't lose any from the inner chamber doing what you said. I will do the same thing sometimes.

when you say "bleeder holes", I assume you mean the holes at the top of the inner chamber on the side of the cartridge. If so, that oil is actually outer chamber oil, it shouldn't be leaking from the inner chamber. however, it sounds like you have air in your inner chamber if it isn't rebounding all the way. I would put new oil in the inner chamber as well.
@rmatvmc15 жыл бұрын
You can add it through the bleeder screw. You just have to determine how much.
@rmatvmc15 жыл бұрын
@RepsolRC211V - it is actually a KX450f. Pretty much the same fork as your 06 YZ125 though.

@yamadogyz - On dual chamber'Twin chamber forks it is not usually needed.
@rmatvmc11 жыл бұрын
Most people will run a 5w oil unless the forks are constantly being bottomed out then you may want to step up to a 7w or 10w. As for the oil specs they are 375ml for each leg. It's saying 193ml for the inner cartridge and then of course you would bleed any excess out and then the 375ml for the outer chamber.
@rmatvmc14 жыл бұрын
@braaup - i don't see having time to do that any time soon. Your XR forks are actully a lot easier. Get a service manual and it will walk you through it.
@rmatvmc11 жыл бұрын

Standard Oil Specs for your bike are 198mL (6.7 US oz.) for the inner chamber and then 335mL or (11.3 US oz.) for the outer chamber.
@rmatvmc13 жыл бұрын
@ridemotorcyclesin200 - both forks are the same with the exception of your 2011 KX. Kawasaki did each side different for the first time. I can't say I have done those forks yet, so I couldn't tell you the specifics.
@rmatvmc12 жыл бұрын
I would recommend you invest in a service manual but the specs for that bike are using Pro Honda HP Fork Oil 5W or an equivalent oil and 6.3oz for the inner cartridge and 13.75oz in the outer cartridge for standard settings

Yes it does have dual chambers. All CRF450 and CRF250s have dual (Twin) chamber forks. So does the CR250 97-2007. The 125 never got them. YZs started running them in 2005. The RM125 got them in 2001 and the RM250 got them in 2004. All RMZ450s have them. KX 4-strokes got them in 2006. My CRF manual calls for 5 weight fork oil.

basically the same question as surlybonds. I completed part one of the video tutorial.all was well then realised that I had totally forgotten about the inner fork cap tool so was considering just replacing outer oil and putting back together. however the rod is not offering any resistance and settles itself all the way compressed. does this mean somewhere along the line i managed to get air in the inner chamber? a fair bit did come out the bleeder holes. anyhow great vids keep em up
@Go6911 жыл бұрын
I hope the oil seals you are installing are manufactured differently than the factory seals as I think you put the seal in upside down. In the video it looks like you put the garter spring side towards the dust seal. If I'm not mistaken, the garter spring on OEM seals actually goes towards the oil side.
@rmatvmc12 жыл бұрын
it depends on the fork. I would fix them.

fantastic video, can this be done with the forks still in the bike yokes? my mate says you can?
@surlybonds7115 жыл бұрын
In reference to the above post by atomicpunk2002, if you do open only the outer cap, invert the forks, and drain all of the fluid from the outer chamber-will you lose any of the oil from the inner cartridge? That's precisely what I did, I just wanted to change out the outer oil and start with a known quantity for suspension tuning purposes. Now I am afraid I may have lost oil from the inner cartridges. Should I go back in and do the entire procedure? Thanks by the way, your videos are the best!

Do i have to disassemble the whole fork just to change the seals on my 04 Crf450r?
@rmatvmc11 жыл бұрын
Most riders can get away using the 5W oil in the forks and most times they will step up to a higher weight if they are constantly bottoming out the suspension... a lot of the smaller bikes will use a higher weight but most times the bigger bikes stick with the 5w. You would be fine with both but i would stick to what the service manual says unless you had a reason to step up
@atomicpunk200216 жыл бұрын
