I own this bike, The weight is VERY manageable. You need to understand that the common bike throughout the world is a 249cc and under... Some countries this IS the BIG bike. Love my CRF250L RALLY! I opted for the no ABS model. I agree with your review entirely!

CPTNBLOOD34 exactly. Importing a 250cc can cost extra $6000 here in Pakistan. Putting total cost to $12000 almost. I am almost done deciding buying 250rally in mid of 2019.. i am totally into offroad and want a bike which does not need much of maintenance. A very simple hardcore engine.. is it the bike i must have or crfL is ok?? I like it because of its bigger rally look..looks more like a street bike but obviously can go nuts offroad too. Must mention tht i am also into touring. I also have option of getting cb500x for same price. But i dont think cb500x can handle kinda offroading i am into. Plus it ll be even expensive to manage.. right?? Guide me guys.

I really hope this is the direction a lot of dual sports go. A little more road-friendly than most current dual sports with larger tanks and the nice rally wind screen, but still has that nice high clearance, tractor factor, and suspension that make it shine off road. I'd love to get a hold of one of these 250L rallys!

I own CRF250L. Its a great bike in case you understand what is it's purpose. Its not a dirt bike, its an universal light motorcycle. For me CRF is perfect because it exactly does what I need. It takes me to the office and back, to the grocery stores, what ever. I travel with it for 300-400 kilometers without any problem, its very nice for holiday rides, no matter if its road or trail. And, of course, all of it is very cheap - CRF doesn't burn too much gas and does not require frequent maintenance.

What I can't get past are reviews in a person's garage, your review while riding the bike where it was meant for was much more meaningful. Nice honest review. I have the Rally myself, found it to be a great bike. You have to be honest about its capabilities, it's not an enduro, it's a trial bike. Ride it with this in mind and it does a great job, it's fun and looks great. It's certainly not perfect, but very few bikes are, modding the bike is all part of the fun of ownership, of a motorcycle. Look forward to your follow up videos, will be interesting to hear about the various mods you do, to your bike.

Gained a lot of low-end actually I can take off in 2nd if I want. I bought the speedo speedometer calibrator thing. The gear swap really let 6 gear do its job and not bog down. I always wondered why they stopped the XL 600 R and the 650 Dominators. I had a XL 600 R model 1984 and drove 130.000 km on 1 and the same engine without any problems. It had 44 horsepower and the weighth was 142 kg. The chassis was awesome, everything was reliable and stuurdy. Even during the harsh winters we have in Austria the XL didn't make any problems, and though there was no electric starter, you needed not more than 2 or 3 kicks in the cold to make it run. I miss that kind of bike. It was wonderful to travel with it: Fuel capacity 12 litres and not more than 3,2 for 100 km. Teneres were good too, but not equal in my opinion: Chassis worse, and their engine didn't last as long and needed more petrol.

Ok, what trails are you guys riding in Utah? I had a 2014 CRF250L - Seat Concepts, stock gearing, EJK, FMF Powercore header & Megabomb muffler, airbox mod, 1 inch Bar risers, skid plate, Dunlop d606, Barkbusters, Acerbis 3.1 fuel tank, Dirtrack panniers, and a rotopax fuel tank for each side, when going on those 250 mile trips in the Utah wasteland. The bike really was one of the "funniest" bikes I've ever owned for the Northern Utah mountainous rough high gravel areas where I would ride and really came alive after making the exhaust, airbox, and EJK mods. It would keep up with everyone in my group who rode dual sports and surpassed them in the rough technical areas (except for the KTM guys). The bike was better capable than my now DR650 for the terrain I enjoy riding in, but sold it for DR650, because I don't trailer my bike to the riding areas and needed something that could better handle the crazy Utah divers coming north to the southern areas on I-215 and I-15 who seemed all to be doing 85+ MPH.

Ima guessing that the suspension is fine for lighter riders; that a few more ponies can be had by modifying the air box and jetting properly; breaking the engine in properly; aftermarket muffler to save weight and increase power a bit. It's something 25 year old me would have been thrilled to own.

What a great trail, you guys dont know how lucky you are, here in Germany everything is restricted . Good Honda is street legal with 25 HP, most more sportive OR Bikes are limited to 9 or 10 HP due to emissions, just in pure OR they can use their true power.

Yes, Yes and No, and don't forget the exhaust system, airbox mode and fuel controller, but customizing your bike is half the fun. Okay maybe like a quarter of the fun.

I find the little CRF gets nowhere near the advertised mpg, especially with the stage 1 mods. I might get 60-70 miles on a tank, riding highway with a full yoshi exhaust, EJK, airbox mod and a 13T cog. a bigger fuel tank would be lovely lol.
@BruceHoult4 жыл бұрын
It cruises at 65 to 70 just fine, gets to 75 quickly but it doesn't feel like cruising any more, 80 absolute maximum. It feels the most peppy at 70, that's the best speed for climbing hills in 6th etc. I'm averaging 3.3 l/100km, 71 MPG US, 86 MPG UK mostly on hilly twisty but tarsealed NZ back roads.
@BruceHoult4 жыл бұрын
@@unabashedindividualist6232 ... and if you don't modify it you get 160 miles range (at least I do), it's quiet, and probably has all of 3 HP less than yours. Honda knows what they're doing. If you want more power get a bigger bike. This thing is plenty fast for a 250 if you use 7000 to 8000 RPM and full throttle when necessary.

@@BruceHoult a lot of the fuel savings seem to be the fact that the bike runs pretty lean from the factory for emissions purposes.

What about a rear sprocket with 1 more tooth - better lower speed pulling and acceleration - you lose 5 mph off the top end but it is like adding about 4 hp or so.
@williamkenny14456 жыл бұрын
is the seat more comfortable than the wr250r. for top speed does it run out of gear or horse power. would an extra tooth on the front sprocket work for better highway ability.
@BruceHoult4 жыл бұрын
It will pull to redline in 5th, which is about 80 mph. It'll also do 80 in 6th, at 8000 RPM, which is 1000 past max torque but 500 below max power. Dropping the gearing to do 80 mph at 8500 (e.g. 13 tooth on the front or 42 on the back) will make it do 80 a little easier (e.g. climb a hill at that speed, or into a slight headwind) and *might* let you get 85 out of it (at 9000 RPM) but it's not going to be comfortable. I think going to 15 on the front would still let it pull 70 or 75 mph in 6th on reasonably flat roads with little or no headwind, and make those speeds more relaxing, but it would take much less to force a downshift. It *might* even make 80 easier in both 5th and 6th -- and make 85 possible (for very short periods!) in 5th. Maybe worth a try :-)

My 2013 250 L is being delivered tomorrow and I can't wait to get her on some local trails. Is the Rally version that much better aside from the heigh difference and some newer styling ? Also, a local guy said on his review that fitting an FMF Q4 exhaust to his 250 L gave him around 5 BHP more, does that sound realistic to you guys as it would cost me around £400+ to buy one ? Love the reviews, really informative but jealous of the open space you guys have in the states !

How do you rate that next to the Kawasaki 250 KLX Enduro?

KTM 690. Look no further. You get what you pay for. It is the best off-road oriented dual sport I've found. And it will still do 80mph on the hwy without a problem. Also, long maintenance intervals. I love mine. Of course, it helps that I'm 6'4" about 220 lbs but it feels like it was made for me. I can go anywhere a true dirtbike can go and still ride to the trail and home.

KTM 690 is a nice bike. Costs exactly twice as much as the Rally.

Thinking of buying this as my first motorcycle. You mentioned in the video your weight and how that affects suspension. Do you feel it would be an issue for a guy 240 pounds?

CRF250L - foot pegs too far forward for standing....really bad standing position. Seat upgrade is a must as it's not comfy. Find you have to gear down alot in slow/steep technical stuff. However great bike that can surprise. Would love to know if the rally has a more comfy seat? Does anyone have any opinions on the power improvments between rally and standard L. Great video. Thanks!

For all the people that are throwing the bike down: the main purpose of this is being ridable with an A2 license, for the ones that have a full A license they have AfricaTwin and a CRF450 Rally edition so you, guys, are not the target for this bike. Maken it lighter would have been thrown off the P/W rateo limit for A2.

I have been trying to find out how this bike would suit a beginning rider at 6’2” 250lbs. Commute around town 35-55mph, and an occasional trail ride. I have read reviews that the suspension may be too weak. Thoughts?

Nice video. I see the helmet move relative to the camera. Is it a GoPro on a shouldermount, and image stabilisation on the computer? Anyway, looks great! Sorry the nickle drops, it's helmet mounted but the helmet moves after stabilisation.

Boy, you sure can ride that bike! Wow. Think I will get me a Rally this summer. Here in Germany it comes with LED tuns signals and head lights. Your turn signals look like conventional stuff!?

Gute Wahl Svenja, hab ja meine seit Februar. Geiles Bike kann ich nur sagen.

The indicators are conventional with bulbs. No LEDs. Just the headlight is LED.

One or Two more teeth on the rear sprocket - or One less tooth on the front will make it much better off road and hill climbing - you will lose some top speed but it is not a street racer anyway.

I love the rally I was looking at one earlier. Either it or a cb500x or possibly a older sv650. Already ride just wanna try something new. I want something I can actually ride on the streets legally I'm tired of getting pulled over. But I want something that can wheelie as good as my bike (2008 Crf250x) longest wheelie is about a mile I'd say

I have a 2003 KTM 640 ADV that tips the scales at 350 dry. Same response as you. Honda has 14 years to trim weight but didn't. Why?

keeping it cheap, the market for honda is new riders and most of us would buy a WR250R or KTM if the honda cost similar to either.

What bike would you rather choose Kawasaki Versys 300 or Honda CRF 250?
@BruceHoult4 жыл бұрын
If you care more about comfort and speed on tarmac then get the Versys. If you care more about trails like in this video (and much worse!) while still being usable at the speed limit on the road then the CRF Rally is better. The Rally will go places the Versys would never dream of.
