I have a Honda CRF450X 06. Did a full overhaul/cleaning of my bike and replaced a lot of broken pieces. When I reinstalled the existing throttle cable that was on the bike I have now developed the following issue. When I turn the bars full right I get an increase in RPM’s. This issue does not occur when the the bars are in the left turned or straight forward position. I have adjusted both the top and bottom adjusters and still have the issue. Any suggestions?

Are the throttle cables connected to the carburator? Or if its fuel Injected on the manifold?
@krisu89604 жыл бұрын
If youhave a carbureted engine, the throttle cable usually connects to the carb. If you have a fuel injected bike, the cable will connect to the throttlebody

The push and pull cables and very similar. The main differences between the 2 is how they are routed and where they connect to the throttle assembly and throttle body.

@rmatvmc6 жыл бұрын
*ronenfe* If you throttle body slide and carb clean, then it's most likely the cables are sticking. Cable lube can help with this, if the cable is the problem. I'd recommend lubing your cable first and go from there. You may need to check your throttle tube as well and make sure it's clear from any debris. Thanks.

When I turn the front wheel to the right it has really slow throttle return but when the wheel is turned to the left (cable is straightened out) it snaps back quickly. Is the throttle cable just old and needing to be replaced?
@rmatvmc6 жыл бұрын
it could be that you don't have enough slack in your cable and that it is somehow binding when turned to the left. Have you added risers or put on a taller bar?
@MoeHawk946 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I don't have a taller bar or risers... I have a ton of slack but the cables seem to rub on the walls of the cable liner whenever the cable is bend even slightly causing a very sluggish return. I think I'll just replace the cable its getting kind of old at this point. Do you recommend any in particular at RM ATV MC?

@davidrsmith24174 жыл бұрын
Older cables often take forever to lube by just holding the free end and using the cable lube nozzle to spray hit and miss. Beside requiring gravity and being s l o w to lube a long cable, more than half of your lube is wasted making a mess. A professional bike shop cannot take forever and make a mess lubing cables. With either gizmo shown, the lube job is both fast and neat. Lube can be forced under continuous hydraulic pressure into the cable without mess. Also, you don't need gravity to help as the hydraulic pressure from the nozzle can also force lube upward into a cable. The smaller metal gizmo is only about $8 on amazon. Less time wrenching = More time riding.

@davidrsmith24174 жыл бұрын
The KLX250S may be similar. The 2009 KLX250S Factory Service Manual in its Appendix has dual throttle cable routing diagrams. One shows the routing at the handlebar throttle grip down toward the down-tube. Another is a frame side view which shows the routing of the dual cables from the down-tube to the carb itself. A searchable PDF is nice so you can search on "throttle cable" and find every incidence of this term. Good luck.

My buddy was removing a throttle cable, pulling on it to clear a frame member which was slightly interfering. He yanked the cable a bit to free it and it came flying out of the frame and the lead ball on the end of the cable hit him in the eye socket and left a huge bruise. Like snapping a whip. Luckily, it did not directly hit his eye. Safety goggles are worn by all smart mechanics and all wise people. Others do not need to wear them.
