Watch history unfold as the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen becomes the most valuable Grand Prix car ever sold-and the second most valuable car ever sold.
This landmark sale took place on Saturday, February 1st, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Originally donated to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in 1965, the W 196 R remained under their careful stewardship for nearly 60 years before being offered alongside 10 other significant vehicles, including the legendary 1964 Ferrari 250 LM-the very car that secured victory at Le Mans in 1965 with Luigi Chinetti’s NART team.
