Welcome back to KZbin, that handy work on the hull of Mauretania is incredible and magnificent, it reminds me of seeing the projects of others who convert 1/350 Titanic models into either one of her sisters, Olympic or Britannic, from what I've read those are really tough projects to accomplish but they are possible, seeing your Lusitania being converted to Mauretania is a testament of your incredible and masterful art skills. It might be a bit late but Mauretania did have the hatch that was removed on the bow

She did, but it was a lot less obvious than the one that was in place. The one cast into the hull was about 0.5mm thick which would equate to about a 17cm thick plate! So I intend to produce something a little more to scale later on. Didn’t explain that very well in the video 😛

Hi I got the wrong drill to start with I got a double ended one so bad drilled about twenty holes before getting rid of it and buying the same as yours. Hope you have a good Xmas and your hand recovers from all the drilling.

Cheers Mark, yeah there’s a world of difference between a good and a bad hand drill. I used on on the titanic that was made from aluminium and the threads stripped after about one deck of portholes! Have a good Christmas too!

if you cut your new anchor opening in the area that you filled with putty won't the hull sides appear very thick? or will you shave some off the inside ?

The anchor opening did cut into the side of the hull a fair way, so it should be ok… easier to tell once it’s done! And if it’s not a success I can always do as you say and shave bits off the inside

MR Putty or any 1 component putty isn’t for me. Takes ages to dry, sinks in while doing so, annoying. For bigger holes standard automotive 2 component filler is the better choice in my opinion. Hardens in a few minutes, doesn’t sink in and is a breeze to sand.

Have to say I think you are right. I used Mr Putty due to recommendations but crikey it took a long time to dry! And it was very shrinky. All in all not blown away by it.
