Very nice, just goes to show that operation of anything steam driven was truly an astonishing job to master. This kind of reminded me of something my brother had which was fueled by a white flammable brick, although very young at the time, I seem to remember it being a Traction Engine. Had a quick look at the range of Stuart kits available and very impressed with what you can get for your money. Thanks for sharing this 👍

Thanks for a fantastic treat, was really excellent. My late father would have loved this because he had a steam powered traction engine that you fed with coal and water as a youngster. This was also fitting for the channel given your building of the legendary ocean liners in a time of steam power, thanks so much.

So cool.... hard to believe that just less than 70 or so years ago we were still moving away from this form of power.

Yeah it’s remarkable isn’t it. I mean in the UK we stopped using steam locomotives in 1968!

My son desperately wants a live steam locomotive. Such a thing would be too large for our garden railroad. But he would love this! Have you ever actually used the engine for anything or is it just a cool working model? 🤔

I noticed a wheel that looks like it would take a belt to drive additional equipment on the side. Have you ever hooked this up to say, an alternator from a car to see how much voltage/wattage it could generate? Also, would it not make sense to have a pressure gauge on the line from boiler to engine cylinder to tell how much pressure you're applying to the engine or is the boiler based gauge close enough considering the scale of the engine? Awesome stuff! Thanks for the video!

Hi there, I’ve never hooked up a generator no! Safe to say there will be plenty of losses along the system. I don’t think the boiler is that efficient to be honest. Re the pressure gauge on the main line I’m not sure why it’s not done, I have never seen it done in any model engine but not to say it isn’t a possibility. For model engines I guess it’s a bit of an over complication in the sense that I tend to run my engine to a speed that seems sensible and beyond that there’s not feedback really. Thank you for the comment though, interesting questions, I’ll have to look into the pressure gauge.
