The John-Brown Shipyards at Clydebank introduced several design innovations for the Elizabeth over her older sister ship Queen Mary, including increased(and uncluttered) deck space- by removing the large, bulky sun deck air funnel casings & centralizing them at base of the 2 funnels. Her aft(rear) cascading decks are clearly inspired by those of the streamlined Normandie(1935).

Your model is fantastic, one question. What did you use to create the "ropes" leading up to the masts? I'm sure my terminology is wrong there but I hope you get the point!

It's black thread ( rigging ) and I bought rings that you can buy at stores where you make your own jewelry. the ring are glued at certain points on the model ( string thread through ) glue rings where you intend on putting rigging..

Good model but the Revell Queen Mary has much better detail. I agree that they should have window decals on the upper decks and the tops of the 'air shafts' are absent on the Airfix Queen Elizabeth which are visible on the Revell QM. But then I'm not sure if the Queen Elizabeth had visible air shaft tops?

It's a shame that the model doesn't have more detail, I'm thinking about getting it once I'm finished with my current projects (Queen Mary and Oriana) There is also a QE 2 1/600 scale model, but it's quite rare. If I find one of those for a decent price I might get that instead. I ordered some 1/600 railings from eBay already and am waiting for them to arrive.. Great job with the model too. (The revell's 1/600 SS United States is also a model I might get next, haven't decided..)

CaptainSmith23 .. it was a special edition limited number (67 of 500) by Blue Ridge Models and I sourced it through freetimehobbies.com ...I checked tonight but it appears they’re out of stock now. I got that kit about 4-5 years back... I’d been searching for a good kit of ‘Normandie’ for some years and found this one. It’s 1/700 scale and was pricey, but it’s a nice model with some weight for its size. This kit allows you to configure the ship as she was at launch or later after her refit...it also came with a really nice poster of Normandie which is now framed and on my wall near my Titanic and Queen Mary 2 models. I’ve also got Queen Elizabeth 2 in a 1/1200 scale as well....QM2 is 1/400 and the oldest of the lot, Titanic done nearly thirty years ago now from memory is 1/350 scale...was just looking through the kit...found a leaflet...www.frenchlines.com....check it out.

The Mauretania is a little easier to build and paint up due to smaller size. I have made both, and I prefer the more classical steam ship lines of the Mauretania over the Queen Elizabeth.

Why people talk like caveman talk? Or type like caveman talk? Is internet make us de-evolve? It not look like Titanic except in most superficial sense. Elizabeth ship bigger, faster than Titanic. Have two big smoke tube; Titanic have four skinny smoke tube. RMS Queen Elizabeth have cruiser stern and rake stem. Titanic have counter stern and perpendicular stem. Big fast ship built 25 year after Titanic so look less old timey. But one thing like Titanic: Big fast Elizabeth ship also needless lost because people stupid and greedy.
