Why not leave everything connected and just test the load (starter) side of the solenoid when you hit the start switch?

This will tell you it’s and open but will it tell you if there is corrosion or something causing a limit of the current? Make sense? Even if a little current can sneak through it’s an “open”. My bike will sometimes just click and some times weak start even with a new batt.

Great video. Was able to diagnose my faulty relay on my 2000 Polaris 425 expedition. I purchased a replacement solenoid but the new one only has one wire. My old relay has two wires on it. One is for transmission neutral and the other from the ignition switch. Any idea how I manage this wire install. Not sure what to do with my second wire.

Tie it into a splitter and have 1 in 2 out maybe? Idk if they're both getting the same power at the same time tho

Your new relay only has one wire because it must connect to ground through the mounting bracket. This is in effect your second wire. You may need a relay with 2 wires to replicate the exact functionality of your original system. The old relay was likely only grounded when in neutral, or the clutch was pulled in.

Quick question, do these solenoids act the same as a regular relay where if they rattle when you shake it, it needs replacing? I've got a intermittent starting problem with my bike so checking the solenoid it rattles when I give it a little shake. Thanks, Todd.

So when I hit my starter button my solenoid makes loud clicking noise but the machine does not start. It’s on an old Polaris four wheeler. Does that mean the solenoid is OK and it’s something else?

Put a new relay on my 1998 Yamaha Timberwolf 2x4. With the battery disconnected I get continuity across the posts. Should I? Can the relay get stuck in the closed (on/start) position even without current? I'm having a problem where when I shut off the switch and the key, the starter motor keeps turning. I have to disconnect the battery ground. I can't figure it out. The quad starts easily and runs smooth, but is the starter motor still turning? I can't hear because the motor is too loud. Before changing some electronics, coil, key switch and harness, starter relay, solenoid, the starter would start turning when I connected the battery. I have about 3 weeks to figure this out before hunting season, or else I'm going to have to put a switch on the main ground to disconnect it, and maybe one on the starter relay if the starter motor is still turning.

Can the starter relay cause the instrument panel to not light up. I’m getting zero power and I checked fuses and my ignition fuse is getting no power by the way

Negative wire is usually grounded through the vehicle harness to the battery negative terminal or frame.

Not necessarily, but usually if you can hear the click in the starter relay it is fine.
