@@paulwilson9763 That is the Border Force's job, the Coast Guard is a land based organisation (I think you are confusing them with the US Coast Guard). Those small boats and occupants can't be taken back to France, the French won't accept them because that would break European law and the French would be fined.

@@deathcabforcutie3889 You have a poor understanding of what the RNLI does and of the law. The RNLI exists to save lives at sea, all lives. Under the laws of the sea you must help those in distress. The Border Force exists to pick up those that are attempting to cross the Channel unlawfully, but there are occasions when they are overwhelmed by the numbers of small boats. They then call on the assistance of nearby vessels including the RNLI to help those in distress. They cannot and would not leave those people to drown. The activities of the lifeboat crews is not unlawful in any way. It would only become unlawful if a lifeboat crew took backhanders off criminals to go and pick up people off French beaches, which is something that has never happened and would never happen. Perhaps YOU might like to apologise to the RNLI for your stupidity and racism. The lifeboat crews are 95% unpaid volunteers who put their lives on the line every time they go out on a shout.

The RNLI is not funded by government and in modern times that's a real blessing. When the service is criticised for being a 'taxi service for immigrants', it's a sign of our times that unfortunately, in some people's heads, politics, ego and racism have a higher value than human life. Many thanks to all the RNLI teams for giving freely of their time and often risking their own lives to save others. Who'd want to be an ill informed, biased, populist politician when you can do something meaningful in life. Good job teams.

For crying out loud, why don't people check tide times BEFORE going out into the sea or onto beaches, there's plenty of tide info available online, or if they haven't got net access then they can get a little booklet from Laver's, they're available by mail order for different areas around the UK and I used to use them. And they should also always check marine weather forecasts beforehand too, then they can make a more safely informed decision and save the rescue crews from having to risk their lives when it's preventable. Use some common sense!

Are all words magic to you? Or just those like 'socialism?' If this is socialism, so is a church with a soup kitchen. It's primarily volunteers giving of their own time, funded by millions of folks giving freely of their money. No one is coerced. Nothing is taken. I imagine too, lots of businesses and individuals make money supplying services and goods to the RNLI. Seems awfully far afield of that boogieman 'socialism.' Someone has to be paid to build those boats. Those radios don't assemble themselves. Someone has to create all that gear the RNLI team. From their helmets right down to their boots, I imagine a lot of capitalists are making a fair, reasonable profit supplying the RNLI. Scuttle back under your wharf, troll. We know what words really mean, and how things really work.

We can't return the illegal immigrants to France, they won't accept them. It is illegal under European law and France would be fined if it did so. The RNLI is not providing a ferry service, they are preventing people from drowning. That is somewhat different.
@steveparker7164

@@stevebarlow3154 What is the role of the French Navy accompanying the migrants boats? Yet RNLI travel 11 - 20 miles to "rescue" when the French Navy is a few hundred feet away. If you lived in London and your house caught fire you wouldn't want the fire engine to come from Glascow would you. The reason is they DECLINE the French Navy for RNLI to take them to the UKL for benefits. Hence you are the preferred taxi of choice.
@stevebarlow3154
@stevebarlow3154 3 жыл бұрын
@@steveparker7164 Once the migrant boat is in the water the French Navy cannot legally do anything but escort that boat to the start of British waters. The only way for the French to legally stop any migrants is to catch them in the act of launching a boat. But there is a hundred miles of coastline to patrol, so that is easier said than done. The reason Britain is the destination of choice for some migrants is that they tend to be English speakers and often have relatives living in the UK. Most illegal immigrants are not eligible for any State benefits, nor are they allowed to work. At best they will be dumped in some cheap bed and breakfast hotel and given three mediocre meals per day. That's not a lifestyle I'd choose.
