Praise to all rhe lifeguards out there on the beaches. You save not only one person, but generations. Kudos and thank you.

Happens here in Maui all the time. They just called off the search this evening for a woman that was snorkeling and disappeared They haven’t been able to find her since Tuesday so the search was called off They were having a beautiful vacation here and then she’s just gone. You’d be surprised how often it happens in Maui. The ocean is powerful. You must respect it The lifeguards are the angels of the ocean. Our first responders here are always busy 😢

The video should have said- if you ever get caught in a rip current/rip tide- don’t try to fight against it. You will not win. You need to try to swim parallel to the beach until it releases you or let it take you out further to sea until it lets you go. You need to stay afloat instead of burning on your energy and drowning

Praise God!! Wonderful work from the RNLI and to Ellis for being brave and going to get help for his mum 💕 My husband is a Marine and he was thankfully at the beach one day when he noticed two people stuck out at sea. There was only life guards at every other tower (this was in Virginia Beach, Virginia USA) so he had to try and wave the other to the tower but they failed to see him. He ran into the water and was able to drag the female to shore. She was almost unconscious. He then pulled her partner out of the water. My husband risked his own life to save two other peoples lives and I am so extremely proud of him. Turns out the two young people were drunk and had decided to swim in the ocean at sunset. When I found that out I was so angry at them. I’m still glad he saved their lives though ☺️ rip currents are a scary thing. I learned that you have to try and swim parallel to the shoreline and then you will swim out of the rip current and eventually be able to make it back.

I couldn't help crying watching this! The mother not knowing if her son was back to safety and suddenly imagining his life without and the little boy on the beach thinking his mother had died. Too much! I'm so happy it turned out that all the people caught in the riptide were rescued.

Congratulations to the heroic - real heroes: people of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and this young chap. Absolutely terrifying. So pleased at the eventual outcome.

I know how she feels. I once went to Aruba (an Island in the Caribbean sea off the east coast of south america.) for a vacation and I went swimming in the shallow part of the Caribbean next to a beach and it was easy getting into the water but once I went to get back out of the water the current pressing against me was too strong and I was not strong enough to swim against it so my mom who was with me grabbed my arm and pulled me to shore since she is a much stronger swimmer then me. we fought like hell to get through the current to get back to the shore and one of my legs randomly cramped and locked up and I became temporarily unable to keep my self above the water and swim so mom had to hold me up as she swam to shore. By the time we got back on the sand and back to our car we both had severe sunburns that took a couple months to heal from. The sun is much stronger in Aruba then it is in America since Aruba is very close to the equator (the band of heat around the middle of our planet where the sun hits the hardest and the strongest.) Recovering from the sunburn was absolute hell. it drove me crazy having extreme itchiness all over but not being able to scrub or scratch it without feeling intense burning and stinging. it's one of the worst pains I have ever felt. it was way worse then any sunburn I have ever gotten while at home in north america.

You NEVER EVER flight a rip current because you WILL LOOSE. If you panic and swim towards the shore you're going to get tire and the current will take you out to sea anyway. When caught in a rip current you swim transversal to the current. The current is taking you out to sea, so you swim parallel to the shore. Eventually you WILL get out of the current and be able to swim to shore. DO NOT use all of your energy getting out the current because you don't know how far away from the shore the current is going to take you. And then, you will not have enough energy to go back to shore. What you want is endurance not speed, so don't kill yourself getting out of it fast. DO NOT PANIC! Always know that the current WILL STOP and you'll be able to go back to shore.

People keep saying you should swim sideways to the Rip Tide but truth is, if you are Really caught in a Rip tide you can't do anything. You are disorientated, out of sight of others because it takes you out so far so quickly and you just don't know what happened. Just like this Lady/. I had a swell of water above my head and couldn't even see the cliffs where I had literally just bought my body board. I was exhausted by the time I got rescued, if I hadn't clung on to that body board for dear life I actually think I wouldn't be here now. I had only rode one wave with my board and the second one just took me away. There were 48 of us saved all at once over the two beaches at Perrin Sands in Perranporth. It was about 8 years ago. I am actually looking to see if there are any videos of it on here. Basically if you see Life Guards on a Beach it's because it's a dangerous beach. That board never got used again. I can't thank the RNLI enough for what they do. I had set up a Direct Debit to their charity on a holiday trip 2 days before I got rescued. I always found that a bit odd, I was determined to set it up, my Husband had said we can do it when we get home, but I insisted on doing it there and then.

I did have a professional career in part teaching people to respect the sea. I would expect local lifeguards to know the beach they patrol ,and advise people when dangers develop.

In Australia almost EVERYONE knows about rips, what to do, and how to survive. Extremely dangerous. This video fails in that it does not say what you should do when you get in a rip. More signage and more education, videos etc etc. Many tourist die in Ozz because they don't know what to do when they get in a rip. RIP.
