These lads are well known for racing these cars around!

looks like a big parking garage hard to believe that it floats.
@Nupetiet10 жыл бұрын
They actually float very very high up in the water since almost the entire ship is filled with air instead of cargo! They wind up rolling a _lot_ because of it, too.
@SportSoulLife9 жыл бұрын
The ship propably needed to load a lot of ballast because the cargo is so light. This ship is built for a lot heavyer stuff.

i remember ulsan, pusan, kunsan, incheon..... yokohama, nagoya, osaka,hiroshima... car noise, ventilation & smoke all-over.... it was a real nightmare prior each departure from ports, to search for stowaways....12 decks, having onboard about 6400 completely different type of cars, buses, vans, tractors, bulldozers, etc, etc...could be anywhere.... you could not finish search even in one week... i quit for container ships...
@djdjerojr11 жыл бұрын
You can obviously tell this is a well organised shiploading procedure, most likely export cars directly from the factory.

They are moving those cars on board and a very fast speed how do they do it without damaging cars?
@CMDRSweeper11 жыл бұрын
For peeps in Norway we do not complain over the freight charge. In the final sea of costs, it is just a drop, the real expense comes when the government want their share of it tax wise. A Corvette C6 bought new in the US, will cost 3 times of its value in the US in taxes ALONE.

In the overseas shipping business, speed is necessary to keep up with demand, they do not hire more personnel than needed as you see the van at around the half way mark is where the drivers gather to be shuttled back to the next group of cars to be leaded. That gives the aboard crew time to tie down the cars and arrange anything for the next round of loading.
@florinbala86698 жыл бұрын
joshua cornell: you are wrong. there is no time to be done like that. ship is providing belts for securing cargo on arrival of cars on loading decks. loading & securing of cargo is always done by local stevedores only. crew just check condition of lashing prior departure & while underway. otherwise, crew just assist & monitor cargo operations on different decks.. apart of regular dangers, when you are carrying second hand cars, you may have fire on board due to ever-present fuelleakages. in persian gulf we found daily 85-90 degrees celsius as regular condition under upper decks....finally-we passed in & outward through US Navy blockade & inspection nearby umm qasr port/irak....here, stevedores are carrying long knives & currently they are cutting the lashing belts of cars, instead of usual just slacking down wherever else... i worked 4 years as chief mate on board of such type of ships. otherwise, all is pretty nice here...

they strap the front of the cars, but i see no straps in the back, what keeps the cars from creeping forward into the next car ?
@joshuacornell66678 жыл бұрын
You do not hear it due to acoustics and other noise but the eBrakes are applied, just watch how cars ride in the Amtrak Autorack, they are eBraked but not tied down and nothing gets damaged much as you think. The way they tied down in front is not hurting the suspension an does help with excess sway and pitch. Outside in big waves it may seem like lits of movement but inside the ship its not that excessive.

@l33thck10 жыл бұрын
All depends o car manufacturer. For "normal" cars, like those on the video it's just few centimeters, but for let's say Rolls Royce is 1 meter all around. I heard a story (not sure if true) when a car of Queen Elizabeth was shifted from UK to USA, one whole "hold" was usef for only her car. That is approximately 30m x 30m...
@geirolje9 жыл бұрын
Desert Fox One hold on this vessel is approximately 230 x 30 m...
@geirolje9 жыл бұрын
geirolje This is not a pure car-carrier, it's a ro/ro-vessel designed for bigger and heavier cargoes than cars and therefore has more height and volume on each deck than a pure car-carrier. The vessel has 6 decks, but the 2 upper decks has extra 'hanging decks' than can be lowered which divide each deck into 2 holds making it suitable for car carriage.

how they're lashing this cars? only with front tires? anyone can explain? is that enough?
@Realasadabbas6 жыл бұрын
Shiva Manikkam you see those holes in the ground, these are the lashing points, when a car is parked the labour lashes it from all the tyres to the ground, the heavier the cars the stronger the lashes, for trucks they use steel chains

When you purchase a new car and you bitch about why you have to pay the freight charge, this is why. It's not free shipping these cars half way across the world, to you. Not sure why American manufacturers charge so much though? Their freight costs are not as high as Japanese cars.
