2 weeks dude leave them at least 2 months before doing this you will end up stressing them out and they will stop breeding and die. Trust me been breeding these for a long time now and i did it myself with first colony. I write date on the box and exactly every 3 months i sort them out and end up with thousands of babys. i'd recommend a minimum of 2 months though personally.

I think when they have a set up like using racks they will have heating pads in the back. Reason being why the put the egg cartons to the back of the container so they trap heat. I believe he's a gecko breeder and has a colony so that why he has that many racks, if you only have 1 or 2 you probably only need one rubber maid container. Search the roach farm, they got a nice tutorial for starting a colony.
@JoshuaBanks1211 жыл бұрын
you breed to feed!! Feed them to your geckos or your bearded dragons or even spiders. Dubia Roaches need a warm climate, are poor climbers making them a perfect breeder roach to feed your animals to save you money. If they did manage to escape, or rather you dropped one on the floor, they are slow moving and would not live in your house long enough to colonize. You would be safe. I have a bearded dragon and he cost me five dollars a DAY in live crickets.
@honnoand000112 жыл бұрын
no it does not...it is easier to do for simplicity purposes. For example, i have a tub for my adult colony and another tub for my nymphs. It is a lot easier to get the right size to feed my smaller lizards. also, the adults tend to breed better if there are not a bunch of babies with them..but if you don't need a large scale production, and just enough to sustain your personal reptile collection, then you only need 1 tub.
@milldabeast519dabeast910 жыл бұрын
ive bred dubias for around 10 years and i never give them a water dish. is that just for humidity??
@aaroncrousseau11 жыл бұрын
Well they aren't cockroaches, but I understand your concern. There is actually very little chance of them escaping as long as you are careful since they can't climb up smooth surfaces. Even if one does escape it's not hard to pick it back up.
@TheBoorisha11 жыл бұрын
Generally roaches are not percieved as cute and nice, but awful, disgusting animals. Poop is also considered at the very least nasty. Now it cannot be a good thing when you deal with both. It was kind of a lame joke, never mind..
@NotaGoblin9112 жыл бұрын
This is very helpful! I'm about to start a red runner colony for my Panther Chameleon, which seems similar to the Dubai roach process you show here. However I am curious why you separate the babies from the adults, other than easier cleaning purposes?

I have males but my other roaches are not as big as yours. Would they be able to have babies or do i have to wait till my females are as big as yours?
@TheRagnarok121011 жыл бұрын
Dubia roaches are tropical insects so they need a certain temperature to live so if some did escape they wouldn't live long enough to infest if you are living in a non tropical environment

I think the reason they do that so is you can keep them in a separate container so you don't have to dig them out when you want to feed them to your pets.
@JoshuaBanks1211 жыл бұрын
Dubia roaches have minimal smell. really don't smell at all. that's why people breed them. I have both. My Dog's shit that i pick up is ten times worse.

Best detailed video I've come across and your voice isn't annoying. Do you have any tips for getting over roach fear? LOL. I have a small colony right now and I cant touch them at all!
@jameswalls26963 жыл бұрын
If you are serious about the handling, I have an idea that may help you. Try using a pair of surgical rubber gloves to get you used to the handling. Nothing bad will happen and you can then possibly progress to bare hands (must wash them afterwards though) LoL. Fears can be overcome - just mind over matter. Give it a go and good luck.

Great vid bud! added! I've just bought my first 30 small nymphs to rasise up to be a breeding colony (thought it would be better to raise them well fed etc).... I have maybe an odd question, will my 30 be ok for a continuous cycling feeding and breeding colony, or will I need to add some from a different gene pool at some point?
