*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*

2001 Lemond 853 frame, I upgraded everything, carbon crankset, carbon seat post, carbon handlebar/stem, new 11 speed 105 shifting and a new saddle. After that a set of Campy Zonda wheels. She weighs in just over 19 lbs and rides like a dream. The 56cm frame fits me like a glove. Needless to say she is my lifetime bike!

@@ronbell7920 how do you fit a modern 11 speed group set with the frame? Is it possible or did you need to make the rear spacing bigger to accommodate the bigger cassette? Looking to get a 99 lemond that’s near my area and wondering if I could transfer my r8000 group set on it
@ronbell7920
@ronbell7920 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSpiritOfTheWest , I have not had any issues setting a 130mm axle into a 125mm spacing that was the old standard on a steel bike frame. Steel is more forgiving than aluminum and aluminum may not be able to handle this. Luckily for most aluminum frame bikes are built to the new standard, so upgrading is easy. One just has to lose the spacer that may come on an older freehub.

@@ronbell7920 los ejes de 125 mm son de los años 80's o anteriores, para mediados de los 90's todos eran de 130 mm.

Amazing bike. I still ride a Reynolds 853 here in the UK. They're very common. Reynolds tubes were produced for the framework for the Spitfire fighter plane during WW2. Gregg Lemond was a very decent rider. Went on to build some great bikes. I love this bike.

Well , I 'm 67 now gave up the mountain bike and bought exactly this bike . Well i could not be happier , it rides so smooth . I did buy a riser quill stem , and a easier to peddle rear gears. because the old owner was much stonger then me he had a close ratio race gear cassette . I have owned so many bikes old and new .Silky smooth and the ultega shifters still work wonders . but this is a dream ride .After just a fw mods for my comfort , I can't wait to ride it again and again .

I own a leMond Tourmalet from 2004 (the same year my daughter was born) with a brushed aluminium finish and green decals. Apart from the fact it looks beautiful it really does inspire confident riding. Highly underrated in terms of feel and the finish on the welding is the best I have ever seen on a bicycle. Mine will stay with me and hopefully, one day, my daughter will appreciate it too.

I love this. I have a '99 Zurich myself. Really is a beautiful bike and so compliant on the road. The Rolf wheels are a beast. Barely enough room for some 28mm tires but got them on there and this thing is built for all day riding. This is also the one I've cut my teeth on developing my meager mechanical skills. I'll never get rid of it.

Rode and raced a Zurich for a couple of years. Greg knew what he was doing in terms of frame design. I've never ridden anything so comfortable for hours in the saddle. Not a "quick" bike, certainly not first choice for criteriums, but for a long road race, very tough to beat! And Rolfs are great wheels! Bike wound up looking just great! Loved the video!

I just ran into your site today and made a comment on your red GT on how to bring back the original shine on paint using Maguier's Ultimate Compound, which you should do from now on after you clean the frame & fork. Oh yes, I love your videos. Anyways, I'm a mechanic and own my private pro bike shop on Mercer Island 5 min from downtown Seattle. When the pandemic started early last year, my shop was flooded with incredible, perfectly brand new vintage bikes that had maybe 5 or 10 miles of use. One of them was a LeMond Zurich exactly like yours complete with the original tires that still had that fuzz line down the middle. Most came from couples when they were dating in the 80s and bought expensive bikes to impress each other, and after they got married simply hung them up and never used them again. So when the pandemic hit, they thought about riding their bikes again and bought them to me for a tune-up. So for a few months, my place was like a museum, and vintage nuts would come every day to see what was new. Ahhh I love bikes.

Nice to stumble upon this. I had the exact same bike - 1999 Lemond Zurich with Ultegra in white - and loved it (also replaced the saddle and added Cinelli Spinaci bars for additional hand positions). I really liked the geometry as well as the classic good looks. Kept it for 10 years, until I went carbon with a Specialized Roubaix, and recently a Specialized Creo. Wish that I’d held onto the Lemond, though, especially after seeing your beautiful restoration. Hope your brother really enjoys it.

This was a bike I was considering in the late 90s... I bought a Bianchi Veloce instead.... the Bianchi was a 9s speed originally, then a 10 speed (two 10 speed builds) and now an 11 speed Campy Potenza in 2018. It has just shy of 70,000 miles. Looks pretty decent for that mileage. The 853 is a very nice frameset. I want too many bikes. 43 people here ride carbon fiber. .

I just bought the exact same year and color a couple of days ago. Just needed some minor clean-up. Also have a 2001 Zurich and 1998 Tourmalet. All great bikes!

Fantastic video. I did a clean up on a similar bike last year, no where near as in depth, but was so satisfying
