Road bike shifter problem

Say what? A shifter called Micro New? Had to open to replace gear inner. There is a hole on the side where the cables is supposed to slide out, but it doesn't. The cable head is in an enclosed pocket like in a Shimano Recon shifter. So I broke off the piece of plastic that keeps the head in place.. Now it slides out
