I actually had a conversation with Patrick here in Albuquerque. Somewhere around late 1995. Literally just saw him meet up with a friend in the parking lot of my local theater. Patrick was in town for the arabian horse show they used to have here. He was big into buying and selling horses in his spare time. Anyway, he was meeting up with a friend from the show to take them to go see Three Wishes. Anyway, as I was walking by and noticed who he was. I asked him, being a martial arts nerd I've been my whole life what his thoughts on Bill "Superfoot" Wallace were. Dude stopped dead in his tracks and we talked martial arts until he had to go. about 15 minutes. What I learned from that conversation is that dude DEEPLY loved martial arts. Guys knowledge ran pretty deep honestly. Anyway, had he lived, he totally would have loved following the MMA scene and how it's exposed that basically all traditional martial arts are complete bullshit con operations. That guy would have LOVED the evolution it's gone through. The guy I talked to, he would have welcomed a modernization of the movie and likely would have been helping promote it. The guy didn't talk trash. He was way too respectful of other martial artists for any of that.

@@jimapplebee5322 It was cool, totally random. I had only recently moved to Albuquerque and had no idea they had a huge horse show at the time. I went over to tell him how much he looked like him as a joke but as I got closer I was like "holy shit that's totally the guy". He was super cool about it. Really good dude. I studied Martial Arts from 6-18 and met a lot of traditional martial artists over the years. He had a really level headed approach to where American martial arts were at. We talked about how I had to quit Tae Kwon Do and take Kempo and American style kickboxing so I didn't have garbage hands. He mentioned a few arts he studied, I don't remember which, but we connected on how it was impossible at the time to find 1 art to make you a well rounded martial artist. Think you've got that theater vs home theology a bit off there.... Theater = big fuzzy screen, terrible sound, bed bug infested chairs, of which are also covered in hair (all kinds), fluids, solids, and sadly more... Home = 4K HDR screen, likely 55"-80" or so... far better detail, far better color, far better contrast, and far better sound too. As most are going to have sound systems, subs, etc. From there it just goes up with options, adaptive rear lighting, amazing seating, snacks that aren't $40+ each thing... from drinks, to candy, to popcorn.... Home's better in every way, but it's also where you're gonna see through bad cgi... if anything bad cgi is FAR more hidden on the big blurry screen. While someone else's body lice make you their new home...

However!...for me, it didn't have that family-vibe built between the characters like the original did. The original with Swayze broke the mould...It was by an era...With "The Original" you NEVER get bored of watching it...for an era. That being said, the ridiculousness of baddies getting severly beaten up/stabbed and "literally" coming back worked in this CGI-Punches version, as you know what you're getting, and it doesn't have to take itself seriously...My childhood era vis the original will never be surpassed "in terms of its enduring staying-power over the past 35+yrs] but this modern version, with fantastic physiques to aspire to/the fights/the action/a scarilly-wild Conor McGregor...It's good...I give the original 1989 version an 8.5/10...and the 2024 remake 7.5/10....

The mercenary a small indie movie released in 2020 was the best original action martial arts movie I saw in a long time. It stars Dominique Vandenberg the guy who created the fighting scenes in gangs of New York and was a real life soldier of fortune and French foreign legionnaire in 2Rep

hollywood sucks. no new ideas. one of the great things about the original was the relationship between swayze and elliot. im glad they didn’t try to replicate elliots performance but still that was an important character moment for dalton getting pep talks from elliot including telling him to leave the stupid town. these rrmakes are horrible
@spiderpig97777 ай бұрын
I love that they did something completely different than the original..And it works for the most parts..Hope it gets a equal.

I kind of like the Patrick Swayze version better in that it had heart. It made you care for the Dalton character. The remake had good acting, actions sequence were decent. But it was missing something, in that I didn't care about the characters as I did with the 80s version.

I like em both, real campy, some corny dialogue, great performance by a tree named Fred. Didn't seem to take itself too seriously, I'd watch it again just like I'd rewatch the OG again.

The fact that Roadhouse is being remade is an indictment against Hollywood and the studios. They cant make anything new that's good. What's next? A remake of no retreat, no surrender?

Gyllenhaal is a legit serious role actor. Fact he can pull off action roles shows how great an all rounder he is.

Just watched it on streaming, had low expectations but actually found it enjoyable. No where near as good as original but Hollywood needs to make more movies like this. Low budget action films with over the top hero’s and villains!!

Action effects story etc are amazing. This guy doesn't know what he is talking about. He is right about one thing. It can't touch the original. But it wasn't meant to. This was meant to be a different story arc. Think multiverse. As a stand alone movie this was VERY good. Job well done.

What? The original is so bad. The script, the dialogue, the acting, the fight scenes, the plot, everything about that movie was straight garbage. It was a glorified B movie at best.

The blood, sweat, & tears he put into his body for this role, in addition to him just being a great actor, I can't wait to see what Jake does in this remake. Love the original, I just hope this one does nicely.

This isn't the Dalton from the first original, and I didn't want it to be... I was hoping for a fresh take on a great movie and I got that. I really liked his personality, always being nice, trying to help, (even the people he beat up). Feel free to listen to other's opinions, but just watch it for yourself and decide for yourself.

Saw this on Prime the other day, and yeah "direct to video" really paints a picture of where this movie needs to be. Gyllenhaal was not a great star for his roll, he seemed like too nice of a guy for someone who fights for a living, and even McGreggory had a goofy smile on his face the whole time which granted gave him the psychopath look really well just didn't seem to fit in right with the movie. There are some nods to the original, the waitress bringing him breakfast the first morning (no Jake in the buff though), there is a romance with the doctor but much more subdued in nature, even a nod to the "pain don't hurt" staple scene you felt was coming... but he didn't want any of that instead opting for a big bandage. I will say the MacGuffin for the movie of wanting to have a resort on the property and she is the last one to not sell is a bit better than the original where the guy was pissed because his nephew got fired. But in general none of the characters felt very memorable or part of the story really, there's the young girl at the book store who has like 3 scenes in the whole movie, there's barely a scene with one new bouncer he hires... "oh you have scars on your knuckles... ok you're hired!" type of scene, heck the owner of the bar felt like she was barely in the movie.
@gearzdesign7 ай бұрын
So I just watched this, and I found it actually entertaining. Gyllenhaal completely carries this movie, and McGregor was unhinged (as Jeremy mentioned). You have to watch this as seperate from the original, though. As it's own movie, it's a decent watch.

Didn't they say the "Roadhouse" can't be accessed by Boat which is why they unload Booze through the front? On a Dolly They mention that there's no reason for them to want it cause literally the land is useless for bringing stuff in, so how did the Boats smash into the Roadhouse if it wasn't the depth to be able to drive a boat up?
