Im not sure what engine setup you have but older alternators, especially fords, the issue is generally in the brushes. You can get brush kits for a few dollars. Might be worth seeing if your model has that and you can just keep a few with you. Fords uses a small torx driver to remove the unit you plug into. Safe travels! Loving the channel!

I have a 1995 Ford Powerstroke diesel pickup that I use as a tow rig and as my work pig. I have a tendency to take it to pretty remote locations too, and I always have anxiety that something's going to happen to it way out in the middle of nowhere. It's happened to me plenty, so I guess I'm really just waiting for the next time. Ha. This is exactly what patrons hope you'll use the funds for! It's to keep you on the road, doing what you love, and help to support you in content creation. If I'm honest, I'm kinda surprised the frankenator worked. I tried doing it once and it didn't.

Stuff like this makes for great stories - this is what adventures are about. Also, if you have a post office and an internet connection, you can get parts. Just have them delivered to the post office - it's called poste restante in French, not sure what it is in English, but every post office has this service for free.

Glad you sorted it out. I appreciate your resourcefulness. Don't apologize for living. All too often people seem to think that using profit from artistic or sponsored endeavors for personal expenses is some sort of miss management. I dealt with that mindset when I was making leather work for people who thought any charge for time involved was somehow milking them from their hard earned money.... That's not reasonable. No one works for free, so neither should you, and you still need to live. Glad you had the funds to overcome.

Weird breakdowns/repairs come with the territory of an older rig. I had to retire my mermaid (1988 Toyota Odyssey). Now I have my Seabreeze. Bigger, like yours. My dinette fell apart! That's on the repair list. It drives like a car except there's more of it. I'm happy you could make your alternator with what you had, a 'Frankenator'. Very cool. I was thinking about you & the rise in covid-19/delta cases. I said to myself, "You must be in the right places away from many people!" TG! Thanks for bringing the beautiful Canadian country to me. I'm in Northern California near the Oregon border. Hot and smokey from wildfires. I have an awesome view of Mt. Shasta with clear skies.🙂

This was an adventure video just of a different kind. You should get an enduro motorcycle with storage boxes to take to get parts to save on gas and in case you're stuck(also a little off-road fun), strap it on the back. At least you wouldn't be so stuck if your home on wheels decides it wants to stay longer than you out in the middle of nowhere. I'm surprised finding parts for that is as easy as what you said. Can you get emergency roadside assistance for that? If so it must be more than a regular vehicle plan, right? It reminds me of the Walking Dead's first season where they had the RV and the old guy knew how to repair it inside and out and taught the younger guy all about it shortly before he was bitten by a walker which was obviously going to happen. Anyway, it must be stressful having your home on wheels break down having another mode of transport may be helpful such as the enduro bike I mentioned.
@Destination_Adventure3 жыл бұрын
Really enjoyed this comment. I have a faint memory of that Walking Dead story, and that’s a fun comparison. I really would love to have a dual sport bike. Hopefully that will happen in the future, but for now it’s me and the Gnarley Davidson lol.

Life on the road. One thing we changed up when we began our RVing adventures is our BCAA membership. We've always had BCAA, but we added the RV plus to it. That way our RVs are covered for towing etc, even in the US. I managed to lock myself out of my motorhome in Port Alberni's Walmart, with the engine running and my cat inside meowing her head off. I'd taken the dogs out for a pee and the coach door locked when I slammed it shut. Oh, and my cell phone was also inside. lol! Someone leant me their cell phone andI was able to call BCAA and they came and unlocked the door for me. BUT, if I didn't have the BCAA RV plus thingy, they wouldn't have! If it was a car/truck/van -sure. As a sometimes solo female traveller it does give me (and my husband) peace of mind.

Before you head out, it might be smart to take the motorhome to a mechanic for a checkup. That way, if there's anything else fixing to break on it, you'll be able to address it before you leave civilization. Just make sure you find an honest mechanic. A dishonest one will invent problems to rip you off. Also, as several others have already mentioned in the comments, it's a good idea to have an extra fuel pump, water pump, and alternator, as well as extra belts with you. Good luck with your journey and thanks for the videos.

That’s awesome brother I do automotive electrical make sure to triple check your connections your main charge connection on the back of the alternator as well if you have a plug check to make sure you bring a flashlight whatever make sure look at the plug where the pins go in and see to make sure there’s no arcing happening more times than not I’ve seen where The receiving end of the pins In the plug somehow via vibration or whatever they become loose and arcing happens which causes basically a brown out if you will in the alternator and sometimes in the control modules in the vehicle
