One observation from my own experience using Speedplay (old before the buyout) is when I bike commuted all the time, the wear point is the cleat. And I would wear the cleat of my left foot (non-dominant foot) waaaaay before the right. the cleats are not interchangeable, and the Speedplay cleats are at least 3x more expensive. I switched back to Shimano and have been very satisfied!

I started my clipless journey on Sampson Sakae and then Look pedals. Back in the late 1990s, during my "weight weenie phase", I heavily invested in four pair of Speedplay titanium X-1 pedals. I'm still using the same sets today. Needless to say, I've hoarded X-Series cleats and other hardware to take me to the conclusion of my cycling odyssey.

Been a Shimano user for many years. Swapped to speedplay last year and never looked back. It’s so much easier and faster to clip in. It accommodates to my very specific needs for float / foot corrections and adjustments. My foot ankling on speedplay suits be better compared to Shimano.

I feel like we need one more pedal system: I currently use Look on the road road and shimano on my MTB and gravel bikes, but I feel that on gravel I wish I had something that would combine the slightly better walkability and dirt resistance of MTB with the power transfer and feel of a road pedal. On top MTB pedals are super heavy in comparison, but I feel like on Gravel I don't need them to be as rugged.

He was doing great until talking about the platform and float. Speedplay had always said their platform is not the pedal but the cleat. As for float, you can adjust the float on Speedplay pedal and also the angle of your feet.

I really like time xpresso pedals, you good good float like the speedplay and solid platform like the shimano ones!

You get used to any system you choose… Ease of getting cleats that are way cheaper-shoe manufacturers as stated make far more 3 bolt cleat ready shoes. It’s shimano and it just works…the choice is easy. The best bike fitters will tell you the best part of speed play was the things they used to be able to do to speed play pedals…but that’s gone now since wahoo purchased them…that being said-I love my wahoo computers.
