Over a decade ago I bought the DW6000 Series hardware. Maybe a year after I bought my hardware Ludwig came out with the Ludwig Atlas flat base stuff. Wish I had the Ludwig stuff.
@NickCostaMusic2 жыл бұрын
You and me both, Jayme! I feel the DW is lighter, but man was it difficult trying to make it all fit where it was supposed to. This new atlas classic stuff is no joke, and I'm so glad I made the switch!

Nice video Nick. I almost want to get some of these but my issue is mounting the toms on the cymbal stands. However, that cart you use definitely looks like something I could use. 🥁❤️

Great video, this looks like a better version of the flat based re issue hardware is coming out. I have a Gibraltar flat based hi hat....I used it once. The feet were in the way of everything.

That's exactly it. This is the revamp Ludwig just released a couple months ago. Adapted flat based hardware so the feet don't get in the way anymore!

Hey Nick, great video!. I assume that's the kit you restored in an earlier posting?. I have decided to own a Ludwig kit before I die (big Joe Morello fan) but was torn between DW flat base and the Ludwig stands, especially the Speed Flyer pedal too, but you have swung it for me with this. Difficult to judge from pictures online, your close ups answered any questions I had in detail about the general construction, I have no worries now after watching this, it's Ludwig all the way. Thanks for posting.

Hey, David! Yep, that’s the kit I restored here on the channel - good eye! Great to hear this vid helped you decide to go with the new classic flat base hardware. It’s sturdy, sleek, and paired with the speed flyer - you can’t go wrong! Appreciate you checking out the vid, and enjoy your new hardware.

Fellow Philadelphian musician here - thanks so much for this review! I recently went through your series where you were restoring that 1967 downbeat kit. I have my dad's 1968 champagne downbeat kit that I'm going to be cleaning up a bit too, so thanks for the tips and walkthrough in that series! Between that restoration and this new classic hardware, I'm pretty excited about the setup! Would you humor a question about finding old Ludwig hardware? I'm missing parts from a cowbell mount and a few parts from a kick drum mounted cymbal stand that I'd love to get replaced on this kit. I believe you said in the other video that you reached out to Ludwig during your restoration - are they pretty receptive to folks reaching out about vintage hardware like that? I doubt that they'd have much laying around, but I wonder if they are at all helpful in sourcing parts like that.

Hey Cody! Appreciate the kind words, and thank you for the support. Couldn’t agree more - the new classic hardware with the 68s worked beautifully and looked great. Sounds like a killer project on your hands. Ludwig currently makes some components that are similar specs to the vintage - like the 1.9mm hoops (60s hoops were 1.6mm). Check their parts catalog to see if they make the components you need - www.ludwig-drums.com/application/files/7314/6531/8346/AV1453.pdf If they don’t, your best bet would be to search Facebook, eBay, or reverb. There are some Ludwig drum collector pages on Facebook you could post a parts request to. Someone on the page might have what you need. Hope this helps, and maybe I’ll see ya around town sometime ✌🏼

Do you know the snare drum stand height please. Snare stand height is a major issue with most manufacturers light weight stands. How this one would do the job. Thanks for the info!

I didn’t measure, but I can say that I was able to adjust it to the proper playing height for me - and I sit pretty high up.

What rug is that that you're working with?

It's an old rug I had since high school. Not bad - has weighted edges and the built in blocker so the kick doesn't slide - but that can get in the way when trying to mic the kick.
