This movie is very much underrated. I definitely like the era the soundtrack is phenomenal. Paul Newman was a legend not only in films, I used to go to lime rock Connecticut racetrack. I would see Paul Newman that man knew how to drive a race car he was fast was lucky enough to meet him in the pit area 🇺🇸🌞🏄♂️

Brilliant second film for the highly talented Sam Mendes. In my view Oscar worthy. A wonderful example of the mastery of art direction and cinematography. Thomas Newman is the don of haunting and evocative movie themes. Mendes used him before. Tom Hanks , cast against type, a terrific performance as the gangster Michael Sullivan A must see movie. Not given the kudos it so richly deserved.

I watched this at 14 and ive never seen it since, yet it remains one of my favorites. I loved the soundtrack at that time, and now, 14 years later, I came to listen, and it hit me. THis song basically puts you in the emotion of the young boy in the movie. Its his feelings, pain, sorrow; yet somewhere deep inside, hes learned to live with what's happened. No hapiness, not contentness, just letting go and not caring, and moving on. Not forgetting, but forgiving. Such emotion behind this track I will need to rewatch this movie soon. Tom hanks is top 10 all time for sure.

Listening to this in August 2019..The best theme ever x
This film so resonates to me about my relationship with my Father, god rest his soul. One line in the film that has stuck with me. " Sons are put on this earth to trouble their Father's " My son is 3 and when he grows up, I will give him all the love and support a Mother and Father should give. I will wait till he is older to watch this movie and let him decide the moral of this beautiful cinematic masterpiece.

This masterpiece pulls at the heartstrings in so many ways, with such depth, with such endearing poignancy, with such beauty, such heartbreak, such soul force, and with such a sad yet sublime yearning for that which was, and that which could be, along with that which may come, in this lifetime or the next. Breathtaking and otherworldly, everything about this movie was flawlessly crafted and tied in together beautifully, even seamlessly, while its largely haunting, lovingly solemn and serenely meditative score will go down as one of the most amazingly ethereal, and altogether emblematic of the overall human experience, of all time, touching all the right chords, hitting all the right notes and stirring all the right emotions, deeply moving as it is, all that heartfelt longing, all those mystically primal and haunted sounds, atmospherically evocative and soulful as they are, all of that resonates with sadness and grief, with love and longing, all while giving rise to this renewed and promising hope, the type of hope that breathes new life into the human spirit, and allows it to endure, to go on, freeing it from those last vestiges of despair that had held it down for so long. That is what this magnificent and deeply stirring score, and ultimately the entire movie, means to me, my personal feelings, my own particular journey in life, my more tribal and primeval Irish sensibilities, those whom I feel for and love, all my memories whether good or sad, all of that sacred and heartwarming spirituality that rises up from deep within, and my own unique and inimitable life experience, all of that together, as a whole, and how I feel about things and past events, brought forth powerfully and poignantly by this beautifully rendered score, along with this movie steeped in gorgeous, layered perfection, as parts of this movie are somewhat reminiscent of what I've been through and experienced (the sadness, regrets, loss, thirst for vengeance, the final redemption and drive for loving reconciliation). This rare beauty that remains unsurpassed.

For me, :25 mark transitions to a place that I feel like we can all relate to. It reminds me of the feeling when you accept that you did not succeed at something. It is a very humbling moment in life. That we can't control everything and every outcome. I find peace in this song and around the 1:00 mark I feel like its saying its okay to fail. Get back up and keep moving. Life will go on, and it's too short to dwell on shitty things.

PRSouthern, in my humble opinion, it's not that we, nor Michael Sullivan don't succeed, rather we, with eyes wide open, chose the wrong path to walk down whereby there is no succeeding until you confront yourself and see how devastating that decision was and try to retreat from that if it's possible. He made some choices whose prices were too high for him to pay and he SAW THAT when his time ran out and yet, he STILL had a boy to try and be a man and a father to.

PRSouthern I understand and feel exactly what you said. I feel the loss and the acceptance but I also feel hope. If something as beautiful as this could exist then there’s always hope.
