That was one of the most honest insights to a pro athlete I have seen. The fact Tom had so much self doubt and he is the second strongest man in the world is so important for people to see. Unreal to see that Dan and Luke had to get toms head right. Really enjoyed that one. Hell of a team and can’t wait to see the lads at worlds!!

Yeah, really who is going to laugh at someone with that strength and power. Idiots who have never stepped in a gym with a fake personality on the Internet are the only ones that critique someone with the skill and strength of any of the men that compete in wsm or any high level competition for that matter. I and I'm sure 99.9% of the people commenting would dream to pull even 250kg for a couple of reps let alone anywhere over 300kg.

Such a shame to see Tom struggling mentally. No doubt one of the strongest men in the world and an excellent deadlifted. Luke has gone from strength to strength with his deadlift and Tom has done the same with his log and now his Hercules hold. Can’t wait for Tom to find the switch to get past whatever it is stopping him and winning that title!

What Tom said about the mental fatigue is sooo relatable. I'm not a strength athlete, but I'm autistic, and the mental fatigue can kill my ability to do even the most basic of tasks. I loved seeing Tom smash out those reps the next day! I'm sure that bad training session, and crushing it the next day is a great learning experience for Tom. I think he needs to be very mindful of his mental energy going into a competition.

One of the reasons Tom is so impressive to me is that ASD often comes with coordination issues. Even after training extensively your form can break down and cause you to miss a lift or even get injured. I'm also ASD and have been lifting for 30 years and I still experience this. On top of that, when it happens your brain can get in a negative feedback loop like what was happening here I think. That can make it even worse and your form breaks down further and then it's a circle. I think it's amazing the support system and positivity Luke and Dan have with Tom and it's perfectly illustrated here. Luke helping with getting rid of negative thoughts is so amazing and exactly the way to help. Both brothers are super inspiring. And then 5 reps the next day like they were light as a feather. Great work, Tom!

I was so emotional watching this, as I know how fking hard the deadlift technique is when you get heavy. Tom was inside his own head , but he couldn't ask for 2 better people to help him and tbh, if I was Tom, i'd get on the phone to Thor and ask his advice, as he's similar height to Tom and his record in deadlifts is awesome. They are mates, a video call between Luke Tom and Thor and Dan would be a massive mental boost I reckon, but then what do I know. I just love watching these brothers training.

This whole series has been absolutely amazing. A few weeks ago seeing Luke have a not so good deadlift session to now, that improvement in his lift and his own thoughts towards it are huge. Same has been with Tom and his log - been immense. Shame to see big Tom have a bad day, but they happen - better to have the bad day in the gym a few weeks before than when it counts in California. COME ON TOM! 💪🌶 EDIT: Had not watched the full video 😂 straight back the day after and smashing the 350kg for 5... awesome. So interesting hearing about the mental side of things and how that can affect a lift/session, and how both Luke/Tom benefit from different cues & styles to get themselves firing. SPICYYYYY!

I always find that these cues help me activate everything on my deadlift: 1. Hamstring curls and hip thrusts before warmup 2. Turn the elbows out to tighten lats 3. Roll the bar slowly as I come down until the bar is tight enough to me and my body has absorbed the momentum before coming up. 4. Leg pressing off the floor. For me I always had trouble with 1 and 2 and those 2 cues have helped me the most IF and WHEN I actually remember to focus on them haha. When I do remember, they have been my best lifts.

honestly this video was amazing and truly helpful.especially now that i want to start competing again and seeing where i was compared to what my numbers are now mentally drains me.but watching yall over come bad days of lifting helps me get past my bad days and helps me understand like "hey its okay just keep working dont give up.

Great stuff Tom! Training programs always have there ups and downs but after you’ve overcome a down phase you get another boost to push on and improve even more! The difficult moments lead to progress!!

Both of you have gotten stronger and that can be seen from your videos. Everybody has some shit days, getting over that and smashing in the next time is whats important. Tom did exactly that(in a short period of time as well) and hardcore respect for it. Both Luke and Tom are incredible athletes, brothers and positive human beings in general. Dan is not your typical coach, unconventional from the outside however he understand a whole lot coaching wise and mentality wise as well. He is a very very good coach and they make a good team. Good luck guys!

Amazing! You guys really do inspire. That was a very tough bit of training, and Tom got through it. That's building strength onto strength. It can be tough like that, but he got through it. And the next day, well you can see the improvement right away. Amazing, as I said.
