We are planning a trip for New Years. Do you think my 17 and 20 yr old boys would enjoy St Augustine? What are some other great restaurants?

I grew up in St.Augustine and would go to Saint George street all the time as kid and play in the field outside the fortress every one would sit on the walls or on the lions bridge on the Fourth of July to watch fireworks.

16:42 Matanza actually means slaughter or killings for the plural. Red bugs (chiggers) would live in the moss and the Indians would steam them to remove the red bugs. Pizzatime on George St is much better pizza. They even import the water to make the dough from New York City.

Loved this tour of St Augustine.....you should do one at Christmas as the trains do a tour of the area with the most amazing display of Christmas lights. I have ever seen.. on a side note one of the people driving the train got too close to the cars on the street and knocked off the side mirrors on about 6 cars as she drove through the town...don't think she works there anymore...lol! Love Nikki..her smile lights up the day!

My family moved to St. Augustine in the early 1970s. The downtown tour trains pass by my house. Unfortunately, the area is jammed with tourists 12month/yr. No break from the rush any more. Everyone misses the important fact that the tiny downtown area is surrounded with lovely neighborhoods with real families living in them. We pay hideous taxes to live downtown & It's like living on Main St. in Disney World. Plz pick up your trash and share the sidewalk with the locals. And stop honking your horns at stop signs. Pretend you're a Southerner and be nice.

We hear you! Thanks to Instagrammers, our once quiet street turned into a touristic attraction of major proportions. They now come year round to snap a picture on front of a house where a mediocre movie was filmed in the 90's. Apparently, it became millennial nostalgia! Even though there are no tours or access to this house, it doesn't deter them from coming. It's a private residence, but they do not respect the privacy of the current owners, who are an elderly couple, and go into their property to get/post the best pictures. I even saw some one climbing a tree in their residence to snap a picture. They walk in the middle of our street in droves (who uses sidewalks anymore since it's all about them), violate resident permit parking restrictions because they are "only going to take a picture" (they do not realize this goes on all day) and are throwing trash on the sidewalk. We are on our own because the city is loving the millions it's raking in from tourists so the towing warning is not being enforced. What adds insult to injury is that we pay high taxes for our house and often can't park on front of it because of illegally parked vehicles, mind you our house does not have a driveway. We had purchased our house when it was a quiet neighborhood, that's why it is really ridiculous when you think a group of millennials acting irresponsibly have transformed our quality of life in a matter of years. And yes, we will be selling soon!

St. Augustine is the oldest city founded by European explorers. Oraibi, located in Arizona, was founded in 1100 by Native Americans and predates St. Augustine by 465 years.

St. Augustine is generally regarded as the oldest city in the U.S.A. It is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the country. St. Augustine was founded by a Spanish admiral named Pedro Menéndez de Avilés in 1565, and it was the capital of Spanish Florida for more than 200 years.

Best kept secret for a trip in Florida. Just keep out the hoards of Chinese tourists. Not many places left that don't have overcrowding of Chinese tourists.
