Timing chain guides, The M117's (And M116) like most of the V8's of the Era have that particular failure point usually through lack of knowledgeable maintenance and servicing. The chains themselves are very durable and rarely break or even stretch bit the chain guide wear and become brittle. Hopefully if she wasn't run in that state too long a guide set (Upgraded materials) , Chain and sprockets with the usual oil change and flush for shiny bits and she will be alright especially with a low mile ending like that. Bought a few C and R 107's and W116's with that exact issue dirt cheap and never has to replace an engine and the K Jet injection will live forever and is even computer controllable by adding a Frankencis WUR which waked them up nicely :-)

My late mother owned a 1976 450SL that she bought new. When my dad passed away, keeping that car running became my job. Oh lord what a chore. Her German auto repair guy kept begging me to buy mom a newer Mercedes. That car was a high tech wonder in 1976 but after forty years it was a real bitch to fix. When she died I gave it to the realtor who sold her house for me. It's a damn sexy car all these years later but......

uh whitewalls? I think it is the perfect summer driver convertible. Your wife will be pleased! You are lucky to have two master mechanics at Omega they will make this thing purr like a swiss watch. Will this model year have the smog items or not? The bumpers suggest European delivery? I love the expensive factory alloys too. Great car to cruise up to Omaha or Kansas City.
