Great job on the quick concise rule overview for a pretty complex game. Also love the humor in your videos , good shit.

As a french canadian, the name Barrage is sounding good to me. (most of our electricity come from water/hydro generated by "barrages") It is very true that the component quality is subpar for a 100++CND game. We are talking about peeling cardboard, flimsy quality... and dont crank me up on the machine (grey and brown bits) that are too small in single unit. Same thing with the 1 credit tokens... too small! On the other hand, it is a heavy euro that is not buried under a f* tons of rules. Like water, the game is pretty streamlined. On the other hand (am I a 3 arms guy?!?), you can have a strong runaway leader if you didn't thought about your first couples buildings placement. In conclusion, as a solo player, big recommendation if you are more into gameplay than into quality of the bits.

It never occurred to me before, so I looked it up: BARrage (like "baggage", but with a bar) is a dam, which bars the waterway. As opposed to barRAGE (like the Indian Raj), which is a bombardment. I have never once heard anyone pronounce this game correctly! Should've just called it Barry and been done with it.

Just gotta point out that placing a worker on the space that allows you to access another players executive action doesn't count as your turn. You effectively take another action with their bonus for the cost of one extra worker (or one worker and 3 coins)
@BoardGameBollocks2 жыл бұрын
Not sure I follow. If you’re using a worker then it counts as your turn does it not?

Really torn on this one. The theme and mechanics look great and the artwork is nice (strong Brass vibe and I have both Lancashire and Birmingham). The potential spoiler here is the production quality for a game costing the thick end of £60. I, too, read that KS backers were not too happy either. With a few tweaks to the production quality this would be a no brainer for me, even if it would be one of those rare-to-the-table titles that I would have to be in the mood for. To that end it would occupy a place similar to Brass, but Brass with its clay chips is just bloodly lovely even when you are not playing it.

I really like this one. Components are a bit shoddy but it’s the prospect of an exhausting experience that puts me off playing this one. Once you get going that’s fades until the end.

This game is incredible on Board Game Arena but I had a feeling it would be more punishing on the table. I think that's probably true based on your 4.5 hr game! A solo game on BGA takes me 20 minutes...

it took me a moment to focus on video to grasp the mechanics but it was easier than Arc Nova - so it must be the game itself that is demanding - especially since it's the kind where you actually follow up on what others are doing and have to react to it and possibly even predict in advance

Played this when someone suggested it was similar to Brass Birmingham, which I really like. Then, I played it and it left me a bit underwhelmed. Yes, it feels like a euro with a lot of player interaction, but contrary to Brass, I felt that the board was quite difficult to read and that it was very easy to make stupid decisions. I'm not the brightest bulb, so I didn't really want to go back to this game again. Anyhow, I like your content, but I can't watch your next video on Tuesday, Wednesday also fine?

Played Barry once so I can’t say my opinion is fair, but I found the theme dull. Making electricity power.yay.😶😶 I also found it over complicated, I didn’t like the fact that the wooden components were weird cement mixers 🙄 and I felt lost in terms of any strategy as just knowing what to do on my turn was hard work. I don’t enjoy games that feel like work. I also don’t like the stress that someone else who knows the game better can screw your over. I found the art too dark and now you’ve reminded me how flimsy the card is. Castles of Burgundy does have theme for me…I’m building cities, extending farmland, getting silver from mines, getting trade goods and cash when I venture into the shipping. And I love the simplicity of the the rules so lacking in Bowelrage, Barny Barry Barrage. Not for me. No.

I have no complaints about component quality. The only issue with components is that cement mixers and excavators with value 3 and 5 could have a number on them, so that is easier to understand what value are these.

So, it rises above SLEUG level by strong theme and player interaction and seems a clever design but the idea of playing 4 hours of constructing convoluted flowcharts to achieve victory points seems like water drop torture to me. (the view of the box side said 120 minutes but I infer that was as usual a lie). I will stick to Dos Rios I think.

AFAIK "Barrage" is an English word that means "Dam". So it is not an inappropriate name. The Kickstarter by the way had worse components; the water was represented by these little glass beads - even with good fingernails they were difficult to pick up, so you were reduced to pushing them around the board. And I remember the rotating construction track was annoying because the inner part was always popping out of the circle. Still, an ok game if a trifle overlong.
@BoardGameBollocks2 жыл бұрын
It’s actually borrowed from the french Barrage (barrier). I just don’t like the way it sounds.
