Both Tuomas and Floor have said that they are "high sensitives". They are in fact empaths, and that is not an easy existence for anyone so cursed and blessed. You get the best and the worst of everything unless you develop a strong enough filter. Floor is a world-class, high function, full duplex empath. THAT's how she sings her self, her heart and soul right into ours, and she does it whether it's a live performance or not. This is her super power. The audience is hers every time she performs. If she does not make you cry, if she does not give you chills and goosebumps, then you have no soul.

The inexplicable emotional reaction... I feel that. I don’t understand it but some songs seem like they reach deep inside my soul, grab the deepest emotion that wants to stay hidden, but the song will drag my feelings, kicking & screaming, to the surface until they overflow & I’m just a passenger along for the viscerally emotional ride. Definitely one of my top few bands of all time. I’m excited for you to really get into the newest album. Unfortunately there’s very little in the way of live performances due to the rona. Great album. If you want a lengthy emotional ride, sit back and listen to the second half of the album. I cry every time. The music doesn’t need words.

I think the reason people love Nightwish so much and get these INTENSE emoticon while listening the band is because it awakens something inside of us that we don't know or can't tap into other times. Tuomas has said many times his biggest inspiration for writing his music is his own wondeful childhood. And I think he has learned somehow to channel our inner child emotions, thats within us all, and thats why we feel so intensly when listening Nightwish. He brings our own little child on us to the surface and we feel intently, as children always do. ❤ Man I love Nightwish, Proud to be a Finn for sure!

The solo piano bit right before the end of the song gives me chills. Every. Single. Time. Tuomasgasm? I can relate to the inability to listen to Nightwish at times, because it hits me similarly. I have to be in the right frame of mind and in the right environment to listen to Nightwish without it completely wrecking me emotionally. And even then, it's probably a good 10-20% chance it will wreck me anyway, depending on the song. Nemo was the first song I heard at the time it was released. I got into the band in 2003-2004, and found everything I could get my hands on as a poor college student. When Once came out, I immediately picked it up. This was the first song that I had to play on repeat from the album, and can sing every line by heart. The rest of the album is absolutely fantastic, and I'm not sure I can actually label any song from it as my favorite, but this one has an extra nostalgic pull that the rest of the album doesn't have quite as strong because of that early connection I made with it.

I like to see that I am not the only one who always gets excited with each nightwish song .. I am a hard metal head like you, but when it comes to feeling the music, nothing similar happens to me with any other band .. When I need peace and clean my soul nightwish is always the best option... I understand you, in my life Nightwish imposed itself as my favorite band without even realizing it ... Over the years, and thousands of bands listened to, of all genres ... I'm not afraid to say that Nightwish is in another totally different league .. it's true that when I want something more technical I start listening to other types of bands .. but I don't have all those moods and that magic that nightwish gives me ... that crazy balance full of contrasts. .. Nightwish is like sitting down to read a book, you need to prepare, relax and let yourself go, it is not just something to listen to and pass the time ... it is like watching a movie, and it is fun and it is even unreal that this is live even better ... that puts them in another league.

I'm finnish and grew up with metal, and rock, and Nightwish. My parents raised me and my siblings listening to metal. Nightwish and Tarja hold a special space in my heart even though I wasn't even born when Tarja was still in the group. Everytime I listen to nightwish tears come to my eyes thinking about the nostalgia that comes with them. You probably know the song "Phantom of the opera" which was performed the last time with the original members of nightwish on October 21st 2005, also the last day with Tarja in thr group. Well after 18 years Tarja and Marko reunited to perform "Phantom of The Opera" just two days ago on 08/07/2023 in Switzerland, and oh boy was I bawling my eyes out. Just like you mentioned in the video that Nightwish has had member changes that were not dissapointing. I agree with that but the original members just hold a special place in my heart. First off, Tank, Awesome review! You're a rockstar, man; no question. Hearing the two versions back-to-back like this, I found that the version with Floor doing the vocals felt... I dunno... "darker"? More "dramatic"? I mean, she could have gone full operatic style to emulate Tarja (she certainly has the ability to do so), but she didn't. She did it her way; while still remaining true to the song. Absolutely beautiful! Also, the vibe from the crowd came through in a big way. I think this is Floor's first Huge festival with the band (please correct me if I'm worng) and the crowd accepted her instantly! And that is a beautiful thing to witness. :)

That depends on what you are watching. The End of Era recording is not typical for Tarja. She was very sick during it so she's less energetic, wasn't breathing as well, and wasn't moving around as much. Towards the middle, she ramps her energy down even further to recover for the end of the show. A second thing is Marco was the band's frontman after he joined even though he wasn't the lead singer. It's a bit weird, but notice how Marco often introduces songs during this period even when he doesn't sing in them. He also gets the crowd hyped at certain points when you think Tarja would doing it. She did it very well before Marco joined. It was the band's decision, not Tarja's, but she went along with it. Still, the End of Era recording was low energy for her even with Marco as the frontman. If you are looking at this era, compare it to Floor who is undeniably the frontwoman. That said, it's best to check Tarja out before Marco joined or after she left Nightwish. You'll notice the difference in crowd interactions, how Tarja moves on stage, and pretty much everything. She's a great frontwoman. Below is the full Act 1 concert from 2012. It is a great place to start because of the quality of the recording. She sings 17 songs the first day and ten more the second. The 17th song on the first day is "Over the Hills and Far Away" (a Nightwish one), which is also the next to last song on the equally long End of Era recording. This makes it a pretty fair comparison. The Act 1 performance is pretty much typical behavior for her. Watch the End of Era version after and you'll see how much her being sick dragged her down. She has the crowd sing part of Nemo earlier in the show, too. kzbin.info/aero/PLfLNKgCSZf6lYUWFVtfh7WqyCZVFp7MQN

It's even been on MTV and Viva when they were still airing actual music and not rubbish reality tv like they do now. That's even been so long with me, I sang this and "Two for Tragedy" as lullabies to the girl I was babysitting as a teen (yes, I know, the second might be a bit morbid, but the melody is pretty tranquil and calm and since I'm no native speaker and neither was or is the girl, I figured that was just about okay). I was then introduced to Nightwish for the first time in my life and what a rabbit hole I fell into lol. I am not surprised you got so emotional with this song Tank at all. I still after all these years tear up with this song some times especially near the end. Perhaps it has to do with what this song is about? the word NEMO is a Latin word which means no one, or nobody, and its about a time in Tuomas Life when he felt lost and/or without direction hence the phrase "Nemo my name forevermore". What ever it is, this song is filled with intense emotion and its fantastic. Your reaction to this song ... is by far my favorite thus far. :)

I think this is primal emotion that isnt about self indulgent reflection like a lot of music is these days, its escapism, its actual tears of joy.
@kultti58174 жыл бұрын
Basically what Marko said was "Hey! There's the guy who wrote the entire song, Mr Tuomas Holopainen" while stumbling on some of the words (Edit: He probably was trying to say "Kirjoitti koko biisin"). And yes NW is definitely top 2.. right after that band that has Ruslan Alanen on lead vocals.

I agree with the "Hey! There's the guy who wrote" but then, during the next two words, he does some funny stuff with his voice. I have heard that part many times and I even tried to slow the video down but still I have no idea what he was saying. But he definitely ends with "the entire song, Mr Tuomas Holopainen". So my best translation would be: "Hey! There's the guy who wrote XXXXXX XXXXXX, the entire song, Mr Tuomas Holopainen!" The second unrecognizable word sounds like "pyssyn" (= a gun) or "syssyyn" (=in one go/without stopping at all), but those don't make much sense either.

I listened to Nightwish briefly in my youth with Tarja as the singer, and couldn't wrap my head around her vocals. You said this one doesn't take a while to like, you're not wrong. This was the only song I thought I liked by Nightwish until I re-discovered the band a couple years ago with Floor. First time I listened to this performance, I also cried. No shame, sir.

It's just that, as a classically trained singer, and someone who speaks English well, Tarjas pronunciation of English words is appalling and distracting. It sounds like she learned the lyrics phonetically, and takes away any of the connection to them. I think the reason people love Floor, is because she tells a story and connects . She becomes a conduit between Tuomas and the audience to tell the story. Tarjas is more of a megaphone throwing words. This is coming from a long long long time fan, who tired of Tarja before end of an era. Just an opinion though

Some facts: 1))) On the album Century Child (prior to Once - the one in which Nemo is), Tarja said she needed to relearn how to sing in Nightwish and I believe that's because of key changes and the sweetness that Tuomas was requiring for those songs. You can check how radio friendly the studio album version sounds due to how sweet and instrospective Tarja's voice is actually sounding, definetely "easier" to listen to. She was never able to reproduce that voice live though, she always came up with full power and I always found Nemo a little off live just because of that (her pronunciation is also a little distractive here). 2))) End of an Era was recorded at least twice. On this one you can notice that all the slow motion and close ups are from a different version. Tarja's hair, movements and positions on stage are completetly different. I never knew how they could manage to do that and it's almost unnoticeable if you watch it only once.

I've got a theory about emotions from these guys. "caught the right moment" and it's about waken performance. Most of the songs from that gig filmed smart and the band is on the peak of everything (Imho. Floor is trying very hard and guys are just happy after a while of not so good shows and we just see and feel it through the screen) this concert is giant pearl for me, pure gold. But in End of an Era, there some songs that just hits me straight in my heart everytime: the Kinslayer (highly recommend) , the Phantom of the opera, Slaying the dreamer and High Hopes. Same thing - caught the right moment for them. Great reaction btw as always, woohoo from St. Petersburg, Russia.
