When they (media) asked Tuomas how he feels about having Floor as their new singer he said: "Floor is home." That says it all. She had also been in 2 other bands before Nightwish. After Forever and Re-Vamp. Nightwish knew her from festivals. They called Floor (on her sister's wedding day) if she wanted to fly to the USA and learn their setlist in 2 days so she could perform with them cause Annette fell ill during their world tour. I think the choice was easy when Annette left for good.

@@sniperbob1992 in the documentary "Please Learn The Setlist in 48hrs" they mention there was a flu going around the band. Anette came down with it to the the point they had to get a cover singer and had 2 girls from camelot fill in as the venue was already open and fans were waiting. Tuomas and Troy went out and told the fans they would either have to cancel the show or they could get a stand in. The fans were fine with stand ins and they went on with the show the best they could. I think Anette leaving was mutual but i do think her being hospitalized was part of the reason she left offically during that tour. Tuomas called Floor soon after and asked her if she could learn the setlist in 48hrs and go to Seattle, WA.

Wanna hear Floor (just a little) in another setting? "The Source" is the 9th studio album from Ayreon, a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. "The Day The World Breaks Down" is a song that features all 11 (well known) main guest singers [James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, Seventh Wonder), Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me) , Simone Simons (Epica), Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind), Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Mike Mills (ToeHider), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), Floor Jansen (Nightwish)] and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instrument are used and by what standards. Btw. The clip is 13 min. Long and I think you won’t regret it !! I'm really enjoying eavesdropping on your Nightwish journey! Your comments about the band's chemistry. the incredible musicianship, and the technical excellence of all aspects of the performance are spot on (I particularly like your expert insights on things like how the sound is engineered for each instrument's tonal quality). Nightwish members (all of them) have reached a point where they no longer have to consciously think about how to play their instruments (where and how to place their fingers, etc.) - for each of them the instrument is an extension of their body and THAT'S when truly great music happens and when the real joy and fun on stage begins. This joy and energy just explodes off the stage with Nightwish and the audience reflects it right back to them - and then Nightwish amplifies it and gives it back to the audience - and that cycle just repeats over and over again. Man, I really want to go to one of their concerts.

I CAN NOT WAIT to see these guys on concert. I honestly want to make a trip to Europe and see them over there rather than here, because I feel like the crowds would be a lot better. The entire Wacken show from that year is fantastic, one of those "i wish i was there" moments. Floor wasn't even officially the new singer of Nightwish at this time, she only joined as a replacement for Annette during the rest of the tour about 6 months before this. I say officially, but the fact that they decided to film it probably hints at it was decided, just not made public. Since you seams to like Nightwish quite a lot, you might want to check out the documentary "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours", it tells the story of the time around Anettes dismissal and Floor joining (even if it's a little weird in the editing since Anette refused to be in the documentary). And yes, the title is quite litteraly what Tuomas (i think it was him) told Floor when she was rushed in to her first show with Nightwish.

@korvkioskshelvete4 жыл бұрын
TankTheTech Good choice. TGSOE is one of the big three along with ”Ghost Love Score” and ”The Poet and the Pendelum”. You need to know background on the last one aswell. For TGSOE you should always pick the Tampere version. There is one with lyrics. It’s their most expensive performance to date. The song is about evolution. From the Big Bang until the end of mankind. It is beautifully narrated by Richard Dawkins (one of Tuomas heroes). The song shares it’s title with a book by Dawkins. Tuomas has studied biology and science. His other heroes are Charles Darwin, Carl Sagan and Eugene Shoemaker. The entire album ”Endless Forms Most Beautiful” is a concept album about evolution, with TGSOE his most advanced composition yet. Their new album ”Human. :|: Nature.” is like a sequel to EFMB and is a concept album about humans and our planet. Both albums are very cinematic and has elements of celtic folk music (Hey Troy!). But you should begin with the songs from Wacken.
@Amaranthos24 жыл бұрын
@@TankTheTech Yessir good man on holding off, TGSOE and Poet & the Pendulum are like the peak culmination / core heart of the band and therefore of us, The Army, as well. Much research and experiencing their other stuff is required first xD Also fair warning, back to the whole "rockin" bit. While both these masterpieces absolutely do have very heavy melt-your-face-off sections...if you miss the lyrics you miss the experience, if you miss the background research you miss the experience, if you don't go into them like you're watching a movie instead of a "song," you miss the experience. These have been reacted to a lot already, but there is a reason for that! They're simply so goooood. Nothing wrong with either going with the flow or selecting a different path, but please respect the stories behind the Poet and the Pendulum & Greatest Show on Earth. Those are massive and need to be appreciated to the fullest.

Wet eyes are the standard with this lineup...im pretty new to these guys ad well, but i think this is possibly my favorite band of all time. I've never experienced another act that makes my body do stuff ( wet eyes, goosebumps) that I didn't ask it to do... lol

Here is a random suggestion from honestly a nobody as far as Nightwish Creds goes but for another “left turn at Albuquerque” moment consider reaching back in the archives and pulling up their live cover of Pink Floyd’s “High hopes” I think you will gain an appreciation of Marko’s vocal prowess that might give you an appreciation of his skill before some of the other heavyweight performances of his yet to come for you. PEACE!☮️✝️💟

Powerwolf, Brothers of Metal, Krypteria, Xandria, Stream of Passion, Epica, Within Temptation, Ancient Bards, Blind Guardian, Suidakra, Seven Kingdoms, Unleash the Archers, Orden Ogan, Sabaton, Amberian Dawn, and Lordi. ...There you go, now you have the master list of non-Nightwish filler bands to last you the rest of the year. :D Don't let the word "filler" fool you either, every one of those bands is legit in their own right. I think off the top of my head maybe only like...one or two of those are American based? Either way, it's all stuff you'll never hear elsewhere if you don't react to it yourself here. Lookin forward to the journey man 🤘 Edit: most all of those also have little to no other reaction coverage either, so that's a bonus ;-)
@TankTheTech4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Thanks for that list. Some bands on there I already know I want to react to, and I’ve only heard of a couple of them. Did an Unleash The Archers video yesterday, and believe it or not, I’ve known about and listened to Lordi for quite a while now. Haha.

Storytime is probably, in a very positive way, their most catchy song, together with Ever Dream. A nice contrast for the next reaction would be „Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean“ from Buenos Aires or „Yours an Empty Hope“ from Wembley. If you like an extraordinary great song that isn‘t reacted to as much as deserved: „Weak Fantasy“ from Tampere
@danilolapierre56102 жыл бұрын
For me, NW's most catchy song is "Nemo" but "Storytime" has an amazing drive. Just makes you want to bang your head from start to finish. A different dynamic have folk influenced songs like "I Want My Tears Back" or "My Walden" which just make me wanna dance like crazy.

Real talk - as someone who's life is essentially music, whats it like discovering all this new stuff that you vibe with out of nowhere
@TankTheTech4 жыл бұрын
It’s honestly crazy. I think I’ve spent so much time touring and working for bands that I’ve been so focused on the music I NEEDED to know, that I haven’t taken the time to discover new bands. A lot of the music I’ve been listening to is stuff I discovered from like age 12-24, and nothing new since then. It’s really blowing my mind that there is SO MUCH music to discover. I love it.
@incarsus4 жыл бұрын
@@TankTheTech same. reviews/reactions have actually led me to discovering a lot of bands in the last couple years. UTA, eskimo Callboy, Motionless in White etc. At some point when radio went away I just sort of started to ignore music I think.
@TankTheTech4 жыл бұрын
I can’t even tell you the last time I attempted to listen to the radio. Early/Mid 2000’s, maybe? I’ve been making my own playlists since I first got an iPod. Might be why I haven’t discovered anything new. Hahaha

@@TankTheTech Nah man, even if you had been listening to the radio this whole time, you still wouldn't have heard anything new...radio is where trash music goes to die and get rerun for two decades a pop >_>

I did hear Kai tell in a interview somewhere that of all the song, the middle drum part of this song was the hardest to get perfect when he became the drummer and was practicing the songs.. (he knew most already because he already was a drum tech with them for a long time)

As senior guy (41) living in Germany, I must admit that yes.. I saw Nightwish live... (Summerbreeze multiple times).. but this wacken Show... yeah.. there is some reason for taking this live version for DVD.. awesome performance.. you said phenomenonal.. you are quite right :) And yeay.. Flore is awesome on this one :)

Gotta go "Yours Is An Empty Hope" to hear Floor do something pretty cool (because she can do everything). If you want to hear Floor with another fantastic symphonic metal band called Epica, look up "Sancta Terra" w/ Floor. Great heavy song with 2 outstanding leads who blend wayyy too well together. Enjoy your journey my friend!

Tank when this whole covid is over, go see Nightwish. They are incredible and they usually play small venues. They are America's best kept hard rock secret.

Pity their new (now postponed) tour has only an alibi US leg - LA, NY and one new date at Lowell MA (why ever there) - with the anouncement that that's it for at least 2021... The last tours like you said each visited a fair number of cities everywhere across the US. Strange.

Hey Tank, just to touch up on what you mentioned regarding Floor's time with the band.... on this venue, she wasn't even an official member of Nightwish, but she sure as hell earned it on that night!! The universe was aligned for ALL of them, but especially for her. Great reaction as always, loved your comments. And yes, requesting "Song Of Myself" next. 😊❤🤘🤘

The amazing part about the whole Wacken 2013 show is Floor only had about 6 months to learn All of these songs and she did it all while finishing out the Imaginerium Tour. I was at the show in Denver the night Anette left the band. That night all the vocals where sung by Elize Ryd (Amaranthe/Kamelot) and backed by Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy/Kamelot). The next show in WA they had Floor on set.
