In principle all intersections with traffic lights should also have signs indicating who has the right-of-way when the traffic lights are out (of course, if the rule is meant to be right before left, than you don’t need signs).

9:12 This traffic light with the green metal arrow is like the traffic light rule in the USA, you have to stop, you can turn right, but you have to give way to crossing traffic. At the electronic traffic light on the right you can drive directly as a right turn and have the right of way, if the big traffic light were green then all vehicles could drive out of the lane.
@steemlenn8797
@steemlenn8797 Жыл бұрын
More correctly, the metal arrow allows turnign right on a red traffic light if ther is nothing in the way. It adds a rule. The light arrow is just a traffic light where they saved on the red because there is no extra lane for turning right. (Also less confusing because normally one lane, one light). No rule is added.

In case of combined traffic lights (main 3 lights + green extra light) you can make the turn if the green extra light is on and main light is red BUT you have to check that there is no traffic because it doesn't give you right of way... It only indicates that you can drive if there's no other traffic... You only have right of way if the main light is allso green... On the highway if there are any kind of continuous stripes on the road then you can't drive over them (only in case you have to overtake very slow vehicle you can drive over them) but overtaking is okey if there are "short stripes" (I don't know how is it correct to say in english😅) It is allowed to overtake the other vehicle if it is safe (in most clips in this video these overtakings were not safe)... Allso you are not allowed to accelerate more than legal speed limit... (At least thats how it works in Estonia)... Most of the EU is more or less the same (basics are the same but there are some slight differencees between traffic laws in different EU countries)...
@dnocturn84
@dnocturn84 Жыл бұрын
@@tugboats79 "You only have right of way if the main light is allso green..." No, a traffic light arrow that turns green, gives you right of way when you're turning right. The red signal is only for turning left or going straight. You don't have to check for traffic coming from the left, because the guys on that side will have their lights turned red. Their lane for making a turn left might have turned green at this point, that's why this arrow for going right has turned green for you as well. The passive green arrow sign works as you explained. It is basically a Stop sign. You are allowed to turn right when red, but only if there no one passing through, because you would be without right of way. Just like the rule in the US. But it requires a none-lit green arrow sign in Germany to apply.

@@dnocturn84 Like I told this is how it works in Estonia because the cars coming from the left in this case can allso have a green light... Right before left is not really in the hierarchy. It is a rule for streets with the same rang. When there are traffic signs, the streets don't have the same rang. There are pproblably no crossings with traffic lights when both streets have the same rang. It seems to unimportant to have traffic lights on such crossings. It might be on 4th in the formal rang but you will never have to think about right before left when there arer traffic lights. There will always be signs when the traffic lights are out.

@HenryLoenwind Жыл бұрын
@@helloweener2007Not quite right, right-before-left is outside the hierarchy, yes, but it can happen even on traffic-light controlled junctions. For example, that someone turning left on a "no arrow" green light has to yield to oncoming straight traffic is because of right-before-left. Right-before-left applies always if there's no more specific rule in place.

Not really confusing if you think about it: Metal green arrow: is mounted permanently so can't be changed according to traffic light cycles so you have to stop to see if the crossing is free Light green arrow: is connected to the traffic light system so it's guaranteed to be only green when others have red, thus you have the right of way

To be honest, that Road Rage is nothing compared to one, that i saw on a other channel. The submitter drove in a construction site and couldn't go any faster, but had one car was tailgating him, giving him flashlights and tried to "push" him, so that he drives faster. When the construction site ended, the road splitted into three lanes and the submitter drove at the middle one and couldn't change. For the car behind him, that seemed to be reason enough to overtake him, cut him off and when the submitter honked, the other car began to slow down until complete stop. Still on the middle lane on the Autobahn! Two guys then stepped out of the car, came to the drivers and the passengers side and tried to beat him up. Only because he locked the doors, nothing really happend. He had everything on Dashcam and when those morons gave up, he followed them and called the police. When the police catched up their car, they went straight to the prison until their court case began.

Ryan, When you are driving on the Autobahn, the Left Lane is "ONLY" used for passing. You pass a car and then immediately get back into the center traffic line (the right lane is where the trucks have to drive). If you have some tourist who thinks he can keep driving in the Left Lane while he drinks a Big Slurpee, and yaks on his cell phone, the driver in the Left Lane who is behind him, and wants to pass, will blink his headlights to let the front driver know he wants to pass. People passing traffic in the Left Lane, pass and then immediately get into the center lane again to make space for a faster car coming up behind him so that he can pass without hindrance. People driving on the Autobahn may be traveling at 200 KmH. In 1957 -1963 I regularly cruised from Koeln, north to Hamburg or south to Muenchen in my 75 HP 356 Porsche convertible at 160 / 170 KmH.

For context: Depending on where you live in Germany, you may never experience such situations as shown in these Dashcam videos. I often watch exactly this channel (DashcamDriverGermany), but still don't experience any of these crazy situations in my daily driving life in Germany. Again, it may happen - especially in very traffic intensive areas - but typically we Germans really do follow the traffic rules ("Straßenverkehrsordnung" = StVo). Because of that, driving on the Autobahn typically is very uneventful and most stress comes from minor stupidities of drivers, who for example keep driving on the middle lane (rather than switching to the right lane, when possible).

In general you are right. But I'm surprised. Each time I drive on the Autobahn, I see a mass of middle lane snails, tailgating, brake checks, I'll be cut off, lots of lane changing without have a look, I'm pushed away from my lane, overtaking on the right lane (this is forbidden unless the traffic is slow) and overtaking without being much faster as the one to be overtaken (at an unlimited speed section). In my hometown Berlin ... it doesn't matter if as a pedestrian, on bicycle, car or public transport. I see any of these examples in the vid daily. Blinking has also fallen sharply out of vogue. I once was on a Tram which hit a bus. I think I've seen everything. @Ryan: Once you asked for the "dutch" door opening: Take (as the driver; right-hand traffic) the right hand to open your door because automatically you have to twist your torso and more or less automatically have a look backwards and see what's going on there. warm regards

If you are from germany then I am slighty shocked because what you described is not what had been described in the video According to the original video it was a bike lane so that was not the issue. The real issue is that the cyclist not only was on the street and then went onto the bike lane, so they ran a red light going onto the bike lane, but that is apparently also a one way bike lane, so they were riding in the wrong direction. Also the bike pushing only applies if its a pedestrian crossing. If its a bike lane or combined bike+pedestrian crossing you don't have to push the bike.

7:45 I'm not from Germany but from Finland, but of course it's legal to overtake when it's not forbidden (with solid line and/or sign), _and when it's safe_ (no oncoming traffic (too close) at the moment. It's not feasible to build multiple lanes just about everywhere, and if overtaking was illegal, other drivers would get regularly stuck behind slow vehicles for several kilometers at a time. (But I guess the issue here was actually about different meanings of dashed lines in the U.S. vs. elsewhere.) 9:40 Green arrow light (at the same level as the normal green would be) means that going to the arrow's direction is specifically allowed. The non-arrow red (and yellow) cover the rest of directions. (Permanently installed green arrow at the height of the red light apparently means conditional right to go to that direction, so after checking that there's no conflicting traffic. So, kind of as if there was a yield sign.)

There's a general rule in Germany of no right turning on red lights, with the exception of special cases where a small green arrow sign is attached next to the light. Or you have an additional lighted green arrow light to allow for separate right turns. In those case there's usually a separate lane for right turns as well. In all other cases NO right turn on red. The green arrow SIGN is considered a STOP sign, so you first have ti stop at the line, then slowly advance forward so far until you can check the intersection to be free of traffic and safe to enter. On a green street light arrow to the right this is treated as a green light, indicating that others crossing your path of travel notmally should have a red light, ie should come to a full stop. Bike paths without special bike stop lights always have priority over cars. So when you have a stop sign plus a bike path you are normally obliged to set back your car if you are blocking a bike's way on the bike path.

Also dont forgett the pedestrian lights 😊 arrow in the light says, you have no others crossing your way Last one a not so much spectacular last meter exit driver, because exits mostly spawns to late 😂

the long german text said something like: i was driving a similar vehicle for 10 years as a professional driver. never have i ever forgotten the loading ramp. after 9 years the company changed a lot and the job got annoying and stressful and then it happened to me - (forgot the ramp) the was a sign to quit the job. that not a small thing. thats 2meter of edgy metal potrodung behind the vehicle. if you hit a car with it, it will be slashed like a warm slice of cheese. i better dont describe what would happend to a pedestrian. a lot of those vehicles have a lock so you cant start with the loading ramp still open. but not all.

9:37 Its not s stop sign, and it does only count when the electric signs are turned off /e.g failure, construction work, damage This sign indicates, that all other cars from other directions have the right of the way. As a German you learn to slowly approach this sign without stopping. The green electric indicator removes all other signs then turned on. So when you get a green light for turning right, you can drive, because all other ppl have red. When the indicator is made from metal / non electric / permanent, then you can turn right after stopping, no matter what other signs says.

If it is presentable that there was tailgating, and a emergency braking took place, the rear ender will not only get 3 months driving prohibition, but also 100% of the crash fees. Then there is another fee for tailgating.
@arthur_p_dent

Yup - unless the guy in front breaks on purpose and with no need, it would be 100% fault for the guy behind. Tailgating would earn him a heavy fine and a 3 months driving disqualification - at least. In the case at hand, I would suppose he might also be tried for coercion ("Nötigung"), with a licence suspension for at least 6 months (but probably much longer) and up to 3 years of prison on the table.

I like you watched this episode of dashcamdriversgermany - I love his calm mood and voice.. he also gently describes all the failures.. And funny: I just watched this episode yesterday. 😊 There are some other channels or maybe in other episodes of this channel you can see some allmost deathfighting scenes between the people, when in description some roadrage is pointed.. here it was just the first scene with three m between the two cars on the Autobahn at 180 km/h.. The most music you can hear is a recorde from the radio in the car.. yes we hear all types of music in germany.. even cool Dr. Dre. 😅 By the way the guy who is commenting the scenes, he is maybe from NRW (Nordrhein-Westfalen) with a not so bad 'Dialekt' ..but the transcription can't get it right although yet.. and yes he is talking normal speed. So thank you and take my recommendation for this channel again, I like it pretty much. If you want to see worse roadrage and carcrashes you have to watch 'Fahrnünftig' for instance. 🎉

6:29 at some traffic light it´s also legal in germany. But there have to be the green arrow pointing left and you have to treat the arrow like a stop sign. It´s a well liked trap in the exam for your driving licence.
@KevinFeegers
@KevinFeegers Жыл бұрын
@ryanwass Running a red light is very unusual in Germany. There are exceptions, of course. The penalty for running a red light (stopsign too) is the suspension of your driver's license (at least for three months). There are also red light speed cameras at many traffic lights that recognize when someone drives over red and gets a nasty letter directly by license plate.
@arthur_p_dent
@arthur_p_dent Жыл бұрын
It's not that extreme - the typical punishment is a fine, 2 traffic points, and a 1 month driving ban. You can escape the driving ban, but only if the light has been red for less than 1 second and nobody was impeded or endangered as a result of you running the red. On the other hand, it can get much more severe, eve earn you up to 5 years in prison, if the red light running imposes a great danger on someone's life or property (315c StGB). At any rate - that quasi-automatic 1 month driving ban does deter red light running quite efficiently, for the most time.

7:45 street has one lane each direction and overtaking like this is perfectly ok if you as the overtaking drive don't interfere with oncoming traffic, which is why usually don't over take when I don't have a clear view across the whole estimated stretch needed to complete the maneuver, especially when I sit in my work lorry (up to 40 T) I don't foolishly overtake. brake-check is a no no !

In Germany and Austria or probably most of europe its illegal to turn right on a red light. that's why sometimes you have this extra signs to indicate that you're allowed to turn in this direction if it is green but the main light is still red. in this case you would have been allowed to turn right, but not left and you would not be allowed to go straight until the Main light turn to green.

yes DashcamDriversGermany is the best Dashcam Channel for this reaction. 2:17 The signs with the traffic lights combined at intersections are quite normal. If the traffic lights fail, everyone knows how to behave even without traffic lights. 6:48 This is a construction traffic light. It is set up when, as in this case, the roadworks make it difficult to cross the carriageway or the carriageway has to be narrowed to one lane.

9:44 Isn't that the only way you can go anyway. So why is there a red light? It is a T-Crossing. You can turn right and left. The traffic lights on the green might be green and the ones on the left red. So people coming from right can go straight and turn left. With the green traffic light arrow we can turn right there because we won't get in the way of the cars coming from the right. But drivers who wants to turn left would, so the traffic light is red. You can only turn right at this phase. When the traffic light is green you can turn left and right.

At 3 Meters with 100mph there don't need to be a crash you lose your drivinglicence for a very long time. at 7:40 - passing was ok but not hit the breaks for no reason just on front of the car he just passed. and yes - all these are the wrong-doings where somebody did something wrong :)

Traffic laws in the US are pretty much the same as the German laws I reckon. The only major difference I'm aware of is turning right on a red light. In Germany you're only allowed to do that when there's a green arrow next to the red light.

8:03 If the German police see you running a red light that has been active for more than one second, you will be fined, given penalty points, and banned from driving for one month. If you accumulate too many points, you will have to prove your driving ability or lose your driver's license. The fine is 200€, and I think you can roughly estimate that would be about $600 in the US, compared to income of 1:3, not exchange rate close to 1:1.

There's no default right on red in Germany. If there is a SIGN with a green arrow (not very common, you see it in the video), you treat it like a US right on red. Stop, look for traffic, drive if no traffic. The scene at ~09:00 is from a previous video and shows a LIGHT with a green arrow and some people confused it with the sign and said the cammer should have yielded. In Poland a LIGHT with green arrow has to be treated like the german SIGN or the US right on red.

3:00 It would have been the fault of the car car behind 3:40 passing is allowd but only if there is enough space on the other lane and no car is coming up or you know there's enough time before the car you might see is at that point. 7:35 yes it's legal to pass but only if the car in the front is driving slower than the speed limit. Than you're allowed to pass within the speed limit. But what the blue car doing with breaking him down is illegal. Passing is also not allowed if the white lines are without the gaps so if it's drawn through.

7:57 is kind of a running gag in the german "React to Dashcams" YoouTube scene... one of those reactors, a driving instructor form Berlin, calls people who do not obey the "Sperrfläche", the angled white lines, a König (=King). It is forbidden to drive on them, except for the "König", because the König is allowed to drive where he wants. Thus, all people who do this are called König, and I have started to see more and more clips in the past months, where the drivers already call those guys a König!
