It’s not where you go. It’s what you leave behind . . . Chef, writer, adventurer, provocateur: Anthony Bourdain lived his life unabashedly. Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon. From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?), this unflinching look at Bourdain reverberates with his presence, in his own voice and in the way he indelibly impacted the world around him.

He was my favorite person to watch. He appreciated food, culture, and travel. Modestly, and with raw emotion. No acting. I miss traveling with him. Although I wasn’t there with him, he made me feel like I actually was.

It still doesn’t feel like he’s gone 😢 It feels like I almost expect him to pop up in this documentary at some point to unflinchingly comment about his life and death with his bold wit, his clarity, his self-depricating humor and his deft turn of phrasing. The publisher of the book published about him after his death, they were kind enough to include my tribute to him in the book. Whenever I get discouraged I re-read the book or watch one of his travel shows again, for inspiration 🙏 Can’t wait to see this film!!!

Commonwealth Club of California had him as a speaker. What he said, plus a Q&A, is available as a free downloadable podcast. I have it, and I’d listen to it over & over & over while walking or commuting while I was feeling down while working abroad. I recommend all who enjoy listening to Tony to look it up and keep it. 🧡

@@andreflavell2689 You still thought outside of the box though to do that. I know people who have lived on boats, some of them because certain situations in their life pushed them into that. But as a result, they ended up having some very interesting lives! I understand how you feel about Europe, it is an amazing place. Can you sail there? That would be quite an adventure! Maybe that would get you there? But either way, no place is perfect, and even Europe has some incredibly boring places too.

Thank you, AB. I feel that your life serves as a beautiful parable-reminder that there is NO amount of intelligence, charisma, good looks, fame, fortune, success, travel and luxuries which will EVER fulfill the deepest desire of heart -- to fully realize and experience that we are NOT our thoughts. We are love itself. The greatest adventure is the truest intimacy we seek which is to see everyone as no less than our very own self. Our inner demons are not caused by anything outside of our own mind and therefore, nothing the world provides will address it. Having exhausted the four corners of the world and doing things no one has, it brings home the painful reality that the answer is DEFINITELY not in the world. To think and believe it is in the world you arrived at the inevitable conclusion, "There is no happy ending." You live on as an inspiration to many hearts. #grateful for #anthonybourdain.

Several years ago, my toddler niece ran up to Anthony while in her father's restaurant in Cupertino, clinging to him and calling him "Daddy!". The hotel's restaurant was empty at the time and from behind, with the salt&pepper hair, he resembled her father. The look on his face of a strange child calling him daddy..... My sister told me this a few hours later and I couldn't believe that I was so close to having the opportunity to meeting him and that it really didn't mean that much to them in my opinion. Such frustration! He really was such a unique character. I've met President Clinton as an ambassador of my command when he was my C.I.C. and shook his hand, but I'd be more proud to say that I got to meet Tony.

Bourdain was a troubled soul who took life by the throat and seized the day, carp diem! The thing that so many didn't realize not even his own mother who said "He was the last person I thought would take his own life" oh really?, he made reference to killing himself in both his best selling books, "Kitchen Confidential" and "Medium Raw"! In another video on KZbin one of his best friends master chef Eric Ripert tries to get Bourdain to start meditating and embracing Buddhism like Ripert did, but Bourdain refused to! Like Bourdain said, Eric had a far worst upbringing than I did" but the Buddhism and meditation saved Eric Ripert who was once an alcoholic as well! Too bad many didn't listen to Bourdain and too bad he didn't take Eric's advice before it was too late! Everyday people will miss him esp. his close friends and his own daughter! He had everything to live for! Sad ending to a complex life story, may he rest in peace
