I do the same thing, but I use a cheap blue tarp from walmart or any store I can find them that is normally about a 10' x 10'. I drive the bike onto it so I do not need to worry about the bike sinking as much and I place spikes about the middle then fold it back to the bike which covers the bike, leaves end that drape and keep me dry from rain also. The tarps are cheap, easy to fold, double as gear cover during riding as needed and easily replaced. Another tip is on cold nights, start your fire, cook your food, dig a slight ditch and place coals in it then cover with dirt and replace your tarp. this will warm the ground and you for the night. I also do the same with planet fitness or use truck stops and creeks, but those are really always cold baths. lol

I've been doing something similar but I use a 10x20 tarp I run over the end just use 2 stakes then up on to bike. Looks very close to what you did. Twice I had to start bike as it was raining hard and got very cold that warmed me up nice. I also got a thin roll of screening to throw over ends as bugs tore me up one trip. Great videos glad I found your channel your a good man.

The main reason you set the tarp up opposite to the kick stand is...... So that it saves your bloody life, 😂 If the kick stand sinks in you’ve got a 500lb bike landing on you in the middle of the, and the last thing I need is to have the bars stake me to the ground. Must admit your one of the very few who set it up this way👍All the other dummies do it the wrong way, I use a 3x3 tarp, lay the tarp out, roll the bike onto one side of the tarp, weight of the bike anchors it down, stake out the tarp at the midway points, then fold up and tie of to the bike, plus point, it’s very easy when it’s very late in the day, AND the heat of the bike keeps me warm until I fall asleep, really appreciate you sharing this vid, thanks, take care👍😃

I agree. I use a Wolf Camper Python tent. Setup in two minutes max and room enough for me and all my gear. Inside it's stays dry even with heavy rain showers, and keeps the creapy things outside. Offcourse you never sleep on the low side of your bike, if you don't want to be crushed by your own bike. I use also a old aluminium toaster for under my sidestand.

From South Africa... Wrong side of the bike, pull against the side stand. To maintain stealth, use the "Dakota fire pit" principal to cook on, when it get's real cold, reach up and switch the bike on. Was doing this in the 80's for many trips. What I would do is on approaching a town, I would scope out a hidden spot, go on into town, eat at the roadhouse / little resturaunt, keep half, do the "major"ablution"thing After dusk make my way back to my scoped out spot, zip in, hunker down & munch the rest of my dinner. An indicator globe, a piece of twin flex and 2 croc clips make a fine ext. light. Once I broke with my protocol, and zipped in after dark.... Found a nice spot on some cut veldt grass????? cut????? Woke up in a rural cemetary. With our indigenous beliefs in the ancestors ETC, recon it was, unwittingly, the safest roadside sleep I ever had. I maintain to this day, I slept like the dead! Anyhow It's the best ever roadside stealth camping by bike....... Regards to the dog.

I would go with the poncho roof its waterproof and packs smaller. In fact two one for the roof and one for tying the poncho liner in as a bedroll.
@jeepinbanditrider7 жыл бұрын
The quilted liners are actually made to be used as a sort of blanket. They aren't really meant to be wet or used as a waterproof layer.

Yes using with a poncho about doubles heat retention and certainly makes it more waterproofish as far as a bedroll type setup.

Adam is on the money here. Churches are normally a safe space. Places like Red Mesa gas station about 150 feet from the main building allow it. Just go inside in the morning and 'pay the rent' by buying something, and acting in a kind way with the people that work there. In Kansas at rest stops there are signs saying one night stopping is legal, and 2 weeks ago in Kentucky when I asked about a safe place to nap, the on site staff there encouraged me to lay out my sleeping system, and sleep as long as I needed to. Pretty awesome. They spent the night posted up as security on my bike while I slept well. Just setting up a simple sleeping system like this lets people know it is very temporary. I've been all over the US and Canada, and never been bothered or told to move on.

You have your tarp set up on the wrong side. You always want to sleep on the kickstand side of the bike its a lot harder for it to fall on you on that side, waking up to a 800lb+ bike falling over onto you is not a great way to start the day!
@adamsandoval7 жыл бұрын
The key is to set up you bike on ground that is level, then there is no chance of it falling (unless the kickstand sinks in soft ground, But then you still want to be on my side.. always set up off the high side, for rain and safety
@theranger21857 жыл бұрын
I have seen many a bike's kickstand suddenly decide to crap out and the bike crashed to the ground. I would rather not wake up to that happening to me. Thus i agree the high side is the safest place.

@anywhereness80175 жыл бұрын
Please never do this. As a long time moto traveler, I know that motorcycles get tipped over at night, and sometimes not on the non-kickstand side. If you fancy the idea of your handlebars coming at your skull with the full weight of your bike behind it, then go for it. I for one will always advocate sleeping in a away from your bike's tip area, even if it does weigh a few grams more
@nobodysreview61374 жыл бұрын
Thats a good point, a huge dear or something could push the bike over, i was thinking more like a drunk hillbilly comes riping through a field in a 4x4 drunk at 3am. Oh well, if this guy really does travel an sleep like this, theres a reason us rational people r siting at home.

Adam Sandoval Rides. I too have slept many a night under the poncho tied off the bike. Or off a tree. I also in summer prefer a hammock when a tree pair is around with a poncho over me for rain/dew. In the east, when summer hits the hammock gets you out of the critter treks, especially ticks and chiggers. Ride On man!
