Cracking video Frazer! A tarp is all we need :)
@motohobo5 жыл бұрын
Ah, takes me back to 1976 and my Suzi GT500. I used to use large industrial rubbish/dustbin bags. Sometimes with a tarp set up similar to yours. Friday evening head off to the coast. Norfolk, Suffolk or Essex. Would just pull off the road by the side of a field or lay by, hop over a gate and settle down behind a hedge out of sight. Usually we were only a few minutes ride out of town so it'd be up, roll up the rubbish and sleeping bag, strap it on the bike seat and head down to the sea front and find a cafe for a huge full English while waiting for the pubs to open. Happy days. My bones wouldn't like that now I have to say. I still do a bit of minimalist camping but I have to have a thermarest mat or similar. When you opened your little stove and said you were going to try cooking with candles I thought good luck with that,haha.Tried it before myself. That was a great video, mate. Brought back loads of happy memories. Thank you.

Thanks very much, I'm glad I could rekindle some happy memories. Sounds like some great times, I'm picturing it in my head right now 👌. All the best to you!

Well over here in Aussie it's a mere 32°c perfect for minimalist camping,
@kidda745 жыл бұрын
Fair play for trying the most minimal setup especially in uk autumn. I reckon with just a few more extra bits you could turn it into a much more comfortable camp. 👍

I smiled through this entire video. You do get yourself in a pickle don't you. It was quite dark at times, but it is dark at times, so...You even made that look fun. Thanks for showing us camping, warts and all. Merry Ann from Minnesota

Loved the idea of supporting the tarp with the bike. I am gonna have to try that sometime. If you are looking for other places to camp in the new forest, I recommend the green lanes near Nomansland and Hamptworth. Very few people and lovely scenery. Loved the video mate

That looked like a cold and uncomfortable night - although nothing like the freedom of getting away from it all on the machine! I think if it had been me I would also have slipped a hip flask of scotch into the tank bag!
@motorbikeway5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! A hip flask sounds like a great idea, and probably would of helped with the cold and uncomfortable nights sleep. All the best!

Not sure I fancy that open ended tarp set up particularly if the wind n possibly rain suddenly gets horizontal. Great idea for the guaranteed dry days.

It definitely needs a few modifications (2 more sides and a zip) 👌😁. Thanks for watching!

Always test cooking gear before you use it. On another note, I have tested (in my back yard) a similar setup with my hammock, sleeping bag under quilt and a tarp. Just in case I cannot find two expectable trees. I have not needed to use it yet.

I'd have boiled the water as well, but a good video to help others who need it.
@huyked5 жыл бұрын
If that chlorine tablet is for a liter of water, it's probably just too concentrated for that little amount of water (less than a cup) that you had. 10:40 Holy moley. The colors (natural, or not) of the footage of the that sunrise was beautiful. Did the emergency sleeping bag make you sweaty since it seems the material isn't breathable. I think in that coldness, I would have slept in my motorcycle gear. :)
@motorbikeway5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The sleeping bag was relatively warm but very sweaty, my feet however were still freezing cold. After getting out of the sleeping bag it became very cold very quick. Good for survival but not for comfort. I would probably sleep in my motorcycle gear if I did this again. All the best!

@@motorbikeway Thank you, Frazer, for answering my questions. I will use that useful added information! :)
@viewsfromedsshed53565 жыл бұрын
Great video mate. I think the thing I'd change is, take my own water. Also, if you've pegged the tarp down, no need to park ya bike on it. Also, next time, put a foot long stick under each end of tarp, it'd give you more space in case it rains (possibly!). Other than that, its a great idea, its made me want to bugger off for a night. Ed

I carry a similar set up in my top box just in case the zombie apocalypse occurs while I'm on a trip,I'd boil the water if I had to drink from a still puddle .Interesting subject,always better to be prepared for worst case scenario rather than rolling up in a ball and crying for your mammy.

It was almost worth it for that sunrise, but too minimalist for me. However the kit was just about compact enough to carry around just in case!

Frying pan ditch.Go down to Aldi buy some nutrition bars and a small bottle of something to drink and it will take less space.We used to live on mars bars when camping back in the day.

Hello frazer, i always get a bit paranoid when i see the tarp set up against the bike like that. Aren't you worried some strong wind hits you the opposite side and brings the bike down on you?
@motorbikeway4 жыл бұрын
Hi, being completely honest, that's all I was thinking about through the entire night. Every strong breeze made me uneasy. I don't think I would do this again. All the best!

Surely having the bike the other way around would make more sense as you'd have the side stand inwards to guarantee it wont fall over on top off you ???
@motorbikeway5 жыл бұрын
I was torn on which way around to put the bike. I was thinking for practicality and comfort your way makes the most sense. After I tried a practice setup I was concerned if the side stand folded or snapped the bike would fall on me. Still unsure which way is best but I would like to try it the other way around. Thanks for your comment!
@Jaffa19515 жыл бұрын
@@motorbikeway You definitely did it the right way round. If the bikes going to fall it will fall the way it's leaning, unless somebody pushes it. It would take a very strong wind to overcome that lean.
