There are a lot of negative comments online about how people expect this car will do on-track....so I brought it to one!
As I drove this car, it was all stock except:
- Yokomo DP-302v4 gyro: www.avantlink.com/click.php?t...
- ReveD RS-ST servo: www.avantlink.com/click.php?t...
It is even running the stock tires...which the car does drive better on a set of Yokomo DRCs (www.avantlink.com/click.php?t....

Troy, I believe Yokomo stated themselves that the “stock” YD-2Z AC tires are DRA’s because that’s likely the surface many beginners will be driving on. But yes, switching to the DRC for your track (or period, since that’s the USDC spec tire and most of the competitions are held on p-tile and polished concrete) will make a significant improvement. I’m still in the camp of the Z being harder to drive than the S but in truth the Z is just an evolution of the S so in theory, it shouldn’t drive that much differently. The videos I’m seeing don’t seem to help the argument against the Z being any more harder to drive than the S. Anyway, glad to see more comprehensive testing of the Z chassis.
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Holding both tires side-by-side, the tires are not the same as DRA. The profile is different and the molding quality is different. Very interesting! I recently helped setup a S for a local kid (video coming out soon). It was MUCH easier to drive than this Z...but it is all alignment! I went over it, and they share MANY parts...but the stock alignment is very different. As soon as I mimicked that alignment on the Z, it became much easier to drive. I am dumbfounded as to why the alignment is different.

Honestly Troy, I’m looking forward to seeing how others are responding to the new RéveD RDX chassis that came out. The guy responsible for its development was a Yokomo Factory driver so I definitely hope one day we get to see it on your channel. Not anytime soon, mind because they just released and not too many people outside Japan have gotten their hands on them. But someday, I hope you get the opportunity to test one, even if it’s not yours.

Man this thinks looks awesome for an rtr. Definitely made for people that might wanna get into the hobby and not break the bank. I’m a noob to rc been in for a year now and I went all out and spent 1500 on a drift car lol. And to be honest I’m still not happy with it 😂 I’ll definitely be buying a Yokomo chassis and one of these rtrs for my son.

The chassis itself really is quite good! Please note that in this video the car already had a new servo and gyro (if I remember correctly), as the stock one fried almost instantly.

@@RoadsideRC honestly, my MST RTR is so good out the box, even with cheap stock electronics, that I can’t picture the RTR Yokomo being better. Also judging by the footage of you drifting both. I’d love to see you drift them back to back, but with the same upgrades (GYD450 plus RS-ST & same tires), with the rest of the setup being completely stock. Also it would be interesting to see how they compare to the 3 different ATR YD-2 AC versions… I’m not a MST fanboy btw, as I got a YD-2 ZX now, but RTR a 2.0 RMX is tough to beat.

Wouldn’t get these results with the stock Bobo gyro and servo. I remember the out of the box RTR had that crazy gyro wobble 🤣 I’m pretty sure most RC drift kits will perform good with a $75 Gyro and $120 servo upgrade like you have here on this car lol. Also the Yokomo yd2 Z can’t take any angle in the drifts. It shows in this video. Can definitely tell you’re avoiding high angle drifting. Also I would never run those stock Yokomo RTR No name tires on anyones carpet. The rougher injection molding area would tear up the carpet after a while.
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
Lots to respond to here... Sounds like you and I both would have liked to see the stock gyro on-track. I do regret not being able to try it more. It had such wobble because it was set to 100% gyro gain. Would love to know how it would have handled at 60-70% gain. The driving feel was good - just had that wobble. It might have been good! I see plenty of folks come through our track with thousands of dollars tied up in their cars...and can't make a corner. A gyro and servo don't immediately fix everything. Tires - the stock tires do have some funky mold marks - but they are just superficial. There is nothing physically there that would tear anyone's carpet up. This RTR is built on the YD-2Z chassis...and like the YD-2S and E before it, are great starting spots for folks. Claiming the chassis in general is not capable is just silly. You are correct that it doesn't like high angles directly out of the box. The alignment they included on this car is rather odd. Some time with a turnbuckle wrench will really help a lot. Which is unfortunate in a RTR targeted towards new folks. Hate for them to be discouraged before they get started - which is EXACTLY why I have a video coming out on how to better align this car!

I run 3800mah nimh in my Tamiya stuff, and we get 20-30 minutes of full throttle ripping out of them.. I got no issues with nimh stuff
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
To be clear - I 100% prefer LIPO, but folks really hammered on about how bad the nimh would be in this situation...and they were just wrong.

@@RoadsideRC I run NiMH in my RWD TT-02 convert and it actually likes the NiMH battery better than my LiPo. But I’m also running it with a final drive of 6.55:1 so my gearing is actually too fast for LiPo and becomes harder to control as a result. I’m playing around with my setup to hopefully get a car that I can be satisfied driving for fun. I will build another dedicated competition chassis later on down the road but right now, I’m just learning the basics and setup.

What drift tire is harder and softer? Asphalt and carpet tires?
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
Carpet tires are typically harder - trying to give up some of the traction gained by the carpet. As an example from the Slyde Factory drift day. We first tried Yokomo DRA (asphalt) - they were VERY fast. We swapped to DRC (carpet) and slowed the cars down a lot.

If that carpet is used like our raceway it gets rubber build up from foam and other rubber tires…. They tried drifters on it and said they picked up carpet fibers and started messing up the carpet….. so they don’t allow drifting…..
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Our hard plastic tires haven't hurt any carpet before - if rubber, I 100% understand. This carpet has never had any traction compound down on it - that is one key point. We tried to drift on a carpet track that had previously been used for on-road racing. There was so much traction compound down on the carpet that we literally couldn't drift! The traction was too high!
@joinslayer
@joinslayer Жыл бұрын
The carpet gaps were painful to watch. I think you would notice the original gyro and servo struggling if you hadn't change them.
@RoadsideRC

I am not sure, honestly. The original gyro certainly left something to be desired - but the drift control feel was good. I would like to have been able to test it, but certainly couldn't.

@@RoadsideRC Well for one the MST RMX 2.0 with GTR body can be bought at Amainhobbies for $285. C Comes with real oil filled shocks and not dummy friction shocks like you find on a Tyco Third the MST MGX Gyro is far better than that stock No Name gyro that comes in the Yokomo RTR MST comes with quality wheels and tires.. This RTR had such bad tires on it when you opened the box that you immediately discarded them because the injection molding site was so visible on all of them. MST comes with a superior quality Body that is high detail and painted. Also includes light buckets. The Yokomo RTR comes with a toy car looking body with stickers for the lights and windows… doesn’t even have real windows lol MST comes with a Brushless motor and an ESC that can handle a motor upgrade like the Reedy 3300 from a DR10 and run absolutely great and keep up with 10.5-13.5 turn motor cars. Honestly they aren’t even comparable.. The MST is better quality all around and can achieve high drift angles. The Yokomo will spin out if you try a high angle drift. Also your “RTR” in this video has $75 gyro upgrade and $120 Servo upgrade and it doesn’t look as good as most of the out of the box MSTs I’ve driven.

My experience with the MST and Yokomo. Honestly, the MST out of the box is an awesome car. Yeah it’s “not adjustable” (it kind of is though) but the setup really doesn’t need any adjustments. I just think by the time you upgrade the Yokomo to get to where the MST is that you’ll have way more money in it than just starting with the MST to begin with. Plus the other reasons that @Gravity Racer GT mentioned

That is why I was asking for your input, as I do truly wonder what others are thinking - especially if they have first-hand experience with it.
