The stock S-tronic transmission in this and the S6/7 will take upto about 580-600hp and be ok, but it's fairly borderline and not a power level I'd like to run without at least a tune on the gearbox. The S6/7 with a tune, exhaust and intake will put down about 580hp and the transmissions appear to hold up fine.

But going from 330 hp stock to something like 400 hp is gonna be perfect in my opinion if anyone wants to keep it for a while. To me pushing it to 600hp is just too much. Even 500ish is borderline crazy. Its too much to ask from a old car.

I own a 2013 S4 with a Stage 2 pulley and exhaust. It is exactly what it needs to be at that point. Feels faster than the Stage 2 335i I had before. It might be the instant boost or the incredible gearing of the DCT which together delivers a ton of torque. It is a great car. My one gripe is that the soft steering wheel scratches easily when you get in and out of the car and the Bang & Olufsen sound system is nothing compared to the Logic 7 units in BMWs.. just no bass. So far though it has been a lot of fun and gets 32mpg on the hwy when you want it to. Understeer is what it is but it makes up for it everywhere else.

Dual clutch is a bit overrated in my opinion. :-) A bit problematic during normal driving and city commute (but in action, it is super)... What I want to say is that a good working conventional one is also great and better reliability and long term usability is a big factor for a log term owner or used car buyer... Repairs of these super advanced AUDI or PDG gearboxes are super expensive. Great car this S5, would love to own it of course.

Once you get used to the car you'll know what gear you are in. Each gear is easily identifiable especially while ripping back a curvy road. If you want to floor it at speed and take off, you'll have to tune it. Stage 1 and Stage 2 single pulley from APR makes huge gains, but pulls in the top end and should get a transmission tune as well. Stage 2 dual pulley makes all kinds of low end power and can tackle other cars at speed, but if you have this tune with a transmission tune and a higher launch RPM it will slam you back into the seat very hard. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHrWf2mHjJilfLc kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2nZg2qIaqqNb6s

Modern cars with the ZF8 are very good but you haven't really driven any of those. Automatic transmissions have only recently made up the lost ground. Dual clutches are dying in a lot of cars. For instance, the new S5 has the ZF8.
@ms3er3967 жыл бұрын
The new ZF's are great but the main reason they moved is for smoothness in daily driving and costs to build. The downside is the Torque Converter still eats up power thus why the new S4/S5 are only 1/10th second better performance wise despite a big bump in HP and torque.

Its not unlimited potential but it has good potential no doubt. Past doing pulley upgrade,exhaust and tune what else is there for it? Its not like the b5 s4 that car def had alottt more potential than this altho no doubt way less reliable lol.

Marcus, love your channel bro but it makes me sad to have to say that I totally disagree with your choice of title for this review. "unlimited potential". Well, there ain't shit beyond a pulley/do/tune/maybe e85 or wm for the b8/b8.5 s4/s5's. Meaning once u go stage 2 with intake, exhaust, pulley and tune...you're stuck hp wise. I own a b5 as well as a b7 s4. B5 with upgraded turbos (basic stage 3 kit): 500+ awhp B7 with a supercharger kit: 500+ awhp. B8/b8.5? Ur fucked out of luck if u want more than just a stage 2 out of it. APR and a few companies came out with supercharger upgrades but they were fail. No company could figure out how to get an upgraded sc (or any substantial power beyond a stage 2) on it without weird overheating and various major issues/concerns. That's why I sold mine and why many euro tuners who want more than ~400 whp sell theirs. Even a mk3+ gen GTI has more power mod options and has plenty of stage 3 options. So, I sold my s5 and bought a mk7 golf r. A simple intake, dp and it already has more hp than a stage 2 s5 at a fraction of the weight (even a mk6 is more tunable). Anyways, my point is the title is just wrong. Vw's and Audi's are known to be insanely tunable cars with a huge aftermarket support for the modding crowd - but the b8 s4/s5 in specific is the rare case that doesn't apply. If you buy cars to mod for more power little by little or want a car with power potential should you want more down the road, the b8's are duds. If you're happy with stopping at stage 2 and happy with 400 whp +/-, well, you're one lucky sob because the b8 s5 is drop dead sexy and so affordable right now. B8's are a steal at this moment now that the b9's are out. Throw it on some coilovers, wheels, stage 2 mods and you have yourself a badass daily coupe that exudes euro sexiness and breaks necks even with a modest stance. It's aged so well (like e9x bimmers) and turns more heads than cars twice it's price and 7 years newer. Anyways, great review but the title is misleading and pretty much wrong.

Eüro Nasty exactly. I was cross shopping this car and Golf Rs. I picked up a 2017 R for the exact reasons you stated.

You've got a point as far as its not unlimited potential but it is a great tuning platform. The 3.0T is used in more than a few of audis line up, including the s4 which is what I have, and theres a huge aftermarket slection and communtity for this engines. Now there is a cap as far as how much you can realisticly get out of it but with a dual pulley tune, intake, exhaust, bigger throttle body, and upgraded cooling your getting up to 550hp range. The fastest I know of is APR's ultracharged s4 running a 10.9 quarter mile which isn't bad for a close to 4000lbs luxery sedan. Now the biggest limitation with these are cooling but just like any other platform its limitations are really just how much money your willing to throw at it.

Mr.White yeah I really like the 3.0T but the Golf R seems like a better tuning platform. Now if I could only get a better exhaust sound out of the thing...

Hey man thanks for the comment and we're glad you enjoy our content! The title of the video is just a title though, it doesn't actually specify "unlimited tuning potential." It just says "Unlimited potential." I'm sorry you think it's misleading or wrong! In all reality if the title was talking about unlimited tuning potential, then it would be misleading or wrong regardless of what car it was referring to. No car on the planet has unlimited tuning potential, they all have a ceiling.

Mr.White I have the epl dual pulley tune on my b8 s4 and it's alot of fun..prob around 420whp/410 tq. Only issue is I'm at stock manual and not sure how long that will last! Lol cooling is on my list as well but I recently upgraded the sway bars and endlinks
