This is the start of a multi video road test on the Keysight 34470A 7.5 Digit Truevolt DMM and the Texas Instruments DAC8734 Quad channel DAC Evaluation board
Keysight Link: - www.keysight.co...
Texas Instruments Link: - www.ti.com/tool...
This Road test is sponsored by Element 14, Keysight and Texas Instruments, thanks for selecting me
First up is the unveiling, and quick tour of the DMM, I test out the Ohms range using my Precision Vishay Bulk Film Resistance Standard
This is the first time I have had a meter even remotely accurate enough with precision to check the standards, and it does not disappoint, here is a link to the standard post: - www.element14.c...
I also use a precision Voltage Standard designed by and sent to me by Ian Scott Johnston to test out the basic voltage ranges: - / ianscottjohnston . Thanks Ian. Here is how he made it if you’re interested:-

Ian also has a bunch of other videos you may be interested in, so check them out while you’re there
OK, back to business, a quick look at the Meter is all I will do in part 1. I will review the DAC8734EVM module and other features of the DMM in the next few weeks including some more obscure features like measuring current and volts at the same time which it technically cannot do but with a little remote programming and utilizing the Reference / Dual measurement capability it can be made to work. Also on the agenda is looking at the logging features and the digitizing and advanced triggering features.
I won’t bore you with looking at the basic range checks and verifying the accuracy of the meter as I have nothing better than this meter so it would be more of a check of my other lab equipment. But I am sure you’re interested in seeing how it can be used for real world scenarios so if you have some ideas, add it to the comments
The BAT Signal…. If you’re curious see a previous post here: - www.element14.c...
I have already started reviewing the DAC8734 chip prior to the Road test on a breadboard using a Raspberry PI and windows 10, An Arduino UNO and a TI Launchpad… well a few actually, if you’re interested in that then you can also check out these posts. www.element14.c...

Nice review. Also important to note temperature while doing absolute measurements, like those resistance and voltage sources.

Looks like a nice DMM Peter but at this price range u wouldnt expect any thing else. Nice easy to read display and very clear layout of the controls looks really good so far looking forward to seeing you put it through its paces.

Thanks Peter. Nice DMM, but I just can't get over that name, Keysight.

Thank you so much for the review. I have one question for measurement using 34470A. Suppose we are measuring 5V DC and we want +- 100uV accuracy. What are the challenges we will face to measure that?

The biggest issue I would guess to deal with would be the elimination of external noise, the use of shielded probe leads, good grounds and keep noisy other lab equipment either off or far away. Also be aware of the impedance of the circuit your probing as with ohms law you are putting 10Meg Ohms in parallel with the test point, in most measurement scenarios this is not an issue but with this dynamic range, it can start to be significant.

Is your question how to setup acceptance and disqualification limits? Or you simply want to measure a random, 5 VDC signal down to the 100μV digit?

why does 7 1/2 mean 10,000,000 and not 50,000,000 count ?

The MSD (most significant digit) dictates counts. If it can only be a 1 or 0, then it's 10,000,000* counts with 7-1/2 digits. If the MSD can be a 5, then you get 50,000,000* counts with 7-1/2 digits. [* if DMM has "over ranging", you get a few more counts; usually 10% more]
