Hi ;) I'm wondering if you could possibly explain or make the video about the entrance exams? How do they look like? How students can prepare on them, etc. And also - is there any chance to finish uni earlier - for example in 2 years instead of 3? Thanks in advance.
@RoadtoFinnish4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ania and thanks for the questions. Could you be a bit more specific about the entrance exams. Which exams do you mean? There is no singular exam for Finnish universities and all of the schools that have some kind of exams have different ones. To your questions about finishing university early. Sure, you could definitely do it faster. Im not sure if its advisable because it is going to be extremely difficult and i dont see any real benefit in it except for the financial benefit if you have to pay tuition. Also do take into account that university in Finland takes in total 5 years. 3 for a bachelor's degree and 2 for master's.

Is it true that the HOAS apartments can really cost 300-400 Euros a month?? I visited their site and it lists a few around that price range but I am not convinced this is a monthly price. WOW I wish the US school system was as relaxed when it comes with what courses you take. I was very upset to find out that civic literacy was a specific course requirement but was only listed in small print on the bottom of the catalogue page. It was listed nowhere else except for one specific page. I ended up having to take it as a social science requirement and this set me back quite a bit because the Associate's degree program was incredibly structured.
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
😅 oh yes, many of the Hoas apartments are indeed 300-400€ per month. Sure, the rent can go all the way up to +1000€ but that would be the case only with really big apartments like 4-5 room flats that are super close to the centre. Student apartments in Finland are super, super affordable when compared to most countries around the world (especially when compared to the US). This is basically possible because of non-profits like Hoas which are able to push down the rents because they have no profit incentive. Sure, they have to get enough money to develop new locations but they have their entire existence is based on the need for affordable student housing. Fun fact, Hoas is actually owned by a number of student unions representing a large portion of university students in the Helsinki area. One more thing about the rents. Do note that you will have to sign a separate electric contract but the cost of electicity in Finland is also really cheap. If you live alone, i would budget a max of 30€ per month for electricity. The cool thing about Hoas and many other student housing providers is that water and internet is included in the rent. So depending on the location and the age of the building, living at Hoas will get you free get high speed internet 👍 To your second point, the Finnish university system is super relaxed. it is basically like night and day when compared to the system in the US. This is not only when it comes to the structure but also in terms of academic freedom. In Finland no one cares when and how you do your studies as long as you finish them in the allotted time. Also depending on the school, you will have a lot of freedom when it comes to planning your studies. If you are interested in doing a graduate degree, i really, really recommend that you consider Finland as an option. Do let me know if you have any further questions about these topics and id be happy to elaborate. One way for you to hear more about these topics is to join our weekly live stream on the youtube channel. I go live every thursday at 7:30 pm Eastern European Time.

@@RoadtoFinnish Thank you for this super detailed reply! I would love to study in Finland and then become a permanent resident eventually. However, I do have some concerns about my ability to keep up with the annual upfront costs after watching your video on how the student visa for non-EU citizens work. Do you know if remote work applies to a student visa? For example, if I made KZbin videos or worked on Fiverr as a freelance writer, how would the immigration office know if the work took 10 minutes or 60 hours? I'm sorry if this question is very odd. It seems like keeping track of exact hours worked is nearly impossible for anything other than an hourly position that is physically located in Finland and requires your presence.

Make a video about best universities in Finland and how to apply
@RoadtoFinnish4 жыл бұрын
Hey Masrur and thanks for the suggestion! I actually answered Divij's request in an other comment so i just copy pasted my answer here as well. So Ive actually been planning such a video for a long time but there is one big issue with this topic. Universities in Finland do not all offer the same fields because not all have the same faculties. This is why university rankings dont really tell you that much unless you go and look at the field specific rankings. As an example, the University of Helsinki is the highest ranking university in Finland (in global rankings). They do better in rankings compared to e.g. Aalto university. However, this is not true if you want to study engineering because the University of Helsinki does not have a faculty in engineering. On the other hand, Aalto university does have one and their faculty of engineering actually ranks highest in Finland. So im currently working on a national ranking of different fields and faculties but this takes a lot of time because the information on each school is super hard to come by :S So yeah, ill definitely do this video in the future, but im not able to get it out before 2021.

@RoadtoFinnish4 жыл бұрын
Hey man and thanks for the great question! Did you already notice that the University of Tampere also has a 100% scholarship that is awarded for the best applicants. Of course, to retain this you need to do at least 55 study credits per academic year. This is the best option for you if you dont have that much financial resources. In addition, you can also apply for a 50% tuition fee scholarship that can be granted once per academic year if you do well in your studies. Here are the requirements: _During studies, all fee-paying students are eligible to apply for Tampere University tuition fee scholarships covering 50% of tuition fees. The scholarship is awarded to a fee-paying student who completes at least 60 ECTS credits with a GPA of no less than 3/5 in an academic year. Scholarships are awarded after the first year of studies for one year at a time upon application._ Source: www.tuni.fi/en/study-with-us/how-to-apply/scholarships#expander-trigger--4669e354-8d9b-41d7-b079-df58a6316f26 In addition to these scholarships there are really no other options. Scholarships in Finland are awarded directly by the universities. While there are some third party scholarship options, these are super rare and they are often field specific. These pop up super randomly and they are awarded by different entities every now and then. However, because most of these are not annual, its impossible to give a list of scholarships that you could apply to. Thus, the university scholarships are your best bet.

Although i would disagree about the weather just slightly. The weather can at best be absolutely wonderful, but then again, november is pretty shitty all around Finland. @RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Hey vikash and thanks for the interesting question. So if you want to study a few courses alongside your studies, i really recommend that you check out the Open University courses. The Open University is a way for anyone to take courses in Finnish universities for a relatively small fee. These are basically the same courses that you would take as if you were a student. However, doing these courses as an open university student will not lead to a degree because you will not be enrolled as a full-time student at the university. However, this is a great way to learn new skills or strengthen your professional competence. In your case, i would look at the Open University courses from the Tampere University: www.tuni.fi/en/study-with-us/open-higher-education-studies/open-university I hope this helps!

If i want to become a Psychologist do I need to pay for Tuition Fee
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
I already answered this in another comment but here is a copy and paste of my answer: You will be required to pay tuition fees if you are applying to English taught bachelor's or master's degree as a non EU or non EEA (European Economic Area) citizen. There are no tuition fees for doctoral programmes. Having said this, it is my understanding that there are no English taught bachelors or masters degrees in psychology in Finland. All of the degrees in this field are currently being taught in Finnish and you need to be pretty much fluent in the Finnish language in order to apply for these programmes. Again, this is according to my understanding and this might change in the future as more programmes are offered in English.

Hi Oliver , thanks for a very informative videos .... I have a question that is a bit differant ... I know that I am eligeble for tuition free studies and I have full woking rights in Finland ... but my question is how do Finish students support themselfs finencialy it half way through their course they run out of money and they do not manage to find a job on time to pay for accomodation and food ??? ... example lets say I take with me 20,000 € that can last me for 18 months in Finland , but what happens once it runs out and I dont have a par time job ??? .. will the University just kick me out on the street or is there some kind of study grant or a governament student loan like HECS loan that we have here in Australia ??? ... any info would be largely appreciated ..... thanks
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Hey Wojciech and thanks so much for sharing your story and for the excellent question! You have a very interesting background and its great to hear that you might be interested in studying in Finland. So this is naturally a complicated topic and there are many variables impacting the exact circumstances. So i have to simplify this quite a bit. This is why i would actually recommend that you join our Discord server where im building a community of people interested in studying and working in Finland. The idea of the server is to allow me to answer peoples' questions in one place and with more comprehensive and thought-out answers. You can join the server using this link: discord.gg/W2guppc So having said that, lets break your question into a few parts. First, to your question about study grants and student loans. Finland does have a system for student grants and loans as you described but unfortunately those are only for Finnish citizens. There are some exceptions where international students might be eligible to apply for them but these are very, very rare. Having said this, the study grants and government guaranteed student loans are a big part of how local students finance their living costs in Finland. Most Finnish students use these but a large portion also go and work part-time on the side. Actually, the issue especially with the grants is that in order to withdraw them, you cant earn above a certain level per year. This way the grants are reserved only for those who a) need them and b) focus 100% on their studies to graduate faster. Anyways, this is mostly so that you know how the system works. Again, these are unfortunately only for Finnish citizens. Next, to elaborate a bit on what you said about your potential budget. I actually have an old video where i go through how much it actually costs to study in Finland as an international student and i do the math in excel with concrete examples. I recommend that you check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a37Im3eYrreVesU While i go deep into details in the video, the gist of it is that while the Finnish immigration service estimates that you need at minimum 560€ per month to pay for your living costs (rent, utilities, food, public transit etc...), my estimate is that you should have at minimum 800€ per month at hand. The reason for the big gap between these numbers is that with rent being the biggest part of your monthly budget, the cost of rent can fluctuate quite heavily depending on where you get offered an apartment. Regardless, student apartments in Finland are very affordable and i recommend that you check out my videos on this topic right here: kzbin.info/aero/PLz4mqtlQagDz99mkyqFtWfuhdYBS9lxD2 Anyways, assuming that you spend around 800€ per month (you can do well with much less but having this much disposable funds will allow you to live quite freely without having to pinch from everything), 20,000€ would actually last for 25 months so a bit over 2 years. All without having to work at all. Alright so all of what i said above assumes that you dont get a job - even for the summer holidays which last 3 months each year. However, i dont see any reason why you couldnt find a job for the summer each year. What kind of a job you could get would naturally depend on your background, prior work experience, the field that you are studying etc.. but even if we assume that you were to apply for basic service jobs at cafes, restaurants, grocery stores or something similar, you could still pocket at minimum 1500€ each month after taxes. Naturally, if you were to find a job in your own field, this amount would easily go up 50-100% depending on your prior experience. All of that money would naturally go towards your living costs for the next academic year. In addition, i would also like to point out that while finding a part-time job alongside your studies is not easy, not even for Finnish students, its definitely doable. Again, this depends on your field and prior experience and if you want to get a more realistic assessment i would need to know about the field that you are planning to study in and the potential jobs that you are interested to pursue. But yeah, while Finnish students do rely, at least to some extent, on the government study grants and loans, most students do look for a part-time job alongside their studies, or at least for the summers. I know that this doesnt answer every question that you might have so please let me know if you want me to elaborate more on a specific topic. Also, do consider joining the Discord server. Im sure that some of the international students that we already have there are able to share some of their experiences.

@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the interesting question. First i have to say that i do not know of any masters programme that would only last a year. The majority of master's level programmes are two years. Nevertheless, after graduating from a Finnish institution of higher education (a university or a university of applied sciences) you are able to apply for a residence permit for work. What kind of jobs and how easy it is for you to find work depends on a number of variables and its impossible to say anything certain without knowing quite a bit more about you, your background, prior work experience, education etc... so i cant comment on that. In terms of a permanent residency how this works is that after you graduate as master's, you have to work in Finland full-time for 4 years before you are allowed to apply for permanent residency. I hope this answered most of your question 👍

I want to apply for hotel management bachelor's degree with scholarship.. So can you tell me this degree have any worth in finland or another country ... And can I get part time job in this field ??
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Hey Hassan. I can only talk based on my experience and from what ive heard so please take this with a grain of salt. My understanding is that a degree in hotel management or hospitality in general can be very advantageous for you if travel, tourism and hotel business is what you want to do. For example, tourism is an important sector for the Finnish economy and having a degree in the field is very important if you want to work in many positions. So if this is the field you want to work in, my answer is a definite yes. About part time jobs, its impossible for me to say. Of course, the current covid situation has put the tourism industry in a bad spot and getting a part time job right now (as of january 2021) would be very hard. However, im sure that you could find something once things normalise. Do note that you have to start from the bottom like everyone else. Also, as i tell everyone else who ask me this question, you should not rely on a part time job as your source of funding for your stay in Finland. Part time jobs while studying will not pay enough for you to pay for your tuition fees.

I am 27. Can i come there to study for my masters. And if yes then which programs are best for masters.
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tushar. There are no age limits to studying in Finland. Yes you can study a master's degree in Finland as an international student. This is a super broad topic and i have a playlist of videos for those who are interested in studying in Finland. I recommend that you go through all of these videos to start with: kzbin.info/aero/PLz4mqtlQagDzO2SS52m1jTPpAKr9UtqSb Also, there are not programmes that are "best for masters". If your question is to which university and programme you should apply to, my answer would depend on: 1. What kind of a bachelor's degree do you have? 2. What field do you want to study in your master's (e.g. engineering) 3. What do you want to specialise in (e.g. mechanical engineering) 4. How much would you be able to pay for tuition (per year)

I have an Associate Degree from CS major and want to receive my bachelor degree by going school 2 more years. Is that possible ?
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mehmet and thanks for the question. This is a difficult question for me to answer because im not aware what a associate degree means in your country. To be eligible to apply for a bachelors degree in finland you need to have a foreign qualification that provides eligibility for higher education studies in your own country. There are also other application requirements but these are always school specific. About bachelor's degrees in Finland. If you want to do just a bachelor's and you have no interest in doing a master's, you need to apply for a degree taught in a university of applied sciences (i explain what it means in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2PGdYZmraahoc0). Bachelor's degrees taught at universities of applied sciences take from 3,5 years up to 4 years. So as a general rule of thumb, no, you cannot get a bachelor's degree in just 2 years.

@@RoadtoFinnish Associate Degree is a 2 year university degree. What I'm saying is I want to wave my credits from Associate Degree to any findland university and continue to take my bachelor degree in 2 years. That's how the system works in California
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
@@mehmetkoyuncuoglu1624 Right, i think i got it. I do apologise if i didnt, but please understand that the education system in the US is completely different and most often not even compatible with the Finnish system. So we might not even be speaking of the same thing. Anyhow, my understanding is that this is not possible and if it is, it is very rare. As a general rule of thumb, one cannot even easily transfer credits from one Finnish university to another (there are exceptions but this is the rule). If you want to study a bachelor's degree in a Finnish university, you have to pretty much apply as a new student and start from scratch. Again, there are exceptions but these are always processed case-by-case and it is impossible for me to say 100% whether this can be done. Did this answer your question or was i still talking about something else 😅. Do let me know. Im genuinely trying to answer your question but im not sure if i am.

Please can you tell me that in which base of universities gives us scholarship
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Hey Hassan and thanks for the question. In Finland, each university is in charge of their own scholarships. This means that each university sets up their requirements for their scholarships. The basic requirements are listed on each schools websites. However, what is important to understand is that universities in Finland are not required to publish the exact minimum requirements for scholarships. This means that there is no way to know for sure what the minimum requirements are for each year. Scholarships in Finland are granted on a competitive basis meaning that only the best applicants are granted scholarships. This also means that (because the level of applicants vary each year), the minimum requirements for getting a scholarship also vary year-over-year. In summary: its impossible to say what the minimum requirements for scholarships are. You can get an idea based on the admission requirements that each university publishes on their websites. However, these requirements are only for the admission, not for scholarships.

@@RoadtoFinnish million of love from my side for you ....❤❤❤❤ By the way I'm just getting your opinion Is it tough to get scholarship or not ??
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
No problem. About the scholarships, its really hard to say yes or no because it depends on the school, the degree that you are applying to, the level of competition each year and your personal skills. What i can say is that you need to really work for them.

Can some one work in finland just after bachelor's? And what is the entrace exam for bachelors in international business for aalto university
@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can work in Finland as an international student. However, there are limits to how much you can work depending on your nationality. I explain this in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnaUqXh-ltOLiJY There are no special 'entrance exams' for the bachelor's degree in international business at Aalto university. Rather, they use standardised tests so in order to apply you have to take the SAT's. More information can be found here: www.aalto.fi/en/study-options/bachelors-programme-in-international-business-mikkeli-campus Please note that if you are admitted to study a bachelor's degree at Aalto university, you are also automatically admitted to do a master's degree. In Finland when we get admitted to study at a university (different from a university of applied sciences aka a polytechnic), we are also expected to do our master's. If this confuses you and you dont know the difference between a university and a university of applied sciences, i have a video explaining those here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2PGdYZmraahoc0

@RoadtoFinnish3 жыл бұрын
@@anandhubabu7883 Im sorry but you have to be even more precise. There is no universal entrance exam for universities in Finland. The exact application requirements and whether or not you need to take some sort of a test depends on the school and programme that you want to apply to. For example, if you want to apply for a bachelor's in international business at Aalto university, you would need to take the SAT's. However, some other school might also require you to take a standardised language proficiency test like the IELTS or TOELF. Then again, some schools do not have any kinds of exams because they have other ways to rank the applicants. Again, whether or not you have to take any kind of tests depends on where you are applying to.

Also, im not sure what you mean by being a 3rd year student. In high school, at college..? Finally, what do you mean with transferring? There are no transfer options to study in Finland. Yes, there is a lot of demand for people with a master's degree in finance. However, this is also a highly competitive field so you need to do really well in your studies if you want to get those really, really goods and high paying jobs. Btw, in Finland we dont do MBA's. In Finland an MBA is a supplementary degree that is mostly done by experienced career professionals who already have years of work experience but want to do a higher degree to supplement their expertise in management and in business. If you want to do a graduate level degree in business, you should look for Master's degrees.
