Set your valve clearance with a dial gauge on the top of the rocker arm, not ideal but will get you out of trouble

A little trick I done to the rocker cover just to make it look abit tidier is the tabs that hold the hoses I got some wide heat shrink and put over them as my paint cracked folding them in and out 👌🏼

Good way to polish them would be shoelaces should work thats how i polish my spokes for my dirt bike

Can use a dial indicator instead of a feeler gauge and it'll take into account the recess in the rocker. Bit harder to set up, but give you better results

Keen to see the turbo setup, only thing is with the black paint makes it harder to locate leaks and stuff, great video loving the build 😊

Well Tom, that's about the shodiest thing I've ever seen you do, you normally take so much pride in getting it smick, "just paint it all black, alternator and all". Can't see that exhaust manifold paint lasting past the first hill climb, yes these things get hot as you pointed out. When you stop it'll have smoke pouring out the 76 bonnet scoop. I had a poorly fitted dump pipe, kept snapping secondary mounting points on block bolt, so arranged to take it back to refit system again. Whilst they resolve the issue, they elected to repaint the whole system again, just to impress us. We head off, stopped for coffee, you'd swear the GU's on fire, smoke pouring out of guard, bonnet scoop, initially shit ourselves, then laughed it off as it looked so funny. Looking forward to seeing it done mate, I actually like ya work.

those rocker cover bolts and washers will leak. i have done the same and you need some rubber washers from bunnings on both the bottom of the washer and inbetween the washer and the bolt. :DDD

Exhaust mani paint wont stay like that bro, it will be rusty cast in no time after a few heat cycles and some condensation, ceramic coat is the go for the next best thing with added benefit.

I find it interesting that you are going to turbocharge an engine that has already covered over an impressive 400k km's with rebuild, and that was not originally designed to be used with turbocharging. Turbocharging adds a great deal of stress (heat, load). I know it is pretty common to modify old TD42's with turbocharging, but I cannot help thinking this is where a lot of the overheating issues originate. When a manufacturer designs an engine from scratch, they will know whether it will be turbocharged or not. So many factors are considered from a total system viewpoint, piston design, combustion design, bearing journal load (all base engine design), combustion temperatures, exhaust temperatures, fuelling quantity, injection timing, cooling packs, the list is endless. It says a lot about the robustness of the TD42 base engine design that it can be done successfully without serious internal engine modifications. I think the cooling system if often overlooked.
